Bug#697766: poppler feeds invalid UTF-8 to cairo

2013-01-09 Thread Eric Marsden

Package: libpoppler28
Version: 0.20.5-1

When attempting to print certain PDF files generated by luatex, evince
fails with multiple errors

BAD status: input string not valid UTF-8
Internal Error: cairo context error: input string not valid UTF-8

This is a known bug in poppler

   https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=53925

It would be great to have poppler 0.22 available in Debian.

Thanks, added a reference to it to this bug.

It would be great to have poppler 0.22 available in Debian.

This won't happen before (in order):
a) Wheezy is released
b) all the packages in Debian using the private libpoppler are fixed to
compile with 0.20 (currently in experimental)
c) there is a transition to introduce poppler 0.20 in unstable
d) poppler 0.20 migrates to testing
(possibly 0.22 or whatever is the latest stable serie will be pushed to
experimental right after c) is done)

It takes already some time to have packages compiling (and possibly
working) with a new version of the private libpoppler, and with 0.22
there will be few more failures with it.
