Version 2.14 of libmpdclient is available. I had to build it to fix an issue with DB proxing and artist sorting command (support added in 2.12). Upstream switched to meson, but it builds fine with debhelper (>= 11), meson (>= 0.40.1). I made a plain package out of it, I'll try to polish it and rebase it on your packaging if I can.
