2021-02-02 Thread Rajasekhar Ponakala
Hi Team,

There's a new upstream release. I'll package and sign it and make the
appropriate changes in the VCS URL and then dput it.

Thanks.

On closer look Net_IDNA2 is only used as a fallback when idn_to_{ascii,utf8}()
do not exist. Roundcube has a hard dependency on php-intl already, so
as far as Debian is concerned the part using Net_IDNA2 is dead code. I
therefore drop my interest in having php-net-idna2 in Bullseye and
restore the RC severity :-)

Appologies for the noise

I found a migrated repository that seem have to done some work to import
the latest upstream version[1]. Recent most commits incorrectly
overwrote the upstream source with another package's source. Some
reverting and testing should get the package in shape. I can help if needed.

Yup you're right, once this is ready php-net-idna2 should show up in
Roundcube's (Build-)Depends. I hope to finalize that before the freeze,
so lowering the bug severity for now to remove its RC status :-)

Seems like a good enough reason to keep it in testing/unstable. Feel
free to downgrade the severity of this bug report, and Sunil, please
hold on the RM request.

Guilhem, I did not spot that with ”build-rdeps php-net-idna2”, so I
assume your need is a work in progress (please, do correct me If I’m
wrong). In case you don’t need this package for Bullseye, please keep
(or raise again) the severity of this bug report, and drop it once your
extended testsuite is ready.

I can give a hand and help bringing it up to shape for Bullseye.

I’m pretty sure this will be appreciated if you want to keep the package
around ;).

Regards

David

Roundcube's test suite which I'm working on now has some tests making
use of Net_IDNA2 so I'd like to keep the package around if possible :-)
I can give a hand and help bringing it up to shape for Bullseye.

Hi David,

I will be filing an RM: bug on the package on Jan 10, 2021. I will wait
to see if the other uploaders think it is still needed.

Thanks,

Package: php-net-idna2
Severity: serious

[ Reported by a team member to see the package removed from testing ]

php-net-idna2 was introduced in Debian as part of the gnusocial
packaging effort, but its ITP (#782812) has no activity for more than
three years. Furthermore, php-net-idna2 in Debian seems pretty outdated.
No packages currently depend on it, so I don’t believe it’s useful to
keep it around.

Unless someone disagree with the above, I intend to ask for removal of
this package soon (so if you read this message years from now, no need
to ask for permission to act on what I’ve failed to…).

Thank you Holger for triggering a closer look to this package!

David
