I'm inclined to to just close this bug now as it probbly won't come
back, or if so it will flow automatically back into then rebased
versions of kernel in Debian.

I will not close it right now, to give a second pair of eyes time to
comment or take action.

Salvatore

FTR, here is Linus statement on the removal and what needs to be done:

OK, I forwarded this upstream here:

Yeah, I'm also bitten by this for my day-to-day workflows, but unfortunately
this was removed upstream, this is not a Debian-specific patch, so this
needs to be fixed upstream, before it becomes available in Debian again.

Moritz

Package: src:linux
Version: 5.8.10-1
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: Asher Gordon

Dear Maintainer,

After upgrading to linux-image-5.8.0-2, I noticed that scrollback is no
longer available in the console. A quick look at the changelog
('apt changelog linux-image-amd64') indicates that this was done to fix
CVE-2020-14390. Surely however, there must be a better way to fix this
than simply removing this code entirely?

It is pretty annoying not having scrollback, and I'm sure I'm not the
only one who would like scrollback replaced.

Thanks,
Asher
