Version: 1.8.1.2-2

DOT_NUM_THREADS = 0 means autodetect. On bare metal it does make sense
to use more threads than cores, in the assumption than disk will be the
bottleneck.

This can be counterproductive on VMs, I agree.

I suggest you try to force it with DOT_NUM_THREADS = 1; I tried here and
it seems there is only one dot process at a time.

Indeed that's what I'm actually using. I think this bug can be set to severity 
wishlist and be retitled to Please explain that 0 will use n+1 processors.
