Hi Lukas, I've retested on my current installation, same hardware but upgraded to Debian Stretch with the 4.9 kernel. The kernel panic no longer occurs. I do not have any machines running the 3.16 version anymore to verify if it still occurs on that. Regards, Gary

Control: tags -1 + moreinfo Hi Gary, you reported this bug regarding nmap induced kernel panics a few years ago: https://bugs.debian.org/772731 Do you still experience this bug? If so, can you provide any information regarding the kernel panic (e.g. picture of the backtrace printed by the kernel) so we can investigate? Thanks Lukas
Bug#772731: nmap -O causes occasional kernel panic
Package: nmap Version: 6.47-3 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, Running nmap -O as root on a local ip address will occasionally cause a kernel panic within a few seconds of starting. Another user in #debian-next has also experienced this. I wasn't sure if this should be filed against nmap or the linux kernel package. If you need any further information please let me know. I wasn't sure if this should be filed against nmap or the linux kernel package. If you need any further information please let me know. Looks to me like a kernel issue. Any information the kernel manages to output when it crashes would certainly be helpful.
