Bug#375956: listchanges doesn't work

2006-12-09 Thread Patrick Matthäi

Hi,

apt-listchanges doesn't work with sid. I'm using version 2.72.
apt-listchanges --apt package is a neverending story without any output.
apt-listchanges file.deb says me, that he reads out the changelog and
then, that is done, but not more.

(german output):
the-me:~# apt-listchanges
/var/cache/apt/archives/xchat-common_2.6.8-0.3_all.deb

Lese Changelogs... Fertig
the-me:~#

This is only one example.

Bug#386597: Broken package

2006-09-08 Thread Patrick Matthäi

Package: udev
Version: 0.100-1

Hi,
After I upgraded up to udev 0.100, again nothing worked, no modules
loaded etc. Then I tried to remove it and install the old good working
version 0.098-2, but I couldn't install it, because of rules / mount
problems etc.

I haven't got all the errors, but this:
http://www.linux-development.org/bugs/udev
The only way to rescue my system was, to install the old udev version
about a suse rescue system!

2006-09-10 Thread Patrick Matthäi

Package: linux-image-2.6.17-2-k7
Version: 2.6.17-8

Hello,
Could you maybe add the kernelmodul 'kqemu' into the current
linux-image? In my opinion, it were a good decision, because qemu is in
the repository and with that modul, it will run better.

Or maybe as a seperate package.

Patrick.

Bug#396440: Wrong style at the tabbar

Package: firefox
Version: 1.99+2.0b2+dfsg-1

I'm using ( how you can see on the screenshots ) a grey style for KDE.
In Firefox 1.5, the tabbar gets the right color, but at firefox 2.0,
it's always white, what looks very ugly.

Could you maybe patch this bar, that it will get the right color?

Bug#497197: Please remove tmw{-music} from testing

2008-08-30 Thread Patrick Matthäi
Package: ftp.debian.org

Hello,

I'm the maintainer of the tmw{-music} source packages.

Please remove the following packages:

* tmw (0.0.24.1+svn4436-1)
* tmw-music (0.2-1)

But please only remove it from testing so that it will not be shipped with
Debian Lenny.

Reason:
I'm in the current situation of the package unable to support it for the next
Debian stable version and I won't deliver a half working package to the
community.

I plan to backport it after Lenny is released for the stable users.

Thanks.

Hello,

thanks for your hint, but I'm sure that the patch is wrong:
A parellel installation of libguichan-0.8.1-1* with libguichan2 works.
What not works is a mix between the libguichan{0,1,2} versions and they
are still conflicting against each other.

The problem here is, that some conflicts at the new libguichan-dev
packages are missing, not at the libs itself.

I'll fix it tomorrow.

Bug#496138: xdg-open does not exit if the called applications has been closed

2008-08-22 Thread Patrick Matthäi
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: xdg-utils
Version: 1.0.2-6
Severity: normal

Hello,

I noticed that all xdg-open processes do not exit if the called
application dies/has been closed.

This is easy to reproduce:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ /bin/sh /usr/bin/xdg-open http://www.debian.org
kfmclient(5959) ClientApp::doIt: Creating ClientApp
unknown program name(5961)/ ClientApp::doIt: Creating ClientApp
kioclient(5961) ClientApp::kde_open: KUrl(http://www.debian.org;)

If I close now iceweasel, the process runs as long until I kill it.
After some longer X11 session, this appears in a few hundred useless
processes ;)

I setted up iceweasel as default browser in KDE 4.1.

While I never saw this behaviour in the past I think this bug is more
kdebase-runtime dependend (Version: 4:4.1.0-2) - but now I just habe KDE
4.1 desktops and can't test it with other enviroments, so please feel
free to test and reassign it!

So on I also CC the debian-qt-kde list.

Thanks in advance.

Bug#461797: Documentation seems to be installed in the wrong place

2008-01-21 Thread Patrick Matthäi

Enrico Zini schrieb:

Package: fraqtive
Version: 0.3.1-1

Hello,

thanks for packaging fraqtive.

