Bug#157696: ant: junitbatchtest attempts to run tests in abstract classes

2008-10-01 Thread Emmanuel Bourg

This issue was also filed in the Ant bug tracker:

https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=20547

I don't think this issue should be fixed in Debian if it isn't changed
in Ant first, otherwise it would be possible to create non repeatable
builds (an ant build that would work on Debian but fail on Windows or
OSX for example).

It's quite easy to work around this issue, the abstract tests can be
named *AbstractTest and then simply excluded from the batchtest, for
example:

junit
  batchtest todir=${build}/classes/test
fileset dir=${build}/classes/test
  include name=**/**Test.class /
  exclude name=**/*AbtractTest.class /
/fileset
  /batchtest
/junit

For these reasons I suggest to close this bug.

Bug#515049: tetrinetx: outdated URL in the package description

2009-02-12 Thread Emmanuel Bourg

Package: tetrinetx
Version: 1.13.16-12.1

The package description for tetrinetx points to the http://tetrinet.org
site which hasn't been available for over a year unfortunately. It
should probably be replaced by its successor, http://www.tetrinet.us

Alternatively, the localized descriptions could point to the national
tetrinet sites instead of the english site. For example
http://www.tetrinet.fr for the french translation, and
http://www.tetrinet.de for the german translation.

Bug#659293: Tomcat with authbind on OpenVZ throws SocketException: Cannot allocate memory (works with sun-java6)

2012-02-09 Thread Emmanuel Bourg

Package: openjdk-6-jre
Version: 6b18-1.8.10-0+squeeze2

I tried to migrate a server from sun-java6 to openjdk-6 but I
encountered an issue with Tomcat 6. The port 80 can't be opened through
authbind, and the catalina log contains the message SocketException:
Cannot allocate memory.

The server is an OpenVZ container with 4GB RAM available, Tomcat is
started with -Xmx1792M.

If authbind is disabled and Tomcat started on port 8080, everything is fine.

I got the same issue on two OpenVZ containers, one with the i386
architecture and the other in amd64.

Reverting to sun-java6 solved the issue.

Other users have also observed this issue, see this question on
StackOverflow:

Bug#658554: Upgrade to 6.0.35-1+squeeze2 failed due to multiline properties in /etc/default/tomcat6

2012-02-03 Thread Emmanuel Bourg

The upgrade to 6.0.35-1+squeeze2 failed with this error on my system:

  dpkg: error processing tomcat6 (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit
status 128

configured to not write apport reports
   Errors were encountered while processing:
   tomcat6

I tracked the issue back to the /etc/default/tomcat6 file which was
modified in this update. In this file I split the JAVA_OPTS properties
on multiple lines to improve the readability:

JAVA_OPTS=-server -Djava.awt.headless=true
   -Xmx1536M
   -XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError
   -XX:HeapDumpPath=/var/log/tomcat

Unfortunately debconf doesn't seem to appreciate this. I had to reformat
the property on a single line to complete the installation of this update.

Bug#717638: transition: libmetadata-extractor-java 2.6

2013-07-23 Thread Emmanuel Bourg
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: transition

I'd like to request a transition slot for libmetadata-extractor-java 2.6. Debian
currently ships the version 2.3 but the ongoing packaging effort for Apache Tika
requires to upgrade this library to 2.6 or later (#499606). The new version is
not compatible and impacts the following packages:

  josm
  gpsprune

The package josm-plugins also depends on libmetadata-extractor-java but doesn't
seems to use it directly.

The new version of libmetadata-extractor-java is being worked on and will be
uploaded to experimental soon. A patch for JOSM is being reviewed upstream.

Thank you,

Emmanuel Bourg

Bug#591583: libbsf-java: new upstream version 3.1 available

2013-07-31 Thread Emmanuel Bourg
BSF 3.x is a completely different thing, it consists in :

- The javax.script API (JSR-223) which was integrated to Java 6. It runs
on Java 1.4 and Java 5.

- A command line utility for querying the available script engines and
executing scripts.

- A helper class for converting a XML file into a scriptable XML object.

- A servlet for running scripts on the server side (this feature is
incomplete)

So if BSF 3.x was to be packaged it should be a different package.

BSF 3.x seems to be only used by Apache Tuscany:

http://mvnrepository.com/artifact/org.apache.bsf/bsf-utils/3.1

BSF 2.x is used by Ant, Groovy, UIMA and Canoo WebTest:

The boilerpipe library provides algorithms to detect and remove the surplus
clutter (boilerplate, templates) around the main textual content of a web
page.

The library already provides specific strategies for common tasks (for example:
news article extraction) and may also be easily extended for individual problem
settings.

Extracting content is very fast (milliseconds), just needs the input document
(no global or site-level information required) and is usually quite accurate.

