I just applied the patch from upstream. This makes matters much worse, all tests are immediately failing:

torsten@2c4e58b051c5:~/swig/swig3.0/builddir$ make check-python-test-suite
checking python test-suite
checking python testcase argcargvtest (with run test)
/home/torsten/swig/swig3.0/Lib/swig.swg:425: Error: Syntax error in input(1).
../../../Examples/Makefile:337: recipe for target 'python_cpp' failed
make[2]: *** [python_cpp] Error 1
Makefile:111: recipe for target 'argcargvtest.cpptest' failed
make[1]: *** [argcargvtest.cpptest] Error 2
checking python testcase callback (with run test)
/home/torsten/swig/swig3.0/Lib/swig.swg:425: Error: Syntax error in input(1).
../../../Examples/Makefile:337: recipe for target 'python_cpp' failed
make[2]: *** [python_cpp] Error 1
Makefile:111: recipe for target 'callback.cpptest' failed
make[1]: *** [callback.cpptest] Error 2

Seems like the patch has some dependency on another change. As the patch is not quite obvious to me, I don't think I can fix this today.

Greetings, Torsten