I was trying to get a little of documentation, for basic things like
navigation keys and how does the 3d mode works, and I noticed what could
be some problems with the documentation:

  # dpkg -L fraqtive | grep doc
  /usr/share/doc
  /usr/share/doc/HTML
  /usr/share/doc/HTML/de
  /usr/share/doc/HTML/de/fraqtive
  /usr/share/doc/HTML/de/fraqtive/index.cache.bz2
  /usr/share/doc/HTML/de/fraqtive/index.docbook.gz
  /usr/share/doc/HTML/en
  /usr/share/doc/HTML/en/fraqtive
  /usr/share/doc/HTML/en/fraqtive/index.cache.bz2
  /usr/share/doc/HTML/en/fraqtive/index.docbook.gz
  /usr/share/doc/fraqtive
  /usr/share/doc/fraqtive/changelog.gz
  /usr/share/doc/fraqtive/changelog.Debian.gz
  /usr/share/doc/fraqtive/NEWS.gz
  /usr/share/doc/fraqtive/TODO
  /usr/share/doc/fraqtive/copyright

I suspect the documentation wanted to be installed in
/usr/share/doc/fraqtive/HTML instead of /usr/share/doc/HTML, and that
index.cache.bz2 should instead be something like index.html.

Besides, if I read the .cache files as if they were HTML, I notice that
the links in the file point to nonexisting files.

Doing Help/Fraqtive Handbook in Fraqtive summons khelpcenter that says
There is no documentation available for /fraqtive/index.html..

Hello and thanks for your report.
You're right, the path is wrong for the documentation.
The right one would be /usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/LANG/PACKAGE/ for it.

But the name and compression of the index.docbook.gz and index.cache.bz2
are correct.

Bug#459414: sshm - binary in package is not rebuilt

2008-01-06 Thread Patrick Matthäi

Severity: normal

Hello Bastian,

sshm is building correctly. The point you have pasted is just a not
needed one, I've just got two calls of build in my debian/rules, so
the correct binary gets installed.

I will remove the second call of build with the next build / release,
I think it is not an serious issue, just a cosmetic one :)

But much thanks for your hint.

2007-11-29 Thread Patrick Matthäi

Hello,

I won't fix this request, because you should use dpkg-reconfigure to
modify your timezone, for example with:

`dpkg-reconfigure tzdata'.

Please don't be worry but your feature isn't as easy to code how you
think, because most time people are sitting behind a router or going
into the internet through an OpenVPN server, so their interface IP isn't
their WAN IP and so you can't get, without using of services like

Bug#453833:

2007-12-01 Thread Patrick Matthäi

Hello,

first, thanks for your report.

I think you dismissed something in your report.
If I would split the the geoip.dat in a new package, it wouldn't change
anything. Because the source package of it would be the same and I've to
update all geopip packages.

Please note, that the last maintainer and Debian developer has gone
inactive and so one the whole package was completly unmaintained.

I will try to publish as fast as possible for me and the QA every new
upstream version, so that the package is actual.

So I will close this report, but thanks.
I hope I could help you :)

Bug#457366: debian/copyright is wrong

2007-12-21 Thread Patrick Matthäi

Package: cacti
Version: 0.8.7a-1
Severity: serious

Hello,

1) cacti is explicit GPLv2 only, but your debian/copyright points to
/usr/share/common-licenses/GPL, which is an symlink to the GPLv3+.. It
should be replaced with /usr/share/common-licenses/GPL-2.

2) You should add a Copyright: line to your debian/copyright, like:
   Copyright: 2004-2007 The Cacti Group
3) You only listed there the licenses of the cacti stuff itself. But for
example the stuff in lib/adodb has another license with another upstream
author!
You may have to recheck all files included in the tarball and list them
in debian/copyright.

option no longer works on stopping them.

For example:
network-manager
dhcbd
dbus

All these three (and I think that are even more packages) using the
--retry option in stopping their daemons. They are stopping but the init
script won't exit so that an simple restart will fail or the computer
won't halt correctly.

