Bug#563353: libcanberra-gstreamer does not enable libcanberra's gstreamer backend

2010-01-01 Thread Dave Lentz
Package: libcanberra-gstreamer
Version: 0.22-1
Severity: important

Installing libcanberra-gstreamer does not enable the gstreamer backend.
libcanberra still tries to use ALSA directly.

Verified:
- gstreamer and all appropriate plugins are installed
- gstreamer is set to use appropriate sink (oss4sink in my case)
- Sample .ogg and .wav files exist and are playable through gstreamer
- canberra-gtk-play works with ALSA emulation

Sample output (with no ALSA emulation enabled):
canberra-gtk-play --file=test.wav
ALSA lib confmisc.c:768:(parse_card) cannot find card '0'
ALSA lib conf.c:4154:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_card_driver
returned error: No such file or directory
ALSA lib confmisc.c:392:(snd_func_concat) error evaluating strings
ALSA lib conf.c:4154:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_concat returned
error: No such file or directory
ALSA lib confmisc.c:1251:(snd_func_refer) error evaluating name
ALSA lib conf.c:4154:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_refer returned
error: No such file or directory
ALSA lib conf.c:4633:(snd_config_expand) Evaluate error: No such file or
directory
ALSA lib pcm.c:2211:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM default
Failed to play sound: File or data not found

Thank you.

Bug#536535: libcanberra: Please build libcanberra with gstreamer support

2009-07-10 Thread Dave Lentz
Package: libcanberra0
Version: 0.12-1
Severity: wishlist
File: libcanberra

The changes should be relatively minor (use --enable-gstreamer at configure)
and recommend (suggest?) libgstreamer as a dependency. Also, since the
gstreamer backend has the lowest priority in libcanberra, it shouldn't affect
ALSA or Pulse users.

The main reason I request this is so OSS4 users can have GNOME system sounds
(The OSS backend doesn't work with OSS4), and I suppose libcanberra may be
used for other tasks in the future.

Bonus points: package the resulting libcanberra-gstreamer.so file in a separate
package like libcanberra-pulse. That would make life wonderful.

The inspiration for this idea came from this thread:

2011-11-05 Thread Dave Lentz
It's easy enough to obtain a new license id (quick, automated process)
and make a little patch (the license numbers are declared at the top of
weather.h).

The only thing I'm not sure about is legal ramifications, though it
looks like TWCi has had the same license since 2008.

Bug#647749: Info received (Bug 647749)

2011-11-05 Thread Dave Lentz
Now I see that TWC is ending its XMLOAP service in favor of a pay model,
and the plugin eventually needs a new weather provider. I'd still
recommend using the patch, as it will buy more time until the issue is
resolved upstream.

Bug#647749: Patch

2011-11-06 Thread Dave Lentz
TWC automatically disabled all existing xmloap licenses on 10/31.
However, they didn't disable the xmloap service itself yet (nor the
ability to get a new license id). The patch will work until TWC's xmloap
service is ended, which could be tomorrow or many moons from now (your
guess is as good as mine).

I applied the patch as shown and my weather plugin is working again. It
will work until TWC ends xmloap or manually disables my license id
(though I can't see why they would do that since the plugin does follow
all of the licensing agreements (non-profit, shows logo and promotional
links, etc.).
