I have tested with systemd versions down to 215-8. All with the same result: saned over network isn't running. I reassign this bug now to sane-backends. Thanks for your work. Which version exactly did work and at which version did it start failing? I'm not aware of any related changes in systemd which would have an effect on this, but with the exact versions, it's easier to pinpoint. If you don't remember anymore, you can get older versions from the snapshot archive [1]. I think that this bug comes from systemd. At irc #debian-systemd I found on answer since two days. I will let the systemd maintainer answer. But, for me, the problematic files I needed to modify, whereas systemd configuration files, are provided by sane-utils : $ dpkg -S sane | grep -E 'service|socket' sane-utils: /lib/systemd/system/saned@.service sane-utils: /lib/systemd/system/saned.socket $ Do you want to say that the bug must be fixed elsewhere ? Bug#782971: sane-utils: saned systemd config does not allow remote scanner access
Package: sane-utils Version: 1.0.24-8 Severity: important Tags: patch Hi, After an upgrade to jessie, I've been enable to access my scanner through network. Of course, I correctly enabled and started the saned.socket systemd unit. Any access try (with xsane on remote machine or even with telnet saned-server 6566) leads to the following syslog lines: Apr 19 23:20:40 kooot saned[32317]: saned (AF-indep+IPv6) from sane-backends 1.0.24 starting up Apr 19 23:20:40 kooot saned[32317]: check_host: access by remote host: localhost Apr 19 23:20:40 kooot saned[32317]: init: access by host localhost denied Apr 19 23:20:40 kooot saned[32317]: saned exiting After reading various things on Internet, I succeed in finding the configuration error in the saned manpage itself: SYSTEMD CONFIGURATION [...] StandardInput=null [...] and not StandardInput=socket as currently shipped in /lib/systemd/system/saned\@.service I put the line from the manpage into the saned\@.service unit file, called systemctl daemon-reload and now all is working perfectly. Here is a extract of my current logs: Apr 19 23:21:07 kooot saned[32344]: saned (AF-indep+IPv6+systemd) from sane-backends 1.0.24 starting up Apr 19 23:21:07 kooot saned[32344]: check_host: access by remote host: :::10.77.0.3 Apr 19 23:21:07 kooot saned[32344]: init: access granted to vdanjean@:::10.77.0.3 Apr 19 23:21:17 kooot saned[32344]: saned exiting And xsane allows me to scan my page... PS: upgrading sane-utils to 1.0.24-9 does not change anything (same problem, same solution) PPS: a fix in jessie as soon as possible seems appropriate to me.