* Arbitrary numbers of values per line
* Ignoring commas in quoted elements
* Handling quoted entries with embedded carriage returns (ie entries that span
multiple lines)
* Configurable separator and quote characters (or use sensible defaults)
* Read all the entries at once, or use an Iterator style model
* Creating csv files from String[] (ie. automatic escaping of embedded quote

Debian has JGroups 2.12, this version doesn't use authentication. An
attacker can disrupt a node (stopping or slowing it down) but not
execute arbitrary code.

Diagnostics are enabled by default. We can simply disable them by default.

Bug#726432: ITP: libjdom2-java -- Java API for accessing, manipulating and outputting XML data

2013-10-15 Thread Emmanuel Bourg
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Emmanuel Bourg ebo...@apache.org

* Package name: libjdom2-java
  Version : 2.0.5
Upstream Author : Jason Hunter, Rolf Lear
* URL : http://www.jdom.org
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: Java
Description : Java API for accessing, manipulating and outputting
XML data

JDOM provides a solution for using XML from Java that is as simple as
Java itself.

There is no compelling reason for a Java API to manipulate XML to be
complex, tricky, unintuitive, or a pain in the neck. JDOM is both
Java-centric and Java-optimized. It behaves like Java, it uses Java
collections, it is completely natural API for current Java developers,
and it provides a low-cost entry point for using XML.

While JDOM interoperates well with existing standards such as the Simple
API for XML (SAX) and the Document Object Model (DOM), it is not an
abstraction layer or enhancement to those APIs. Rather, it provides a
robust, light-weight means of reading and writing XML data without the
complex and memory-consumptive options that current API offerings provide.

This package is a spin-off of libjdom1-java. The new 2.0 API is not
compatible with the previous one and requires a new package.

I already filed the bugs upstream. sisu-guice has been fixed and a patch

point, when I checked the code it didn't seem trivial to fix, so it
would be better handled by the upstream developers.

Bug#728375: libjetty8-java-doc: Questionable dependencies

2013-10-31 Thread Emmanuel Bourg
Hi Mauro,

The JDK documentation alone uses about 240 MB. Almost all Java
documentation packages depend on this, but you have to pay the price
only once. The dependency is necessary to have nice links between the
Javadoc of the package specific classes and the Javadoc of the core Java
classes.

Bug#728562: libgpars-groovy-java, groovy: error when trying to install together: overwriting /usr/share/groovy/lib/gpars.jar

2013-11-04 Thread Emmanuel Bourg
Hi Russel,

Thank you for your help in sorting this out. As I understand that means
Debian has to package Groovy 1.x and 2.x separately.

For the clarification, Debian can ship several versions of the same
library. It's just avoided until it's absolutely necessary (junit 3 and
4, asm, servlet-api are some examples). jars in /usr/share/java are
simply renamed to avoid collisions.

Regarding Java 8, you may be interested to learn that it's now possible
to build a Debian package of the official Java 8 preview release using
java-package 0.53.

I hope the groovy package in Debian will become a first class citizen in
the Groovy ecosystem, we aren't there yet but if you know of people in
the Groovy community interested in helping they are welcome!

jarjar and proguard.

2013-11-07 Thread Emmanuel Bourg

Bug#729006: FTBFS: missing libmockito-java dependency

2013-11-07 Thread Emmanuel Bourg
Thank you for the log.

The build doesn't fail in Debian. The difference comes from the modified
version of xmlgraphics-commons in Ubuntu. In Debian libmockito-java is a
transitive dependency of maven2 (through libmaven2-core - libdoxia-java
- libfop-java - libxmlgraphics-commons-java - libmockito-java), but
in Ubuntu the dependency on libmockito-java has been removed from
libxmlgraphics-commons-java (and that makes sense since it's not a
runtime dependency).

The right solution is to ignore the dependency by modifying
debian/maven.ignoreRules in maven-javadoc-plugin.

Bug#730950: felix-bundlerepository: FTBFS: error: method compareTo in class Version cannot be applied to given types

2013-12-01 Thread Emmanuel Bourg
Thank you for the report David.

This can be fixed by setting the compiler source/target level to 1.3.
The new version of maven-compiler-plugin defaults to 1.5 and breaks some
packages like felix-bundlerepository.

Setting the language level is done by adding these properties in
debian/maven.properties:

maven.compiler.source=1.3
maven.compiler.target=1.3

reassign -1 maven-plugin-tools

The missing dependency is on the maven-plugin-tools package and not
maven-debian-helper. maven-plugin-tools 3.2 has a new artifact that post
process the compiled classes to find plugin annotations and generate the
plugin descriptor, and this processing uses asm.

