I believe I have a repro case extracted from this bug report showing
that #897653 was not actually fixed. It can be downloaded from:
http://ivyzdokx5queplps.onion/repro.tar.xz

It has a number of files generated with tar 1.30, with all
combinations of reproducibility related flags and none of them
reproduces the tarball produced by the version 1.29.

I'm reassigning this to tar.

This seems to be a regression caused by tar.

I can successfully checkout the tarball, but with the version tar_1.29b-2.
When I install tar_1.30+dfsg-1, I cannot checkout anymore.

I guess we'll need to find the real cause in tar then.

This is probably some useful new info:

pristine-tar: failed to generate tarball

The fdroidserver_1.0.6.orig.tar.gz tarball contains a file with
difficult unicode chars as a test that fdroidserver supports unicode
well. It seems that it also has tested pristine-tar's unicode support.
