Bug#769718: tp-smapi-dkms: tp-smapi.ko does not load

2015-03-30 Thread alberto maurizi

Good news (bad for my self-respect): it was my fault as I forgot to add
options thinkpad_ec force_io=1 in /etc/modprobe.d

Now thinkpad_ec loads (with warning) and so tp_smapi does.

Please, accept my apologies.

 Hi Evgeni,

I realized only now that my bugreport got a reply from you (I haven't
received any email from the bug tracking system: probably a misconfiguration
 from my part).

Well, you are right, I used to add tp_smapi to my /etc/modules, however this
does not work: if I put tp_smapi in /etc/modules I get an error during boot.
I'm sorry I cannot find the boot log anywhere (even if I installed bootlogd,
 the /var/log/boot is empty).

In any case, the process through the /etc/modules should be equivalent to
issuing as root modprobe tp_smapi but I get the following:
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'tp_smapi': No such device or address

The same if I try with thinkpad_ec that, I remember, I also used before
 reinstalling everything.

And hdaps behaves exactly the same.

I got nothing strange during the package install process (see attached
 file).

I'm available for any test you may want me to run.

My original reply was sent out to albe...@krsna.bo.isac.cnr.it, but I
think the mail bounced back then (and I thought well, he will find the
answer if it is important ;))

Well, you are right, I used to add tp_smapi to my /etc/modules, however this

What hardware is this? Can you post the output of dmidecode, stripping
all serial numbers?

I can't remember that tp-smapi ever was autoloaded on any hardware I
had/have. Are you sure you old install did not have it in /etc/modules
or similar?

Or did you maybe have hdapsd installed, which loaded hdaps.ko from
tp-smapi itself?

2014-11-15 Thread alberto maurizi
Package: tp-smapi-dkms
Version: 0.41-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I've had a tp_smapi module working for years on a debian/sid.
Recently I had to reinstall the whole system (hard disk crash).
After reinstalling, I noticed that tp-smapi-dkms does not load automatically
modules (as befeore).

Built modules are found in /lib/modules/3.16.0-4-amd64/updates/dkms/

But I found no way to insert them.
