Bug#730437: network-manager: fails to start

2014-03-29 Thread Gianluigi Tiesi

Hi, the crash happens if an unmanaged network interface is active in
/run/network/ifstate other than lo
As a temp workaround disable auto in etho or if not possible remove eth0=eth0
from that
file after the interface is up

 Could you please try to remove the symlink you have created and install

 Hi Laurent,

 I'm sorry, the machine where I encountered that problem is now running
 in an environment where I can't mess with network-manager :(

So, the NetworkManager-dispatcher issue has been solved by bigon's
upload. The /run/network/ifstate related crash I cannot reproduce.
I tested with unmanaged devices, manually removing /run/network/ifstate
and this all was handled properly. Thus I'm downgrading the severity and
marking the bug accordingly.

Lucas, did you enable connectivity check support in your
NetworkManager.conf?
If you still have the /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf from the
system where the crash occurs, could you please attach it?

Thanks,
Michael

 So - no, i can't.
 Also, i am not the original poster, just decided to report here,
 since NM crashes for me exactly the same way the OP described it, and
 unlike OP i know how to use gdb. I am, however, somewhat reluctant to
 install stuff via anything other than dpkg/apt.

Well it's a matter of removing the symlink and
adding /lib/systemd/system/NetworkManager-dispatcher.service with the
following content:

[Unit] Description=Network Manager Script Dispatcher Service

[Service]
Type=dbus
BusName=org.freedesktop.nm_dispatcher
ExecStart=/usr/lib/NetworkManager/nm-dispatcher.action

[Install]
Alias=dbus-org.freedesktop.nm-dispatcher.service

You might need to run systemctl enable NetworkManager afterwards.

This file will be shipped in the next upload, just to confirm it's
working for you

Cheers

Laurent Bigonville

Bug#730437: network-manager: fails to start

2013-11-28 Thread LRN
The problem is in nm_manager_new().

It calls:
singleton = (NMManager *) g_object_new (NM_TYPE_MANAGER, NULL);
to create the nmm object, which results in a call to nm_manager_init()
down the chain, which eventually leads to a nm_manager_update_state()
call, which calls:
nm_connectivity_set_online (priv-connectivity, new_state =
NM_STATE_CONNECTED_LOCAL);
However, priv-connectivity is initialized only back in
nm_manager_new() AFTER it creates the nmm object.

Possible solution:
somehow move this line:
priv-connectivity = nm_connectivity_new (connectivity_uri,
connectivity_interval, connectivity_response);
into nm_manager_init() or one of its subroutines

Bug#730437: network-manager: fails to start

2013-11-24 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: network-manager
Version: 0.9.8.8-1
Severity: serious
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

I'm running a small armel system with systemd and network-manager from
experimental (I would like to use the newer modemmanager in experimental).

Problem 1: network-manager fails to start:

Nov 25 02:36:19 gesse dbus-daemon[564]: dbus[564]: [system] Activating via
systemd: service name='org.freedesktop.NetworkManager'

directory. See system logs and 'systemctl status
dbus-org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.service' for details.

dbus-org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.service failed to load: No such file or
directory. See system logs and 'systemctl status
dbus-org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.service' for details.

Indeed, there's no dbus-org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.service file in my
system. After adding one to /etc/systemd/system, symlinked to
/lib/systemd/system/NetworkManager.service, dbus correctly tries to start
network-manager, which leads to ...

Problem 2: network-manager segfaults on startup
