After upgrading to 3.9, I can't reliably set the backlight on my Dell XPS13 anymore. using i915.backlight=vendor doesn't work either. Using the patch listed at https://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=97751, bug https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47941 comment 83, turns things back into a workable state. Please consider applying.