It's not completly unable to package. The last problem we saw is the
linking against the GPL licensed libwhich, which should be solved in the
next release.

Please do in the future more work on the licenses of the packages.

Bug#452111: git-core provides an existing file - uninstallable package

2007-11-20 Thread Patrick Matthäi

Package: git-core

I tried today to install the newest git-core package 1:1.5.3.6-1.

Preparing to replace git-core 1:1.5.3.5-1 (using
.../git-core_1%3a1.5.3.6-1_i386.deb) ...

Unpacking replacement git-core ...
dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/git-core_1%3a1.5.3.6-1_i386.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/usr/share/perl5/Error.pm', which is also in

/var/cache/apt/archives/git-core_1%3a1.5.3.6-1_i386.deb

How you see, the perl module /usr/share/perl5/Error.pm is provided by
the package liberror-perl.

I think the best suggestion to remove this conflict is, that you remove
the perl module Error.pm from the git-core package and set a depends on
the package liberror-perl.

Bug#454348: m-a creates a package which is already in the deb pool - conflicting package names

2007-12-04 Thread Patrick Matthäi

Package: virtualbox-ose-source
Version: 1.5.2-dfsg2-3
Severity: grave

Hello,

currently in the sid main pool exists a package named for example
virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-3-k7 which contains the following data:

gnu:~# dpkg -L virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-3-k7
/.
/usr
/usr/share
/usr/share/doc
/usr/share/doc/virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-3-k7
/usr/share/doc/virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-3-k7/changelog.Debian.gz
/usr/share/doc/virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-3-k7/copyright
/lib
/lib/modules
/lib/modules/2.6.22-3-k7
/lib/modules/2.6.22-3-k7/extra
/lib/modules/2.6.22-3-k7/extra/virtualbox-ose
/lib/modules/2.6.22-3-k7/extra/virtualbox-ose/virtualbox-ose.ko

On the other side, I've to create with modul-assistent the vboxdrv
kernel modul, so I had installed virtualbox-ose-source. Then I have to
create the module for example with:

# m-a a-i virtualbox-ose

This creates a package called virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-3-k7, too!
The content of the package differs from the one of the repository:

gnu:~# dpkg -L virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-3-k7
/.
/usr
/usr/share
/usr/share/doc
/usr/share/doc/virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-3-k7
/usr/share/doc/virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-3-k7/changelog.Debian.gz
/usr/share/doc/virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-3-k7/copyright
/lib
/lib/modules
/lib/modules/2.6.22-3-k7
/lib/modules/2.6.22-3-k7/misc
/lib/modules/2.6.22-3-k7/misc/vboxdrv.ko

So in the package created from m-a is my vboxdrv kernel module, which is
needed for virtualbox.

The version of the m-a created package is: 1.5.2-dfsg2-3+2
The one of the Debian main pool is: 2.6.22+1.5.2-dfsg2-9

So every time I had successful installed the kernel module package, apt
upgrade will replace the package with the one from the main pool, where
the kernel module is missing and so on I can't use virtualbox.

Guess it would not be too hard to remove the GeoIP.dat from libgeoip1.
Due to the fact that Maxmind provides monthly updates of its databases
it might be a solution to have an alternative geoipupdate executable
which downloads the database(s) from maxmind.com at install time and per
cron.

Hello,

yes I've reviewed the old 1.3.x version and the actual 1.4.3-1.
In a few .c files at the librarys source code I've found for Debian
illegal copyright statements.

In the 1.4.3 release, it is only available in the GeoIP.dat.

First I will write an email to the maxmind, maybe they can correct this
for the next release, then we shouldn't have any license problemes
anymore :)

Your package fails to build with GCC 4.3. Version 4.3 has not been
released yet but I'm building with a snapshot in order to find errors
and give people an advance warning. In GCC 4.3, the C++ header
dependencies have been cleaned up. The advantage of this is that
programs will compile faster. The downside is that you actually
need to directly #include everything you use (but you really should
do this anyway, otherwise your program won't work with any compiler
other than GCC). There's some more information about this at
http://www.cyrius.com/journal/2007/05/10#gcc-4.3-include

You can reproduce this problem with gcc-snapshot from unstable. Note
that Red Hat, Novell and Ubuntu have done some work getting packages
to build with GCC 4.3 so there might be patches floating around
somewhere. I suggest you talk to your upstream.

