Bug#807616: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#807616: lightdm: Lightdm (and KDM) does not autologin on desktop computers

2016-04-07 Thread oldtechaa
I believe this bug may have come about due to operator error. I may have
been uncommenting the lines
# autologin-user = User ..
# autologin-user-timeout = ..

Due to the fact that these lines are not after the [SeatDefaults] line,
they were not being accepted. I'll close this bug.

The original laptop that was working has now, on a separate install of 8.3
with the 304xx nVidia driver installed from the repositories, stopped
logging in automatically.

The problem has returned on a computer with exactly the same purpose, this
time a Dell Inspiron 530.

The bug might be hardware related, as one of the desktops was replaced and
the problem went away. The new replacement is an Optiplex 320, and since it
is used for the same purpose, it has a virtually identical set of packages.
Again, there may be minor differences, but they should only be in the
high-level software packages.

2015-12-11 Thread Avery Adams
The installs were virtually identical, except for whatever packages Debian
may have chosen to install due to the hardware differences. I only
installed very few packages myself, such as VirtualBox, before I rebooted
to use autologin. I did this on both the laptop and one desktop. The other
desktop had a base setup only and still failed with XFCE and LightDM.

Sorry I sent the first one directly to Yves.

The KDM bugreport I filed for this can be found at #807719.
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=807719

Also, I can upload my LightDM log from a failed autologin attempt if you
would like.

If it works on one install and not on another, you need to compare your
installs by yourself, there's not so much we can do.

For what it's worth, it worked fine here as well, last time I checked.
