A patch was proposed upstream [1] and I've confirmed it fixes the
problem for me. I'm tempted to raise the severity to grave, and to
upload with that patch applied. Thoughts?

FTR, I've attached a backtrace to the upstream bug report
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=728157).

This bug actually seems to be severity == grave, as it makes
notification-daemon completely unusable or mostly so.

Would the maintainers object if I raise the severity this way?

I'm asking first, as perhaps I'm missing something, e.g. notify-send
