Bug#767239: Regression: T420 docking station headphone plug not working automatically

2014-11-03 Thread Franz Schrober
Hi,

the Docking Station seems to be following:
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_Advanced_Mini_Dock

And the mentioned patch is the wrong one. I've tested it more and noticed that
it also happens in 3.15 (before the patch was applied) - but not with 3.14.
I've removed pulseaudio to better check the problematic. The used tool is
called 'alsactl monitor'

Plugging the Laptop headphone jack on/off with 3.16 prints following:

card 0, #14 (0,0,0,Headphone Jack,0) VALUE

card 0, #14 (0,0,0,Headphone Jack,0) VALUE

Doing the same thing with 3.14 prints nothing.

Also plugging in the Docking headphone jack on/off with 3.14 + 3.16 prints
nothing. Not sure what is the correct behavior but at least both jacks should
either both generate some events or no events at all

No idea how to debug that further... but willing when somebody gives me some
hints what to try next

Bug#767239: [linux] Regression: T420 docking station headphone plug not working automatically

2014-10-29 Thread Franz Schrober
Package: linux
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-CC: ti...@suse.de, joschi.brauc...@tum.de

The docking station headphone plug stopped working after upgrading to 3.16. The
problem matches the description for T440 which can be found here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1101386

But in my case it stopped working after the patch
https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/tiwai/sound.git/commit/sound/pci/hda/patch_realtek.c?id=1c37c22332a2d2c1b4ab32177a4f847c7fe06e38
 was applied

expected:

 * headphones/speakers get plugged in
 * sound on the speaker is reduced and the headphones output is activated
(pulseaudio magic?)

what happens:

 * headphones/speakers get plugged in
 * no mixer changes
 * I cannot hear anything anymore

Interestingly, it works fine when using the headphone plug on the laptop
instead of the docking station. But in my setup I cannot use the laptop plug
because the speakers are all the time connected to the docking station.