Bug#438874: icedove brakes lightning addon

2007-08-20 Thread Patrick Matthäi

Package: icedove
Version: 2.0.0.4.dfsg1-1
Severity: serious

Hello,
I tried to install Mozilla Lightning on my icedove. After I restart
icedove, lightning has been integrated well into iceweasel, but it's not
working. I can't create a new calender or add any entries (without any
errormessages).
For example the Next (Weiter) button at building a new calender
doesn't work.

Why I think it's icedove related:
I tried out with the same configuration files etc. and a mozilla branded
thunderbird this plugin and it's working well.
I created with thunderbird a new calender and switched back to icedove,
but it doesn't show me the new calender.

I'm using Debian Sid on x86.

Bug#428186: Consider offering only a dev version.

2007-10-14 Thread Patrick Matthäi

Severity: normal

Brandon wrotes:

You might want to consider only offering a dev version of guichan, and
require that packages using guichan link statically. This is
recommended by the debian policy manual in certain cases, such as for
libraries whose interfaces are in flux or under development.
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-sharedlibs.html#s-sharedlibs-static

Guichan upstream recommends that every project that uses guichan
includes the source files manually in their project. I think the end
effect is the same thing as linking statically. Although with this
solution, there would be no libguichan* or libguichan-dev package.
http://guichan.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Getting_started

-Brandon

Hello,

bumping SONAMES is a good thing for often needed packages and if
upstream provides SONAME support, I will include it.
The current solution (with conflicts) is okay. So I set the severity of
this bug to 'normal' and I will close it if upstream (and after that
this package) provides the support.

That is good.

The current solution (with conflicts) is okay.

No, it is not. You break every package that depends on guichan every
time you upgrade. Fixing this is too much to ask of those maintainers.
You have forced balder2d and sear out of testing.

I have asked debian mentors about this last month. I sent you a link to
the thread archive a while ago. Here it is again, in case you didn't
get around to reading it:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/2007/09/msg00223.html
They recommended that bugs such as this be kept as serious or grave.

I think the best way to fix this would be to only include a static
library. It is sort of like washing your hands of the issue. I would
also recommend not upgrading the version more than once a year, unless
a new upstream version fixes a glaring bug.

If compiling statically, depending packages will still break when the
API changes, and it has changed before. I am not sure how acceptable
this is. You could fix it by following upstream's recommendation, which
would equate to not having a guichan package at all. Depending programs
would instead include the guichan source.

If you need advice on what to do next, I recommend writing to the
debian-mentors mailing list. You can learn more here:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/

-Brandon

Good morning,

please stop now changing every hour the severity, that's kind of playing
and stops us from work.

If you read for what is the testing and unstable pool, then you would
know, that such kind of things are OK, because we don't break anything
with the new package names and if a author doesn't upgrade his package
after some weeks, then it is his problem.
Michael Koch (sear maintainer) is my sponsor (he's a DD) and he knows
exactly every upgrade and in his opinion it's the best solution for guichan.
If you want a very clear pool, stop using testing and unstable and use
Debian Stable (Etch).

Bug#435065: tmw: not installable, missing dep libguichan0

2007-07-29 Thread Patrick Matthäi

Hello Bjoern,

guichan is still available but I had to bump the dropped symbols, so the
new package calls libguichan1. But today I'll upload new updates for tmw
and libguichan (libguichan2) then the problem is solved.

Regards,
   Patrick Matthäi

Package: tmw
Version: 0.0.23-1+b1
Severity: important

I was just cleaning up my installed packages and noticed a missing
dependency on tmw. Neither libguichan0 nor libguichan0-dev (source-dep)
are available on sid anymore. So this package won't build or install.
