I actually planned to work on it either tomorrow or wednesday, so it
should be fine :)

Done in 5.0.2, that's been packaged as 5.0.2+dfsg-0tails1 for Tails already.
I've tested it on Debian sid and it works fine for me.

… so this is the only remaining step. Almost there, woohoo!

Ulrike, do you think you can take care of it before this package gets
auto-removed from testing (November 17)? Let me know if you need help:
I'll be super busy next week but I can probably sneak this in if needed.

For example, I could take care of cleaning up the new debian/changelog
entries, which seems to be the only not-100%-mechanical part of the
work needed to import the package into Debian in the case at hand.

Usually it would be good to refresh the packaging while we're at it
(Standards-Version & various issues spotted by Lintian) but given the
auto-removal deadline is approaching fast, let's please prioritize
uploading the new upstream release over such polishing :)

Cheers,

Both were merged, part of new upstream releases, and have landed
in sid.

So we're now only waiting for the tails-installer fixes to be released
upstream and then uploaded to Debian.

Bug#878040: tails-installer: Creates non-bootable USB sticks on current testing/sid

2017-10-08 Thread intrigeri
Package: tails-installer
Version: 4.4.18+dfsg-1
Severity: serious
Tags: upstream
X-Debbugs-Cc: ano...@riseup.net

Hi!

Since a recent udisks2 update in Debian testing/sid, Tails Installer
creates USB sticks that are bootable neither with legacy BIOS (because
of the lack of the "legacy BIOS boot" GPT flag) nor with UEFI (because
the system partition has not the ESP type).

A workaround already implemented upstream (not released yet) will fix
UEFI boot; it should be released by mid-November to the latest.

But fixing legacy BIOS boot requires fixes in udisks2 and libblockdev
which have been submitted to the corresponding projects already:

 - https://github.com/storaged-project/libblockdev/pull/288

The corresponding Tails upstream bug is:
https://labs.riseup.net/code/issues/14809

Stretch is not affected.

Cheers,
