Bug#452321: could this be related to bug #405997?

2007-12-13 Thread Chris Capoccia
the action taken to resolve bug #405997 (should not prompt the user
about updates)

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=405997
seems like it might have messed around with the plugin system and
caused the current situation where the plugin installer doesn't
initialize.

this can be fixed by including these lines in the start-up script:
---
export MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME=/usr/lib/iceape
if [ $LD_LIBRARY_PATH x = x ]; then export
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME; else export
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH; fi

i have iceape installed. if iceweasel is installed, the export line
might be different.

fc-cache runs out of memory when it is run with the -f option. I have a

when the -f option is not used.

Bug#305680: fontconfig: fc-cache runs out of memory with the -f option and lots of fonts

2005-04-21 Thread Chris Capoccia
Could I get you to give the CVS version a try and see
if it still has trouble on your machine? I can ship
you a .deb if you'd rather have that to test with.

CVS would be OK if you provided step-by-step directions. I don't feel confident
enough that I could get things going properly with just the cvs location. Of
course, a .deb is easy enough to install without any instructions.

If you have any specific tests you want me to run, please let me know.

Bug#305680: fontconfig: fc-cache runs out of memory with the -f option and lots of fonts

2005-04-23 Thread Chris Capoccia
Quoting Keith Packard [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Here's a .deb which should be pretty close to 2.3.2 when it does get
released (your bug is blocking that).

Please run your usual tests and see if it runs out of memory, even
 better would be to run

 valgrind --leak-check=full fc-cache -f

as root and see if there are any leaks reported. There should be none,
I even destroy the configuration object when fc-cache exits now.

 -keith

unfortunately, i am still having the problem of fc-cache -f running out of
memory. it even runs out of memory sooner when it is running under valgrind.
i think valgrind is exiting before it does all the statistics it is supposed to
do.

every time fc-cache runs out of memory, i get something like this written to the
virtual terminal:

maybe there's something in there that means something to you.

i ran
valgrind --leak-check=full --verbose --log-file=/root/3 fc-cache -fv /root/4

i have attatched the two logs as 3.txt and 4.txt

i also ran
fc-cache -fv /root/5

just to see how far through the fonts it could go before running out of memory.
i have attached this as 5.txt.

hope this helps. if there are any more tests or if there are new versions you
want me to try, let me know.

chris.

Bug#305680: fontconfig: fc-cache runs out of memory with the -f option and lots of fonts

2005-04-26 Thread Chris Capoccia
Could you manage to run fc-cache on each directory separately until you
find one which shows memory leaks?

 # valgrind --leak-check=full fc-cache -f -v /usr/local/share/fonts

replacing /usr/local/share/fonts with suitable directories until you get
 leaks displayed?

i'm not sure whether this is a leak or a normal report, but the first
subdirectory i picked finished and reported some data.

# valgrind --leak-check=full fc-cache -f -v /usr/local/share/fonts/TrueType/B/

so it looks like a small leak is present when all the fonts directories
are traversed.

the bug i reported is fixed. fc-cache -f no longer runs out of memory when it
is scanning all my fonts.

now everything works ok.

i suppose this particular bug can be closed, but it seems
like some package either needs to change the way it
identifies cameras or the .la files from the dev package
need to be moved to libgphoto2-2.

Is gdm configured as your default display manager? If not, it will not
start indeed.

i hope gdm is configured as my default display manager. it's the only
display manager i have installed. but i'm not sure how to check for
sure if the system knows that gdm is the default.

# more /etc/X11/default-display-manager
/usr/bin/gdm

is this good enough?

What output do you get by typing “/etc/init.d/gdm start” ?

# /etc/init.d/gdm start
Starting GNOME Display Manager: gdm#

but gdm is never actually started. also it may be interesting that it
does not properly give a new line after the statement about starting
gdm. the prompt is as i've shown it, immediately after gdm instead
of on the next line.

so, i thought i would try to reconfigure it:
# dpkg-reconfigure gdm
Scheduling reload of GNOME Display Manager configuration:
gdminvoke-rc.d: initscript gdm, action reload failed.

If gdm is not running, this is expected and the error is ignored.

i tried this command both ways. i get the same output.

Bug#349945: bins: non-ASCII characters in xml files are corrupted in HTML output

2006-01-25 Thread Chris Capoccia
Package: bins
Version: 1.1.29-4
Severity: important

My xml files (album and image) have unicode characters in them that are being
converted into some other form to make the HTML output. For example, one of my
album.xml files has the title set to Nürnberg, Germany. Mysteriously, this is
converted to Nürnberg, Germany. All of my xml files include the the line:
?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8?
so the unicode characters should be handled properly, but all of the non-ASCII
characters are being mangled.

My locale settings are:

Subject: mozilla-mplayer: 3.25-6 doesn't work, but 3.21-1 does
Package: mozilla-mplayer
Version: 3.21-1
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***

when i install mozilla-mplayer from unstable (3.25-6), no movies will
play. i only get an icon as if the plugin will not load. if i go to
about:plugins, everything looks ok to me.

i removed and purged 3.25-6, and changed my sources to testing. then i
installed only mozilla-mplayer (3.21-1). now everything works fine.

i have no idea what is wrong with 3.2-6, but i'll be happy to run any
tests you can devise.

Bug#368783: mozilla-mplayer: 3.25-6 doesn't work, but 3.21-1 does

2006-05-24 Thread Chris Capoccia
here are the versions of the browser and mplayer that i have installed.
browser:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20060205
Debian/1.7.12-1.1

mplayer:
MPlayer dev-CVS-060430-14:41-4.0.4

mplayer should be coming from this line in /etc/apt/sources.list:
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org sid main

i didn't have any such file as ~/.mplayer/mplayerplug-in.conf so i created a new
file with the debug statement as the only line. then i started mozilla from the
command line and went to a website with a movie. there wasn't much output at
the command line, and none of it seemed to pertain to mplayer:

$ mozilla
grep: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object
file: No such file or directory
cut: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object
file: No such file or directory
sed: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object
file: No such file or directory
grep: /etc/locale.alias: No such file or directory

where is the output from mplayer supposed to go?

chris.

Quoting Ari Pollak [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Which browser are you using? Have you tried upgrading mplayer? What is output
to the console if you set debug=1 in ~/.mplayer/mplayerplug-in.conf?

Bug#517768: shared-mime-info: .avi files are identified as avi document instead of AVI video

2009-03-01 Thread Chris Capoccia
Package: shared-mime-info
Version: 0.60-1
Severity: important

When I double click any .avi file, the file does not open and I get this
message:
---start error message---
Cannot open XYZ.avi
The filename XYZ.avi indicates that this file is of type avi
document. The contents of the file indicate that the file is of type
AVI video. If you open this file, the file might present a security
risk to your system.

Do not open the file unless you created the file yourself, or received
the file from a trusted source. To open the file, rename the file to the
correct extension for AVI video, then open the file normally.
Alternatively, use the Open With menu to choose a specific application
for the file.
---end error message---

I am using Gnome. I think this is the correct package to file the bug
against, but I could be wrong.
