Bug#639625: libpeas-1.0-0: Invalid naming of peas vapi file
Package: libpeas-1.0-0 Version: 1.1.1-1 Severity: normal The vapi file needs to be the same name as the pkgconfig file. See http://live.gnome.org/Vala/Bindings for details. Bug#643694: Vapi file for libpeas should not be provided by package
Package: libpeas Version: 1.1.1-2 Severity: normal Tags: patch Vala itself now ships a vapi for libpeas. I bumped into an issue where the debain vapi file overwrote the behavior of the vapi file of vala itself. See gnome bug https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=660361 In this bug the vala binding maintainer Luca Bruno states the following: packages except the library and vala shouldn't ship foreign vapis. They should be kept internal to the application. That is, if libpeas decides to ship a vapi is ok, but not others. When now bugs in the libpeas bindings get fixed such will never show up on a debian system as the vapi file of the debian package will always win over the vapi file of the vala package. Bug#668505: Packaging available
Hello Beren, I am a bit confused that you started the packaging of gemrb all over again even though there has been many proposal for sponsorship of a gemrb package. I have tried to find a sponsor a couple of times through many different ways. Unfortunately, I have not been successful so far. Due of lack of time I have not been able to try again in the last couple of months. Therefore I would be great if you could take over and fine a sponsor for this package. I would recommend you though to take the packaging which is already available and go from there. Those packaging should be almost ready and need little adjustment for the new version. See http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~sao/+junk/gemrb/files for the Ubuntu packaging I keep update to date on a regular bases also in my ppa https://launchpad.net/~sao/+archive/ppa. Or also have a look at the last debian packaging I have sent in for proposal http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~sao/+junk/gemrb-debian/files. I hope this helps. Would be really great if you find a way to get this into Debian. Let me know if I can help in any way. Bug#788176: diodon: possible not to depend on zeitgeist?
Tags: wontfix I can understand your concerns, let me outline a couple of things here though: 1. Diodon does work on other DEs but is mainly targeted to integrate well into GNOME and Unity [0] 2. It is true (unfortunately) that Zeitgeist is not actively developed anymore but it is still maintained [1] and you can find commits for bug fixes from this year in the git history [2] 3. In my knowledge there is no other library available with a similar feature set as Zeitgeist. Also Zeitgeist gives us the ability to separate the clipboard history from the Diodon process so any application can access the history independently. There are other important features gained by integrating Zeitgeist which you can read more at [3] and [4]. All in all replacing Zeitgeist would mean to rewrite most of Diodon and hence not really feasible. Therefore marking this bug as wontfix but certainly open for suggestions if there is a similar library out there which could be a potential replacement for Zeitgeist. Cheers, Oliver [0] https://launchpad.net/diodon [1] http://geekyogre.com/moving-on/ [2] http://cgit.freedesktop.org/zeitgeist/zeitgeist/ [3] https://esite.ch/2013/12/storing-clipboard-items-infinitely-test-version/ [4] https://esite.ch/2014/03/clipboard-unity-scope-with-its-full-potential/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#788176: diodon: possible not to depend on zeitgeist?
AFAICS you're also upstream, right? yes 1) Well as you say, it works quite nicely with other DEs, at least those close to GNOME (like Cinnamon). Depending on Zeitgeist more or less excludes these users - maybe not from a technical PoV, but rather because such people typically don't use GNOME for things just like Zeitgeist. IMHO, it's a bit sad to focus such a nice tool only on a few desktop system... I guess as a software project you have to make a decision what the goal is within the limited time and resources available. Do you want to integrate really well with full potential into a subset of DEs or do you want to run with a very small footprint on as many DEs as possible? To do both is as of limited resources not really feasible therefore for Diodon we chose the former. 3) Well I have nothing against using Zeitgeist, but things have worked so fare quite nicely without it, so can't you just make it one optional backend, keeping the previous one as an alternative? Not requiring Zeitgeist has worked before, so why shouldn't it now? The previous backend doesn't work anymore as with Zeitgeist a feature has been added that the clipboard history can be accessed by external services and then a uri opened to paste the content. This is possible as Zeitgeist can be accessed through a DBus service. This feature is already used by services like the Unity Scope but to expanded to more services. Adding another backend would make this integration inconsistent and is therefore not desirable. As for the features: I'm not sure whether e.g. storing clipboard items infinitely is a good idea in all cases, over time this could be quite some privacy issue. (Yes I've seen that you have history clearing). I personally