The patch looks good. I would just suggest adding a space before the

Also the name of the patch is missing a sequence number

Bug#613889: ant dies with bus error in kfreebsd-amd64 virtual machine

2013-04-24 Thread Emmanuel Bourg
I installed a fresh VM with Wheezy/kfreebsd-amd64 and I couldn't
reproduce this issue. Ant worked fine and I have been able to build
libjna-java.

This is probably a duplicate of the Bug #570889.

Hi Ryan,

Do you know if this issue has been submitted upstream? That was an
enhancement request or a bug not present in the upstream version of antlr?

Bug#706172: antlr3 attempts to install files in /usr/share/maven-repo on building (FTBFS)

2013-04-25 Thread Emmanuel Bourg
Package: antlr3

I'm unable to build antlr3, it fails to install the pom in debian/maven-repo:

The pom can't be installed because debian/maven-repo/org/antlr/antlr-master/3.2
is a symlink to /usr/share/maven-repo/org/antlr/antlr-master/3.2 :

Thus it's only possible to build the package as root.

Bug#706172: antlr3 attempts to install files in /usr/share/maven-repo on building (FTBFS)

2013-04-25 Thread Emmanuel Bourg
Severity: important

After further investigation, this only happens if the antlr3 package is
already installed on the system.

'mvn install' is called during the build and tries to install the
artifacts in the Maven repository in debian/maven-repo. This repository
created by /usr/share/maven-debian-helper/copy-repo.sh contains absolute
symlinks to /usr/share/maven-repo.

Florian,

at worse, compatibility problems result, depending on the order classes
 are loaded in the JVM.

Could you elaborate on how this could create a compatibility issue? As
long as the libraries in the classpath are all based on the same version

Bug#721072: libjson-java contains non free elements from json.org

2013-08-27 Thread Emmanuel Bourg
Package: libjson-java
Version: 2.3-2
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.2.1

JSON-lib, packaged as libjson-java, contains some elements from
the json.org Java API which is distributed under the non free
shall be used for Good, not Evil license.

The JSONString interface from libjson-java [1] is identical to the one
from json.org [2] but includes an additional Apache License header.
The Javadoc comments in JSONArray and JSONObject are also copied verbatim
from json.org.

It's not clear if JSON-lib is derived from the json.org implementation
or if the authors started from scratch and copied only the Javadoc.

Bug#721136: java-package: building Java 8 ea package

2013-08-28 Thread Emmanuel Bourg
make-jpkg doesn't work with the early access version because it doesn't
recognize the version from the name of the file. The format expected is:

jre-([0-9]+)u([0-9]+)-linux-(i586|x64|amd64)\.(bin|tar\.gz)

So you can work around this issue by renaming the file to
jre-8u0-linux-x64.tar.gz

Bug#687075: generated package depends on unavailable libav{codec,format}52

2013-08-29 Thread Emmanuel Bourg
With Java 7u6 Oracle started shipping JavaFX which relies on two libs
fxavcodecplugin-52.so and fxavcodecplugin-53.so linked to
libavcodec/libavformat 52 and 53 respectively. I guess they do so to
support a wide range of systems, but that's problematic for
dpkg-shlibdeps since only one version is usually available. Due to this
the generated package declares no dependency at all.

A workaround is to unpack manually the JDK/JRE archive, remove the
fxavcodecplugin-xx.so library linked to the unavailable version of
libavcodec/libavformat, rebuild the archive and then run make-jpkg.

With this the package dependencies are properly set, but I ignore if
JavaFX will complain at some point about the fxavcodecplugin that was
removed.

I believe maven-compiler-plugin 3.1 requires Maven 3 to build, so we'll
have to complete the transition to Maven 3 before packaging this update.

If you don't absolutely need the most recent version we could at least
upgrade to the last version compatible with Maven 2 (2.5.1). This will
also require an update to plexus-compiler.

Bug#580170: [Help] Trying to upgrade mkgmap but failed with Java problem

2013-06-05 Thread Emmanuel Bourg
Hi Andreas,

The build doesn't compile the code, so you can't run the
uk.me.parabola.mkgmap.main.Main class. You probably want to run the Ant
dist target to build the project instead of using the makefile, see the
comment in ./Makefile:

# This is NOT used to build mkgmap. To build use ant.

Emmanuel Bourg

PS: Don't forget to CC debian-j...@lists.debian.org for your Java

It seems maven is somehow involved even if at least to my limited

rather than trying to download anything. But what exactly?

Ivy is used to manage the dependencies. The Ant build starts by
downloading Ivy and the rely on Ivy to fetch the dependencies from the
central Maven repository. You have to patch build.xml to skip this step
and build the classpath from the jars in /usr/share/java.

