I had the same problem with the passphrase prompt and could fix it using:
/etc/default/console-setup

[...]
CODESET="Uni3"
FONTFACE="Terminus"
FONTSIZE="16x32"

Bug#941956: tiny font for HighRes monitor on grub rescue and passphrase prompt

2019-10-07 Thread Jörg Sommer
Package: grub2-common
Version: 2.04-3
Severity: normal

Hi,

I'm having a 4k HighRes monitor and using full disk encryption. The
passphrase prompt is very tiny. Is it possible to enlarge this. I've
already enlarged the menu font by setting
`GRUB_FONT=/boot/grub/DejaVuSansMono-highres.pf2` in */etc/default/grub*
and built the font with

grub-mkfont -s 42 -o /boot/grub/DejaVuSansMono-highres.pf2 \
  /usr/share/fonts/truetype/dejavu/DejaVuSansMono.ttf

But this doesn't help with the grub rescue prompt and the passphrase
prompt.

Thanks in advance.

Jörg
