Bug#568942: [Pkg-samba-maint] Bug#568942: samba: mtab corruption via malicious crafted string
While there may be a patch for the specific issue, Jeremy made it pretty clear that it's not suitable for setuid root status. This second bug about the mtab corruption is another indicative. While it's a little more intrusive than other fixes, it appears to me that the only correct fix for Lenny is also dropping the setuid root bit while documenting the necessary dpkg-statoverride calls. I went agin through upstream #6853 (https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6853) and I begin to be convinced that, yes, we should drop the setuid bit *even in Lenny*. It is very likely to break some existing setup but that really seems to be a trade-off with high security concerns. Steve, when discussing this, you were OK with dropping the setuid bit in squeeze (which we did...though I need now to upload) but at first glance, dropping it in lenny didn't have your favor. While I was originally having the same advice, I'm much more balanced right now, also because I looked at patches proposed in #6853 and I have doubts that my work on them to have them apply on Debian's 3.2.5 is correct. So, really now, I'm wondering whether dropping that setuid but wouldn't much safer. That's obviously breaking the principle of least surprise and need to document things in NEWS.Debian, including the use of dpkg-statoverride. Something like what we did put in NEWS.Debian for squeeze, but slightly more complete. * As of this version, the mount.cifs binary is no longer setuid. Upstream has always been increasingly unsupportive of this configuration over time. For instance, in bugs like https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6853, it is clearly mentioned that having it setuid root is discouraged. If you really rely on moiunt.cifs being setuid root, you need to use the following command: dpkg-statoverride --add root root 4755 /sbin/mount.cifs Be aware that this is highly discouraged by the Samba Team because mount.cifs code has not been deeply audited. I also fail to see why mount.cifs/umount.cifs should be accessible for a non-privileged user in the first place. Noone would even think about doing that for NFS, so why should CIFS be any different? In #6853, there are mentions of KDE network browser relying on this. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#537918: Announce of an upcoming upload for the tiger package
Dear maintainer of tiger and Debian translators, Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the tiger Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation update in the BTS. The package maintainer and I agreed for a translation update round. At the end of this period, I will send him|her a full patch so that an l10n upload can happen. The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail. The package is currently translated to: cs da de es fr ja nl pt pt_BR ru sv vi Among these, the following translations are incomplete: cs da nl pt pt_BR ru vi If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get ANOTHER mail with the translation to update. Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report against the tiger package so I can incorporate them in the build. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Friday, February 19, 2010. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. The POT file is attached to this mail. Schedule: Thursday, February 11, 2010 : send the first intent to NMU notice to the package maintainer. Saturday, February 13, 2010 : send this notice Friday, February 19, 2010 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation updates Saturday, February 20, 2010 : Send a summary to the maintainer. Bug#569665: Please update the Packages-arch-specific entries for the Ada packages
Package: buildd.debian.org Severity: normal Please update the Packages-arch-specific entries for the Ada packages as follows. alpha is disabled in all packages that need or provide project files due to http://gcc.gnu.org/PR42073. mips is disabled for some packages due to http://bugs.debian.org/566234. Also, I think the entry for ghdl should be removed completely but please check with the ghdl maintainer first. Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 * Package name: davmail Version : 3.6.3 Upstream Author : Mickaël Guessan mgues...@free.fr * URL : http://davmail.sourceforge.net * License : GPL Programming Lang: Java Description : DavMail is a POP/IMAP/SMTP/Caldav/LDAP exchange gateway allowing users to use any mail/calendar client (e.g. Thunderbird with Lightning or Apple iCal) with an Exchange server, even from the internet or behind a firewall through Outlook Web Access. Ever wanted to get rid of Outlook ? DavMail is a POP/IMAP/SMTP/Caldav/LDAP exchange gateway allowing users to use any mail/calendar client (e.g. Thunderbird with Lightning or Apple iCal) with an Exchange server, even from the internet or behind a firewall through Outlook Web Access. DavMail now includes an LDAP gateway to Exchange global address book to allow recipient address completion in mail compoze window and full calendar support with attendees free/busy display. The main goal of DavMail