Because of this network error during installation, the desktop environment was not installed. And without network connection, you still cannot install it afterwards now. If you log in as root: what's the output of "ifconfig" ? In the output of "lspci", is there a network card listed? I did so, it asks me to select one of two versions, I choose the first. Then it loads, and says: Debian GNU/linux 7.0 Genuine tty1 Genuine login: entered user Password: entered password Then it says a bunch of stuff and Genuine@Genuine:~$ I don't get what I did wrong?:c
