on my 32-bit-system it it not possible to mark several packages using the ctrl- key. It is no hardware problem as the functionality works in other programs (e.g. caja). My 64-bit-system, which also uses synaptic 0.83+b1 (but amd64-package) does not have this issue. Yours G.