is to provide standard compliant protocols in front of proprietary Exchange. This means LDAP for address book, SMTP to send messages, IMAP to browse messages on the server in any folder, POP to retrieve inbox messages only and Caldav for calendar support. Thus any standard compliant client can be used with Microsoft Exchange. DavMail gateway is implemented in java and should run on any platform. Releases are tested on Windows, Linux (Ubuntu) and Mac OSX. Tray does not work on MacOS and is replaced with a full frame. Tested successfully with the Iphone (gateway running on a server). -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.10 (GNU/Linux) iEYEARECAAYFAkt2ewwACgkQw5UvgfnzqGpIIACdGAI1KuNgdYAKTWinuQTqVgPw plwAn3vah0F2IvNe9eYFFKkOsOM6UYSh =sOcC -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#478323: I could package Knoplerfish's Framework only
Hello, in order to package freeplane [1], I need only the framework part of the complete set, and it's pretty easy to package as there is only one dependency on libasm3-java. Question: should I close as well the RTP bug, or do you need also the bundles part? I'm asking because the bug is already so old, not sure anybody but me needs it anymore. BTW, I plan to rename the source packge to 'knoplerfish-osgi' and the binary to 'libknoplerfish-osgi-framework-java' (and someone could then later add 'libknoplerfish-osgi-bundles-java'). OK for you? Bug#569578: aptitude: Mark package as having been manually removed
Christophe Lohr wrote: Severity: wishlist Pardon me butting in on your wishlist; I'm just a random bystander, but you reminded me of an unsubmitted wishlist item of my own that might in fact be a better match for what you're after. Hi, aptitude can mark a package as manual installed or automatically installed. Symmetrically, I suggest to introduce a way to mark a package as being manually removed or automatically removed. Similarly, aptitude should avoid to automatically reconsider a manual decision. For example, if a packet is marked as having been manually removed, aptitude should not try to install it again on the pretext that another package recommends or suggests it. This could easily lead to trouble in day-to-day use. Imagine: * I install package foo. It depends on either bar or baz, so I let it pull in the default, bar. * When I decide to try foo with baz, I manually remove bar (since that's the easiest way to get foo to switch to using baz); aptitude silently blacklists it. * Later I discover the package quux, and ask aptitude to install it. It would also like to pull in bar, but doesn't. * Unfortunately, quux needs bar - it's just that in principle it can be configured to use a remote bar-server, so it only has a Recommends instead of a Depends. * Thus I end up with an inoperable quux install. Most of the time when I uninstall a package, I'm not ruling out the possibility I might someday want it back. A package I genuinely want to tell to get out and stay out is an exceptional case; and it seems to me that what I'm after there is something more like purging it and then putting it on hold. At present, hold means keep version X.Y-Z installed, and can only be applied when the package is in fact installed; maybe it could be generalised to let me hold off unwanted packages (keep version NULL installed). Thus for instance if I wanted to install individual GNOME-compatible apps without them automatically inviting all their friends along with them I would be able to put gconf2 on hold-off to break the dependency chain. Notice that doing it this way means I never need to have had it installed in the first place. It would also make sense to let it apply to virtual packages. Another way of getting there would be to extend forbid-version so it interprets aptitude forbid-version gconf2=* as forbid all versions. Oh, except that forbid-version doesn't seem to stop packages being pulled in by dependencies. Yet another approach that's already possible (with some effort) is to use equivs to create a dummy dependency package that declares a Conflicts: gconf2. -- JBR PS: and a pony! -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#569669: ndoutils-nagios3-mysql: UNIQUE KEY `instance_id` for TABLE `nagios_configfiles` too strict
Package: ndoutils-nagios3-mysql Version: 1.4b7-11 Severity: minor Hello all, in /usr/share/dbconfig-common/data/ndoutils-mysql/install/mysql the table `nagios_configfiles` is created with a unique key `instance_id` over (`instance_id`,`configfile_type`,`configfile_path`). However, in /etc/nagios3/nagios.cfg, the variable cfg_dir can be set multiple times. In fact, is is even set multiple times in the default configuration as shipped in the nagios3-common package. In turn, that table won't represent the true state of the config file as on every nagios restart the insert of the second (and higher) instance of cfg_dir will fail with | ndo2db: Error: mysql_query() failed for 'INSERT INTO nagios_configfilevariables SET instance_id='1', configfile_id='102', varname='cfg_dir', varvalue='/etc/nagios3/conf\.d'' Methinks that key doesn't really need to be unique, but I'm unsure whether that would have any unforeseen consequences, so I'll leave this up to the maintainer and/or upstream to decide. Bug#569310: coreutils: 'info tsort' examples: 1st vague, 2nd too specialized

