Bug#781368: No trayicon under GNOME Shell

2015-06-09 Thread Franco Bersani

Hi to all,
I'm using owncloud (version 1.8.1, the package available on ufficial
debian repos) under Gnome Shell on Debian testing.

I've noticed that the owncloud tray icon appears correctly if you start
Gnome Shell with "wayland" session.

Hope this will help

Franco

FWIW I'm building a new version of qtbase which should fix the bug. Will
probably hit experimental today.

Right! And it seems that's the same bug as #775398 which is already part of
the upcoming Qt 5.4.2.

I'll see if I can upload 5.4.1 with this patch backported soon, but 5.4.2 is
not too far away (it will possibly get released by the end of next week).

Thanks for the hacking! Lisandro.

transmission-qt shows exactly the same problem. I've attached a
screenshot so you have an idea how this looks like.

The arrow points at the transmission-qt tray icon (where it is supposed
to be). If I hover over it, gnome shell with highlight it, so I know
there is something running in the tray. I can actually right click it
and get a context menu.

FWIW I tried both owncloud-client and transmission-qt on KDE, Fluxbox and
awesome without any issues. And I am using Qt 5.3.2.

That's interesting. OK, so let's try to rule out if it's really a Qt5 problem
or not.

Michael: is there any chance for you to install transmission-qt? I f you can
please open it and then go to Edit → Preferences, Desktop tab. Once in there
mark "Show transmission icon in the notification area". The icon should appear
right away.

If you can reproduce the behavior there I'll do a simple test app to reproduce
the problem and file a bug upstream.

I'll try to reproduce this on fluxbox.

Nope, doesn't help. See [1]. I had owncloud-client built against Qt
5.4.1 and installed the Qt 5.4.1 libraries. The result was the same as
before: no systray icon under GNOME Shell.

And here's the answer:

In a nutshell the bug is in Qt < 5.4. Qt 5.4 is already available in
experimental. We are waiting to push it to unstable for the next point release
which will probably happen by the end of next week. After that it's just a
matter of packaging it and asking the RT for a transition slot.

Kinds regards, Lisandro.

Quick reply from phone:

- we are removing qt4's webkit, so far we don't know about the whole qt4.
- gnome shell and kf5 have switched to the sni protocol wich is not
supported in qt4, see #712938. The best solution is to port the app to qt5

Bug#781368: [Pkg-owncloud-maintainers] Bug#781368: No trayicon under GNOME Shell

2015-05-12 Thread Sandro Knauß
Hi,

let's sum this all up. It is known, that this bug occurs because we switched
from Qt4->Qt5 build has problem with trayicons. But for strech staying on Qt4
is no solution anymore, because Qt4 will be removed.

TFor others to follow here the list of versions and what Qt version was used
to build:

< 1.6.0~beta1+dfsg-1 (Qt4)
> 1.6.0~beta1+dfsg-1 (Qt5)

except these three versions that are built because of #755350:

1.7.0~beta1+really1.6.3+dfsg-3 (Qt4 upstream version 1.6.3)
1.7.0~beta1+really1.6.3+dfsg-4 (Qt4 upstream version 1.6.3)
1.7.0~beta1+really1.6.4+dfsg-1 (Qt4 upstream version 1.6.4)

Maybe we should reassign this bug to Qt.

FIW, I'm on XFCE on testing, and the icon is more or less visible wit
1.7.0~beta1+really1.6.4+dfsg-1 although it doesn't resize to the height
of the menu, so is rendered with 2 sides painted black.

Maybe there's a regression with later versions.

My 2 cents,

Bug#781368: No trayicon under GNOME Shell

2015-03-28 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: owncloud-client
Version: 1.8.0+dfsg-1
Severity: normal

I'm using owncloud under GNOME Shell 3.14.

There is no visible tray icon for owncloud though. I think it's related
to the switch to Qt5. I vaguely remember it working with older versions
which were compiled against Qt4.

So this might be a Qt5 issue after all. E.g. I found [1]

I don't have another Qt5 app with a tray icon to test, so I'm filing
this agains owncloud-client for now.
