Yes, actually I tried, only to discover it's an incredibly difficult task
to cover
in such a short time. I'd rather not let dolphin-emu go to bookworm, and
keep
working slowly on it for trixie.

Are you still intending to upload dolphin-emu? In order to be in
the bookworm release it would need to reenter testing by 2023-02-12:

https://release.debian.org/testing/freeze_policy.html#summary

I think a package needs to actually *migrate* by that cut-off date, so
the upload deadline is really 2/5/10 days earlier depending on whether
there are autopkgtests, etc.

Olly

Hi there,

as a Debian Games Team maintained package, I could do a team upload very soon.

Hello there,

I'm 100% with you on packaging the beta version on Debian. But sadly I have no
time for Debian lately due to my new job position.
I shouldn't have own the bug for this long, it's my fault. If anyone want to
work on this and needs sponsoring I can still do it tho.

Cheers,

Any update about this? I'm afraid that at this rate there won't be any package

I've tested building the beta snapshots and they are quite reliable (on
bullseye). I don't understand what's the problem with packaging them.
This is done all the time in Debian, for example "black" a python code auto
formatter was in beta for a couple of Debian releases (including buster and Bullseye)

I hope we can see the dolphin-emu packages in Debian again.

Best regards,

Dear Maintainer,

The current dolphin-emu packages lacks almost 5 years of upstream
improvements.

I know that technically there isn't any new upstream release,
but my feeling is that this is getting ridiculous.

The current package has lots of bugs regarding the usage of a real
wiimote,

lots of games are unplayable, the GUI is antique
(upstream switched to QT5 3 years ago), etc...
Current documentation and user expectations are way out of line
with the state of the official debian package stuck at the 5.0 release.

If you agree with me that an update is welcome, I'm not coming empty
handed,

I did my homework, I can share my current progress,
but I struggled on 2 points:
* some embedded libs (FreeSurround, minizip, ...) are more up2date
in the tarball than the debian packaged version, so I used the bundled
one

* updating the d/copyright file is a real pain
This is clearly not "release material" but it's a start:

Thanks for reading up to this point.

Best Regards,
Sébastien

Hello Sébastien,

There's currently bug #976530 [1] which is preventing dolphin-emu from reaching
testing since 2021-01-05. This bug has been fixed upstream way looong ago.

We are trying to fix it by backporting a patch, but I think more and more
that packaging a new upstream version would do the trick and greatly improve
the package.

I'm in the process of contacting upstream to make them reconsider their release
policy, I don't think we can hope for upstream to release 6.0, but maybe
introducing
release candidate or anything like that based on their beta version, so that
every
distro may pick up these sort of 'pre stable' version and keep up-to-date with
the
features while having some sort of 'increased stability'. Currently the version
of
dolphin-emu packaged across distro is totally scattered [2].

Let's see how it goes! Otherwise we can always try to package a beta version
and upload
it to experimental.

Thanks for your work! It will greatly help if we decide to package new upstream
version!

Cheers,
