I looked at this and I do not see anywhere in the insserv code where
this message could be generated. However, it does appear to match line
415-416 of the update-rc.d script. I think this message would have to be
changed there.

Jesse, as sysvinit/insserv maintainer, should those warning messages in
https://salsa.debian.org/debian/init-system-helpers/-/blob/master/script/update-rc.d#L425
be dropped?

If so, please submit a patch or a MR.

Regards,
Michael

Jesse, could you please take a look at this. This message is generated
by insserv. Probably we could use more gentle tone, like

'info: default start runlevel arguments (2 3 4 5) differs from default
(S). Proceeding as requested'.

Bug#713905: mention that there is nothing wrong with one's system upon warning

2013-06-23 Thread jidanni
Package: sysv-rc
Version: 2.88dsf-41+jessie1
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/sbin/update-rc.d

This

update-rc.d: warning: default start runlevel arguments (2 3 4 5) do not match
alsa-utils Default-Start values (S)

Should instead be

update-rc.d: warning: system-wide Default-Start runlevel arguments
(2 3 4 5) do not match alsa-utils Default-Start values (S).

And also add a line saying that there is nothing that the user has done
wrong and needs to be cleaned up. It's just that the package contains
special Default-Start values.

Also mention which ones are now being used.
"Using the latter anyway."
