Hello,

after upgrading I tried to reinstall texlive-binaries a first time and
the error was there. Tried a second time and it was gone. Probably on
the first attempt the update-alternatives database was still broken and
needed a repair. Log follows. A third run didn't show the error either.

Thanks again!

Regards,
Gabriele

Hi Gabriele,

while configuring texlive-binaries, the following warning appeared:

update-alternatives: warning: forcing reinstallation of alternative
/usr/bin/bibtex.original because link group bibtex is broken
update-alternatives: warning: not replacing
/usr/share/man/man1/bibtex.1.gz with a link

The warning is reproducible on subsequent reinstallations.

The new TL base migrated into testing, so the issue should be gone now.
Could you retest?

Hi,

Which version of texlive-base do you have installed?

2020.20200804-3, the one currently in testing.

Ah, now I see the latest texlive-base 2020.20200925-1 fixes #970838,
which should be the real bug behind this one. Is this so? In this case,
apologies for the noise.

At least I expect that it should solve the issue, as the file conflict
has been removed. Could you re-test once the package entered testing?
