I've told Andrew last week about this.

According to #736392, plplot FTBFS in unstable for other reasons.

This can be fixed by removing the bits that check for hdf5.h in
cmake/modules/octave.cmake (see attached patch) and adding the right
 flags to CPPFLAGS in debian/rules:
 CPPFLAGS = $(shell dpkg-buildflags --get CPPFLAGS) \
$(shell mkoctfile -p INCFLAGS)
Of course, there must be a less brutal solution.

Looks like you failed to attach that patch (something I know from
experience is all too easy to do).

I'm also considering uploading myself, but unless Andrew fixes this
FTBFS, this will have to be half sponsoring, half NMUing.

It'd be really great to get an upload soon, so there's time before the
freeze to shake out any new issues - if Andrew's actively on the case,
that's great, but if he's currently too busy, an NMU is clearly
justified by the 5 RC bugs (+1 if the hdf5 FTBFS were filed) it would
fix. Any comments from Andrew on the hdf5 fix would certainly be
appreciated though.

I'm happy to sponsor or NMU if nobody more connected to the package is
able to.

Cheers,
Olly

Andrew, if you wish I can send you my changes so that you can review
them. I will then be happy to sponsor your upload.

I think this would really be a good idea to put plplot in team
maintenance. You are doing a great job with this complex package, but it
would have been uploaded weeks ago if it had been officially maintained
within the science team for, for instance. You would still be the main
uploader for the package, but that would unable people to more easily
give you a hand rather a hint when it comes to fixing fairly simple RC bugs.

Kind regards, Thibaut.

It's been more than 3 weeks now - what's the status of the upload?

Looking at the package on mentors, the minified JS source seems to be
the only major issue. But as the current package in unstable also has
that issue, and this upload will close 5 RC bugs, 2 important bugs,
and a request for a new upstream version, I'm inclined to think we
shouldn't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. The package that
is waiting on mentors looks like a vast improvement over what's in the
 archive currently.

I'd really like to see the last few wxwidgets3.0 transition bugs dealt
with, and ideally not by removing packages (unless that's what the
maintainer prefers). And plplot is also holding up gnudatalanguage
there - that's 2 of the 7 remaining packages which I'm hoping to see
 transitioned.

I'd prefer an upload sponsored by someone who's actively sponsoring
plplot uploads, but the freeze is less than 2 months away now, so I'm
starting to consider just sponsoring it myself.

Hi,

Hi Andrew,

I'd rather sponsor a package you would have prepared, but failing that I
will try to make a non-maintainer upload next week.

Please feel free to get back to me if I shouldn't, or if you prepare the
upload.

Kind regards, Thibaut.

How did you fail that?

I reviewed his package at https://mentors.debian.net/package/plplot
and IIRC the only main issues left were the upstream inclusion of
prebuilt javascript files (jquery et al). There are multiple ways to
mitigate this. At least the jquery issue is seen very differently
under Debian developers.

I'm though likely not able to sponsor the (fixed or workarounded)
package the next few days as I'm currently travelling. So feel free to
sponsor it, if you have time. I'd be happy about it. I can forward you
my findings this evening, if preferred.

I'd take care of the next GDL upload then in a few days.

I reviewed his package at https://mentors.debian.net/package/plplot

Thanks for pointing this out.

I missed it because
 - plplot does not appear on the front-page of mentors,
 - there is no bug againsts the sponsorship-request pseudo package,
 - and no mention of this upload in this bug report (740085).

I figured that was enough places to look for an information that should
have been directed to me directly, who explicitly offered help and asked
whether there was a plan.

By the way,

I have tried building 5.10.0 using the debian directory in the upstream
svn repository. It is not straight-forward. For instance, the patches
need to be updated.

In addition, if I was reviewing this package from this first quick look,
I would request that you merge the unreleased changelog entries, version
the swig build-dependency, update the Policy field, and update the
changelog (with appropriate Closes: directives).

Kind regards, Thibaut.

Bug#740085: package plplot 5.10.0

2014-02-28 Thread Andrew Ross
The debian directory in the upstream svn repository has been updated (by
me) to work with 5.10.0. This includes a number of other fixes I'd been
working on which haven't yet made it into the official Debian packages.
With my latest set of patches to the octave examples are scripts 5.9.10
now builds + passes all the tests with 5.9.10 BUT it does require swig
2.0.12 which is not yet available in sid.

If you copy this debian directory to a stock 5.10.0 tree it should build
once swig becomes available. There is an open bug against swig for this.

Note: I am the package maintainer, but not a DD so I'd appreciate any
help with get the packages uploaded once swig is available.

Thanks

Andrew
