FYI for anyone else who might be reading this, Openswan is no longer
being maintained:

Since the Openswan package is not maintained anymore in the Debian
distribution and is not available in testing and unstable suites, **it
is recommended for IKE/IPsec users to switch to a supported
implementation like strongSwan**.

This is great advice. The transition to strongSwan was relatively
seamless, and strongSwan works perfectly with OS X and iOS clients.

I ran into this bug as well. Downgrading via `apt-get install
openswan=1:2.6.37-3` worked, as did the deb posted above. Hopefully the
patch can be committed soon.
