However in Jessie, there is currently no possibility to decode H.264
videos from qt, since gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg is required for that. Do you
have an idea how we could fix this?

Backporting Qt once Qt 5.5.x makes it to testing. There is no other way around
for that.

Qt 5.5 is the first version that adds support for GStreamer 1.x. If
  you
use that version, it should be able to use gstreamer1.0-libav for
  h264
decoding. If that doesn't work, you're probably running into a bug
somewhere in Qt as it seems to work fine for all other GStreamer
  1.x
apps that we currently have :)

Ah ok. I thought that gstreamer1.0-libav was somehow a direct
 replacement for gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg.

It is the successor of gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg, yes. Same code really. But
you need to use GStreamer 1.x to be able to use it, which Qt before 5.5
didn't.

I will check that with Qt5.5

Get rid of Qt 5.4 :) gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg is not going to come back,
actually all of GStreamer 0.10 is going to disappear soon hopefully.

qstreamer0.10-ffmpeg is no longer available in jessie or sid. One has to
import oldstable into sources.list and set appropriate pinnings to allow
 installing this package.

I think this is related to the mentioned request to use gstreamer1.0. I
noticed there is a gstreamer1.0-libav package, but it does not allow for
 h.264 playback in Qt.
