Bug#768030: [htsengine] Different hts_engine versions are not compatible

2014-11-04 Thread Giulio Paci
Package: htsengine
Version: 1.08-1
Severity: wishlist

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Hi,
I noticed that the package htsengine is designed to provide the latest
version of the htsengine.

Unfortunately:
1) neither the hts_engine nor the libHTSEngine API are stable (i.e.:
they changes with every version);
2) there are TTS systems that supports more than one of these versions
(and it would be nice to package one of those systems, sooner or later);
3) I need more than one libHTSEngine API installed in my work pipeline.

Is it possible to have different packages for different htsengine
versions? (I personally need hts_engine 1.05 and later)
Is it possible to have this packages installed simultaneously? I think
this would be a great improvement.

By the way, is the soname of the libhtsengine library updated with every
API change in that library? (i.e.: with every version of the htsengine?)
If not this should be fixed.

Bests,
Giulio.
