Bug#748249: gnome-shell: Unable to shutdown

2014-05-22 Thread Alle
I've installed systemd-sysv, but the system removed sysvinit-core and
now the shutdown from the desktop works as normal user.
Will it be included in future updates?
Thanks to all

Bug#748249: gnome-shell: Unable to shutdown

2014-05-22 Thread Laurent Bigonville
Hello,

So some clarifications.

IMVHO Massimo's initial bug report is related to the fact that lightdm
is not registering a logind session for the user. This is causing
policykit to deny the shutdown action.

gdm3 had a somehow similar bug that was caused by a race condition with
the activation of logind when not using systemd as PID1. This bug is
now fixed in unstable and experimental by forcing the activation of
logind [1], note that this is only working for systemd 204,
systemd-shim will have to deal with that for 204+

Back to lightdm, the fact that there is no logind session registered
/might/ also be caused by the same issue but I don't know enough
lightdm and did't tried to troubleshoot this.

Cheers,

Laurent Bigonville

Massimo could you try again on your machine with gdm (please verify
that you have gdm3 3.8.4-9 installed on your machine and booted with
that version) and tell us if you still have the same issue?

Thanks

No sorry, I still have the version 3.8.4-6 provided by jessie's
repository, but ff you can point me to the 3.8.4-9 package download I
can try to update.

You can either add unstable/sid in the /etc/apt/sources.list or you can

I'm no longer able to start up my openvpn client...
So I'll sort these out as well or open a bug report, if I can't ;-)

Then can someone reassign this to the proper package and not lightdm?

I think it's not a bug of lightdm: I have the same problem on another
Debian testing and lightdm is not installed.

This is what you have when you are logged in, correct?

Yes, and in the PC in which I have only gdm the output is:

   SESSIONUID USER SEAT

1 sessions listed.

Could you try to install libpam-systemd?

libpam-systemd is already installed

IMHO, the bug should be reassign against lightdm

I have the same problem in a PC without lightdm. I don't know if it
could help

If I try to close the session with the Gnome's top right menu it
works, but if I try to shutdown first with the Gnome's menu, agree to
the bug the PC doesn't shutdown, but even the close session stops to
work.

Best regards and thanks for your interesting.
