Bug#453833:
Hello, first, thanks for your report. I think you dismissed something in your report. If I would split the the geoip.dat in a new package, it wouldn't change anything. Because the source package of it would be the same and I've to update all geopip packages. Please note, that the last maintainer and Debian developer has gone inactive and so one the whole package was completly unmaintained. I will try to publish as fast as possible for me and the QA every new upstream version, so that the package is actual. So I will close this report, but thanks. I hope I could help you :) -- Mit freundlichem Gruß / With kind regards, Patrick Matthäi E-Mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Homepage: http://www.Linux-Dev.org/

Bug#457366: debian/copyright is wrong
Package: cacti Version: 0.8.7a-1 Severity: serious Hello, 1) cacti is explicit GPLv2 only, but your debian/copyright points to /usr/share/common-licenses/GPL, which is an symlink to the GPLv3+.. It should be replaced with /usr/share/common-licenses/GPL-2. 2) You should add a Copyright: line to your debian/copyright, like: Copyright: 2004-2007 The Cacti Group 3) You only listed there the licenses of the cacti stuff itself. Bug#454348: m-a creates a package which is already in the deb pool - conflicting package names
Package: virtualbox-ose-source Version: 1.5.2-dfsg2-3 Severity: grave Hello, currently in the sid main pool exists a package named for example virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-3-k7 which contains the following data: gnu:~# dpkg -L virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-3-k7 /. /usr /usr/share /usr/share/doc /usr/share/doc/virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-3-k7 /usr/share/doc/virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-3-k7/changelog.Debian.gz /usr/share/doc/virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-3-k7/copyright /lib /lib/modules /lib/modules/2.6.22-3-k7 /lib/modules/2.6.22-3-k7/extra /lib/modules/2.6.22-3-k7/extra/virtualbox-ose /lib/modules/2.6.22-3-k7/extra/virtualbox-ose/virtualbox-ose.ko On the other side, I've to create with modul-assistent the vboxdrv kernel modul, so I had installed virtualbox-ose-source. Then I have to create the module for example with: # m-a a-i virtualbox-ose This creates a package called virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-3-k7, too! The content of the package differs from the one of the repository: gnu:~# dpkg -L virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-3-k7 /. /usr /usr/share /usr/share/doc /usr/share/doc/virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-3-k7 /usr/share/doc/virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-3-k7/changelog.Debian.gz /usr/share/doc/virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-3-k7/copyright /lib /lib/modules /lib/modules/2.6.22-3-k7 /lib/modules/2.6.22-3-k7/misc /lib/modules/2.6.22-3-k7/misc/vboxdrv.ko So in the package created from m-a is my vboxdrv kernel module, which is needed for virtualbox. The version of the m-a created package is: 1.5.2-dfsg2-3+2 The one of the Debian main pool is: 2.6.22+1.5.2-dfsg2-9 So every time I had successful installed the kernel module package, apt upgrade will replace the package with the one from the main pool, where the kernel module is missing and so on I can't use virtualbox. -- Mit freundlichem Gruß / With kind regards, Patrick Matthäi E-Mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Homepage: http://www.Linux-Dev.org/

Bug#428186: Consider offering only a dev version.
Severity: normal Brandon wrotes: You might want to consider only offering a dev version of guichan, and require that packages using guichan link statically. This is recommended by the debian policy manual in certain cases, such as for libraries whose interfaces are in flux or under development. http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-sharedlibs.html#s-sharedlibs-static Guichan upstream recommends that every project that uses guichan includes the source files manually in their project. I think the end effect is the same thing as linking statically. Although with this solution, there would be no libguichan* or libguichan-dev package. http://guichan.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Getting_started -Brandon Hello, bumping SONAMES is a good thing for often needed packages and if upstream provides SONAME support, I will include it. The current solution (with conflicts) is okay. So I set the severity of this bug to 'normal' and I will close it if upstream (and after that this package) provides the support. -- Mit freundlichem Gruß / With kind regards, Patrick Matthäi E-Mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Homepage: http://www.Linux-Dev.org/ begin:vcard fn;quoted-printable:Patrick Matth=C3=A4i n;quoted-printable:Matth=C3=A4i;Patrick org:Ameus IT-Systeme;Technik adr:;;Technologiepark 21;Paderborn;Nordrhein-Westfalen;33100;Deutschland email;internet:[EMAIL PROTECTED] x-mozilla-html:TRUE url:http://www.ameus.de/ version:2.1 end:vcard
Bug#428186: Breaking packages is not ok.
Brandon schrieb: Severity: serious Justification: makes package unusable (by its dependencies) bumping SONAMES is a good thing for often needed packages and if upstream provides SONAME support, I will include it. That is good. The current solution (with conflicts) is okay. No, it is not. You break every package that depends on guichan every time you upgrade. Fixing this is too much to ask of those maintainers. You have forced balder2d and sear out of testing. I have asked debian mentors about this last month. I sent you a link to the thread archive a while ago. Here it is again, in case you didn't get around to reading it: http://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/2007/09/msg00223.html They recommended that bugs such as this be kept as serious or grave. I think the best way to fix this would be to only include a static library. It is sort of like washing your hands of the issue. I would also recommend not upgrading the version more than once a year, unless a new upstream version fixes a glaring bug. If compiling statically, depending packages will still break when the API changes, and it has changed before. I am not sure how acceptable this is. You could fix it by following upstream's recommendation, which would equate to not having a guichan package at all. Depending programs would instead include the guichan source. If you need advice on what to do next, I recommend writing to the debian-mentors mailing list. You can learn more here: http://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/ -Brandon Good morning, please stop now changing every hour the severity, that's kind of playing and stops us from work. If you read for what is the testing and unstable pool, then you would know, that such kind of things are OK, because we don't break anything with the new package names and if a author doesn't upgrade his package after some weeks, then it is his problem. Michael Koch (sear maintainer) is my sponsor (he's a DD) and he knows exactly every upgrade and in his opinion it's the best solution for guichan. If you want a very clear pool, stop using testing and unstable and use Debian Stable (Etch). -- Mit freundlichem Gruß / With kind regards, Patrick Matthäi E-Mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Homepage: http://www.Linux-Dev.org/ begin:vcard fn;quoted-printable:Patrick Matth=C3=A4i n;quoted-printable:Matth=C3=A4i;Patrick org:Ameus IT-Systeme;Technik adr:;;Technologiepark 21;Paderborn;Nordrhein-Westfalen;33100;Deutschland email;internet:[EMAIL PROTECTED] x-mozilla-html:TRUE url:http://www.ameus.de/ version:2.1 end:vcard

Bug#435065: tmw: not installable, missing dep libguichan0
