I'm making this bug not RC in the meantime.

My current theory is that this is an artifact of the setup used by
Chris to build packages.

In my own setup, I use sbuild + eatmydata + overlayfs.

I can build most packages with such setup, but sometimes I get some
strange build failures which disappear when I stop using eatmydata or
overlayfs. An example:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=842786

So I always have to disable those addons and try again after a build
failure to be sure that the build failure is real.

I believe that this build failure could be similar, because AFAIK
docker uses overlayfs internally.

But of course, I could be wrong.

Thanks.

Hi Chris,s

I'm tempted to set the severity to this bug to normal/minor. Could you
please try again whether we can even close it?

Kind regards

   Andreas.

Hi.

It builds ok for me on eight different autobuilders,
using sbuild on a sid chroot.

Chris, I would try with sbuild and without docker.

Thanks.

Still doesn't build for me, alas. Same error.

I can confirm that it now also builds for me again. I'm tempted to
close this bug again which seems to have been a temporary issue of some
Build-Dependency.

Chris, what do you think?

Kind regards

 Andreas.

Builds for me as well (both from svn and from the archive, both with
-j1 and -j4). cowbuilder sid amd64.

(BZW: svn seems to miss the tag for 1.31-3. Or my svn foo has
deteriorated too much.)

I just made a build attempt (1-31-3) with pbuilder, updated right before
build, based on latest svn source and it built fine
Onyl difference is make -j4 for you and make -j1 for me (automatic update
by debhelper?)

You catched me - after recreating my chroot I also get a FTBFS - however
different from yours. While the step you reported looks pretty normal:

The variable names have not changed in any recent upload and as you can
see DBUSER etc are used.

Does anybody else have some idea?

How up-to-date? :) My chroot is completely and I can still reproduce.

Glancing quickly at Makefile.PL and debian/rules it looks like the
variable names have changed (eg. was DBUSER, etc.).