Bug#711212: ITP: libfastutil-java -- Java API providing type-specific maps, sets, lists and queues

2013-06-05 Thread Emmanuel Bourg

Remark: I have basically finished the lintian clean packaging and moved
 the debian/ dir to

 http://people.debian.org/~tille/packages/libfastutil-java/

Quick review:
- A get-orig-source target in debian/rules would be welcome
- There is a typo in debian/copyright: On Debian systems you can find a
copy of GNU Lesser General Public License at
/usr/share/common-licenses/Apache-2.0

 What do you think?

There are other libraries depending on fastutil, it may have a wider
usage in the future than your immediate need. I think that would make
sense to put it under the Java Team umbrella so we can help and ensure
its consistency with the other Java packages.

Thank you. I'm used to see the source tarball installed in the parent
directory. Will it work if copied into ../tarballs instead?

Hmmm, what exactly is the typo? Sorry, can't parse it. :-(

There is a mix between LGPL and the Apache-2.0 license at the end.

That's fine. Any doc / example package? Git or SVN prefered?

Use the VCS you prefer, the Java Team works with both.

Bug#711314: Missing jars in /usr/share/maven-repo

2013-06-06 Thread Emmanuel Bourg
Package: libmockito-java
Version: 1.9.0+ds1-2.1
Severity: serious

The libmockito-java package is no longer installing the jars in the local Maven
repository (/usr/share/maven-repo). This prevents other packages using Maven
and depending on Mockito to build properly.

Here is the list of the files installed by the version 1.9.0+ds1-2 in stable:

/usr/share/doc/libmockito-java/changelog.Debian.gz
/usr/share/doc/libmockito-java/copyright
/usr/share/java/mockito-core-1.9.0+ds1.jar
/usr/share/java/mockito-core.jar
/usr/share/maven-repo/org/mockito/mockito-core/1.9.0/mockito-core-1.9.0.jar
/usr/share/maven-repo/org/mockito/mockito-core/1.9.0/mockito-core-1.9.0.pom
/usr/share/maven-repo/org/mockito/mockito-core/debian/mockito-core-debian.jar
/usr/share/maven-repo/org/mockito/mockito-core/debian/mockito-core-debian.pom

And there are the files installed by libmockito-java 1.9.0+ds1-2.1 in
testing/unstable:

/usr/share/doc/libmockito-java/changelog.Debian.gz
/usr/share/doc/libmockito-java/copyright
/usr/share/java/mockito-core-1.9.0+ds1.jar
/usr/share/java/mockito-core.jar
/usr/share/maven-repo/org/mockito/mockito-core/1.9.0/mockito-core-1.9.0.pom
/usr/share/maven-repo/org/mockito/mockito-core/debian/mockito-core-debian.pom

The jars are no longer in /usr/share/maven-repo

2013-11-12 Thread Emmanuel Bourg
Control: forwarded -1 https://github.com/apache/maven-wagon/pull/7

I prepared a patch for wagon2, I'll try to get it merged in the next
upstream release. The patch for wagon 1.x should be fairly similar.

Control: forwarded -1 https://github.com/apache/maven-plugin-testing/pull/2
Control: tag -1 patch

This one is easy to fix. We can either remove the MockManager class
which is most certainly never used in Debian or replace MockControl with
IMocksControl.

As I understand dexmaker is only useful for Android. We don't need that
to build the Debian packages, so we can ignore this dependency.

Bug#729300: clirr: Please add a dependency on libasm4-java

2013-11-18 Thread Emmanuel Bourg
Hi Miguel,

clirr doesn't use asm. You are seeing this error because clirr expects
you to specify the classpath of the libraries compared. You can do that
with the -ocp and -ncp command line parameters.

Bug#724497: RM: geronimo-activation-1.1-spec -- ROM; obsolete, no rdeps

2013-09-24 Thread Emmanuel Bourg
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

I'd like to request the removal of geronimo-activation-1.1-spec, this
package provides an implementation of the javax.activation API which
is now a standard part of the JDK. There are no reverse dependencies
left on this package.

Thank you,

Hi Charles,

I packaged the latest version of wss4j:

Do you want to sponsor the upload to complete the adoption?

Bug#725186: [libmetadata-extractor-java] Please, upload 2.6.1 to Debian unstable

2013-10-02 Thread Emmanuel Bourg
Updating libmetadata-extractor-java to 2.6.x will also require an upload
of gpsprune (See #717638).

Also note that josm uses a slightly modified version of
metadata-extractor. They found a regression while migrating to 2.6.4 and
had to patch the code:

I hope gpsprune will build with this new version of

gpsprune breaks with the new version of metadata-extractor. If you can
contact the upstream developers and ask them to upgrade the code that
would be great.

Are you planning to apply this patch to libmetadata-extractor-java
 Debian package?

Yes but I'd like to review the modification and forward it upstream first.