wouldn't need to have anything stored permanently at all,... so maybe as solution could be to store things just in memory, thereby not requiring any storage backend at all? If privacy is your concern it is actually possible to run Zeitgeist in memory only so each time you login your clipboard history is clean. You can do this by setting following env var (e.g. adding it to ~/.pam_environment): ZEITGEIST_DATABASE_PATH=:memory: To summarize: it seems what you are looking for is a clipboard manager with a small footprint with basics function but runs well on all DEs. I think if you want to use Diodon for such a use case an option would be if a maintainer could be found who continues to maintain Diodon version 1.0.3. I am happy to support something like this but do not have the time to maintain it myself. Bug#936399: diodon: Python2 removal in sid/bullseye
Thanks for trying. Currently an outdated version of waf is used maybe that explains why it doesn't run with python3. I will see when I get around to update waf upstream and repackage a new Diodon version. Oliver On 18.09.19 06:21, Scott Kitterman wrote: This turns out to be more complicated than I had expected. Internally waf uses /usr/bin/env python (which still, of course, is /usr/bin/python vice python3), so it fails with python3 even though the upstream code appears to at least in part consider python3. Bug#936399: diodon: Python2 removal in sid/bullseye
Just an update on the current progress of this issue. Updating of waf seems to be more complicated and breaks the current build. Instead of trying to fix those errors an upstream PR is work in progress to move to meson build system as many GNOME projects do as well. See https://github.com/diodon-dev/diodon/pull/12 It is not quite finished yet and any help would be appreciated especially on changing the debian files to use meson instead of waf. Oliver

Bug#977586: diodon: list of clipboard items not updating (database or disk is full)
I assume the sqlite database got corrupted or is too big. There is an article here [0] which describes why this could happen. Diodon uses Zeitgeist to store clipboard items and zeitgeist manages the sqlite database itself. So you find the database at ~/.local/share/zeitgeist/. Best have a look what size the database has in this folder to see whether that is the issue. Simply renaming/removing the zeitgeist folder should fix the issue. (I guess you need to stop/kill the zeitgeist-daemon first though) Oliver [0] https://stackoverflow.com/questions/5274202/sqlite3-database-or-disk-is-full-the-database-disk-image-is-malformed
Bug#990435: diodon: /etc/apport/ needed?
Hi Chris, Thanks for reporting this. This file is actually obsolete and was only needed when Diodon was only available on Launchpad before publishing it to Debian and synced to Ubuntu from there. See here [0] for more information. This file should indeed be removed from the Debian package. Bug#990137: diodon: legacy conffiles leftover
Hi Chris Thanks for your report. Actually this was an unnoticed rename of /etc/xdg/autostart/diodon.desktop to /etc/xdg/autostart/diodon-autostart.desktop when Diodon moved to the Meson Build system. I guess using the `dh_installdeb` with a `diodon.mainscript` file will be the easiest as per [0] Oliver [0] https://manpages.debian.org/buster/debhelper/dh_installdeb.1.en.html
Bug#788176: diodon logs copious sensitive information to zeitgeist and does not clear it
Thanks Sam for reporting this. This is actually not fully related to the original report of this issue as it is a bug that `Clear` method does not completely remove clipboard content from the Zeitgeist database as I agree it really should. As discussed on the upstream issue [0] I will look into this and will track the progress there. [0] https://bugs.launchpad.net/diodon/+bug/1921507
Bug#997655: diodon: FTBFS: autoreconf: error: configure.in: AC_INIT not found; not an autoconf script?
Lucas, Thanks for reporting. This issue has actually been resolved upstream but it seems that I uploaded an invalid orig tarball for version 1.11.1 for the Debian package. Instead of the new upstream tarball 1.11.1, 1.11.0 was still used (when opening the tarball from [0] the folder name is still 1.11.0). Not so sure how this happened. Upstream tarball [1] is correct though. Do you know a way to fix the invalid orig tarball without a new release upstream? Oliver [0] http://deb.debian.org/debian/pool/main/d/diodon/diodon_1.11.1.orig.tar.xz [1] https://launchpad.net/diodon/trunk/1.11.1/+download/diodon-1.11.1.tar.xz
Bug#997655: diodon: FTBFS: autoreconf: error: configure.in: AC_INIT not found; not an autoconf script?
Never mind. Because of custom-library-search-path error [0] there needs to be a new upstream version anyway and with that new release this build error can then be fixed as well. Oliver [0] https://lintian.debian.org/tags/custom-library-search-path

Bug#1005993: Add additional command line options
Diodon is a desktop utility and not a command line tool. So far the only two things you can do from the command line is to open diodon or to open it in debug mode by setting `G_MESSAGES_DEBUG` to `all`. Both those options are documented in the man page. It would be great to have more options but need to be added first. There is also a upstream issue reported for this at https://bugs.launchpad.net/diodon/+bug/1309898 Oliver