Would you like to propose a better example? Patches are most welcome. Of course the above code is a coincidental replacement, not a true 'tsort'. It's as though we had an elite new command mul (short for multiply) and our example was: % mul 2 2 4 Novices might wonder if mul added 2 2. The example would be clearer if it showed a more distinctive result that wasn't trivial to simulate. The 'info' page's later more realistic example is an obscure C code puzzle, of historic interest, and is perhaps informative to the small minority that appreciates the puzzle. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#560058: [buildd-tools-devel] Bug#560058: quinn-diff: should support architecture wildcards
Andres, On Wed, Feb 10, 2010 at 02:46:10AM -0500, Andres Mejia wrote: The Dpkg::Arch function debarch_is() takes the first parameter as the architecture and the second parameter as the alias (wildcard). So using an alias of any will always match true, regardless of what architecture is set, such as s390. Also, trying to match any against linux-any will fail via debarch_is(), since it won't recognize linux-any as an architecture. This is the behavior you should expect. By the way, I'm attaching a patch against the dpkg-perl branch that fixes the ordering of the parameters to debarch_is(). I've also optimized the arch_equivalent() function when use_equivalence is set to true. Now all aliases of any and all return true and skip running the Perl code entirely. Setting the alias to any would always return true from debarch_is() anyway, and debarch_is() doesn't recognize all as an alias, though all should always return true as well. sadly I didn't have much time yet to think it through, but I should share my comments: I'm not entirely happy with the current state as the signature suggests that architectures could be passed into this function in an arbitrary order. Could you update the signature and add some comment outlining how it works? As I understood it the order of the equivalence is currently inverse to what debarch_is expects (i.e. element out of list, current arch/any/all instead of current/any/all, alias/wildcard). Now if I check this: is_equivalent(linux-any, any) then linux-any is an element in the architecture list and this should yield true. I guess that your patch now does this? (I found the first paragraph a bit hard to understand.) is_equivalent(linux-any, all) should also yield true as you state. However is_equivalent(amd64, all) should of course yield false. So I'm not exactly sure (yet) how you see that all should always yield true. :) Kind regards, Philipp Kern -- .''`. Bug#566844: libc6 causing Authentication service cannot retrieve authentication info
On Fri, Feb 12, 2010 at 09:21:59AM -0500, root wrote: On Fri, 12 Feb 2010, Aurelien Jarno wrote: root a écrit : Is more information needed from me? Or is there anything I can do to expedite this bug fix? I've got 138 machines in an unstable state because I can't do updates on them because of this libc6 issue. If there is anything that I can do, please let me know. I have to say I am out of idea. I am only able to reproduce the behaviour you observed when using adjunct passwords (this is actually what the security issue fixed), but at the same time you told me you are not using adjunct passwords. Well, I decided to do some searching around in hopes of coming up with some new ideas. I've never used adjunct passwords before, so I never really knew what they were. After doing some research online, do adjunct passwords mean that you put a ##username in the passwd file for each of the users? If so, I think that might be the problem. We use a custom PAM authentication module that we wrote to do a special type of kerberos authentication. And our passwd file contains the special kerberos principal in the password field, so for instance, our users would have passwd entries like this: username1:##ABC12:123:100:Name:/home/dir1:/bin/tcsh username2:##CAB21:124:100:Name:/home/dir2:/bin/tcsh username3:##I#XYZ12:125:100:Name:/home/dir3:/bin/tcsh username4:##E#ZYX21:125:100:Name:/home/dir4:/bin/tcsh We use the ## to determine whether or not we should use our authentication module or not. Is the new libc6 just looking for the ## in the beginning and using that to determine whether or not the passwd file is using adjunct passwords or not? If so, is there any other way to determine adjunct passwords because I'm guessing that, that must be causing the problem. In other words, the new libc6 is seeing our special password entries and simply removing them. Yes, the new glibc only looks for the ## at the beginning of the passwd entry to detect the adjunct passwords. Actually this part hasn't changed in the new glibc, it's only the corresponding action that has changed. Before it was doing a new query to the NIS server to get the adjunct password and merge it. With the new version merges a 'x' instead, as the real merge is now done in the shadow part. So even before it seems your system was doing a lot of useless NIS requests to the server, even though it harms less than in the current status. I will look if the adjunct password detection can be improved. -- Aurelien Jarno GPG: 1024D/F1BCDB73 aurel...@aurel32.net http://www.aurel32.net -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#566591: pdfxmltex stumbles over supp-pdf.mkii

