Furthermore, if i've selected something in the past,
(e.g. "/usr/bin/emacs23") which is no longer available, then it spews
that error and falls back to nano, if nano is present.

If the thing stored in ~/.selected_editor is missing or unavailable, it
should revert to the "Select an editor." interstitial, rather than
falling back to nano.

Bug#753670: sensible-utils: Error spew when $SELECTED_EDITOR is unavailable

2014-07-04 Thread Matthias Urlichs
Package: sensible-utils
Version: 0.0.9
Severity: normal

$ /usr/bin/sensible-editor /tmp/fubar
/usr/bin/sensible-editor: 25: /usr/bin/sensible-editor: /usr/bin/vim.basic: not
found
/usr/bin/sensible-editor: 28: /usr/bin/sensible-editor: nano: not found
/usr/bin/sensible-editor: 31: /usr/bin/sensible-editor: nano-tiny: not found
[ proceeds to edit /tmp/fubar as normal ]

Two problems here:
* Please respect my decision not to have nano installed and don't complain
  about that

* Please tell the user that $SELECTED_EDITOR is responsible for the
vim.basic problem and that they can fix it by re-running `select-editor`.
