Hmm, I am neither Gnome nor Wayland user ;-) I used to use Cinnamon and
now use my home compiled KDE/Plasma ;-)

Looks like fcitx5 is still not ready for production use. There's still no
ABI/API compatibility guarantee. However, it would be great if you could do
some testing and examine its compatibility with native (GNOME) Wayland
environment as well as its functionality to kill-and-{mimic,replace} ibus. As
a GNOME-on-Xorg user, I personally haven't tested these areas at all so such
testing report would be interesting.

Are you using fcitx or fcitx5? They are completely different packages and
should not be mixed together.

* If you are using fcitx, please configure it using kde-config-fcitx.
* If you are using fcitx5, please configure it using kde-config-fcitx5 (or
running fcitx5-config-qt).

I just tested kde-config-fcitx5 and it is working even under GNOME. Please let
me know the detailed setup on your system.

I am trying to configure fcitx via the plasma/kde panel, but it gave me
an error
Cannot connect to Fcitx by DBus, is Fcitx running?
Then I tried to start it directly via
fcitx5-config-qt
with the same result.

But fcitx is running, I checked the addons and the dbus interface is
activated, so I am a bit surprised what is going on?

Any suggestion how to get this working?