And pdftex.def uses \AtBeginDocument to load supp-pdf.mkii. Ah, ok, that is a long queue I didn't get. But the format pdfxmltex has not loaded neither color nor hyperref. And the log file of debian that is shown for debian bug report 566591 only shows supp-pdf.mkii without hyperref and without color or pdftex.def. But the .log file is generated by xmlto (I don't know it), that seems to use a different format than TL's pdfxmltex. I attach a .fo file that is intermediately generated by xmlto. Running pdfxmltex on it shows the same problem. I also attach the log file of running it through pdfxmltex. Bug#569673: egroupware-core: illegal error_reporting configuration option in /etc/egroupware/apache.conf
Package: egroupware-core Version: 1.6.002+dfsg-1 Severity: important The shipped apache.conf is broken in that it effectively disables any error reporting. It configures error_reproting as php_value error_reporting 'E_ALL ~E_NOTICE' which does not work in apache config files as the symbolic constant names are not known there. This effectively sets error_reporting to 0 and caused me quite some time to debug the cause of me getting a white page only instead of some helpful error messages, especially I've set error_Reporting correctly in my global php.ini file. Please note the following snipped from on this topic: *** http://www.php.net/manual/en/errorfunc.configuration.php#ini.error-reporting Note: PHP Constants outside of PHP Using PHP Constants outside of PHP, like in httpd.conf, will have no useful meaning so in such cases the integer values are required. And since error levels will be added over time, the maximum value (for E_ALL) will likely change. So in place of E_ALL consider using a larger value to cover all bit fields from now and well into the future, a numeric value like 2147483647 (includes all errors, not just E_ALL). *** -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (950, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (200, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-trunk-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: lang=de...@euro, lc_ctype=de...@euro (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages egroupware-core depends on: ii apache2 2.2.14-5Apache HTTP Server metapackage ii apache2-mpm-prefork [apa 2.2.14-5Apache HTTP Server - traditional n ii debconf [debconf-2.0]1.5.28 Debian configuration management sy ii egroupware-egw-pear 1.6.002-1 modified PEAR modules for eGroupWa ii libapache2-mod-php5 5.2.11.dfsg.1-2 server-side, HTML-embedded scripti ii perl 5.10.1-8Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii php-fpdf 2:1.53.dfsg-6.1 PHP class to generate PDF files ii php-log 1.10.0-1Log module for PEAR ii php-pear 5.2.11.dfsg.1-2 PEAR - PHP Extension and Applicati ii php5-cli 5.2.11.dfsg.1-2 command-line interpreter for the p ii php5-gd 5.2.11.dfsg.1-2 GD module for php5 ii php5-mysql 5.2.11.dfsg.1-2 MySQL module for php5 ii php5-pgsql 5.2.11.dfsg.1-2 PostgreSQL module for php5 Versions of packages egroupware-core recommends: ii mysql-client-5.0 [mysql-clien 5.0.84-1 MySQL database client binaries ii postgresql-client 8.4.2-1front-end programs for PostgreSQL ii postgresql-client-8.4 [postgr 8.4.2-1front-end programs for PostgreSQL Versions of packages egroupware-core suggests: pn egroupware none (no description available) pn php5-auth-pamnone (no description available) ii php5-imap5.2.11.dfsg.1-2 IMAP module for php5 ii php5-ldap5.2.11.dfsg.1-2 LDAP module for php5 ii php5-mcrypt 5.2.11.dfsg.1-2 MCrypt module for php5 ii php5-mhash 5.2.11.dfsg.1-2 MHASH module for php5 -- debconf information: egroupware/header/password/mismatch: * egroupware/configuration/note: * egroupware/header/user: admin -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#536509: Working IPv6 for netkit-tftp
I am submitting an nmudiff for the sake of discussing the implementation of IPv6 for tftp and tftpd from netkit-tftp-0.17. The compressed interdiff is attached to this message. In order to ease the C-code patching, I migrated the package to format 3.0 (quilt). The migration of tftpd to IPv6-ability is almost elementary, no inherent surprises. The only issue is that inetd/xinetd is stumbeling on the value used for 'net.ipv6.bindv6only', but the code change for 'tftpd.c' is independent of this. As you will see from the syslog, both address families work with the present code changes. The addrinfo flags could possibly benefit from more thought, even though I have invested much time already in trying various combinations. I hope to discuss detailed code changes for the client on the mailing list 'debian-ipv6', but let me here advice code testers to add openings in your netfilter rules to allow incoming udp-packages. Can you reproduce it with alpine? Yes, I can reproduce it with alpine 0.99+dfsg-1 and ajaxterm 0.10-1 Ok, as pine has just been removed from unstable, reassigning to alpine is the proper thing to do.
