Are you sure you mean hicolor-icon-theme? I upgraded the theme myself,
and I'm not experiencing any bug with it.

 Could you please run:
 dpkg -L hicolor-icon-theme | wc -l
and:
 debsums hicolor-icon-theme

That should check the integrity of your package.

If you can do so, please check if creating a new user on your system
 and selecting this theme works.

   Thanks,

Bug#295817: turck-mmcache: is not loaded - config files are wrong

2005-02-18 Thread Raphael Fairise
Package: turck-mmcache
Version: 2.4.6-9
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hello !
3 problems with newest package:
- postinst script tests and writes wrong mmcache.so paths
  It writes /usr/lib/php4/20020429/mmcache.so instead of
  /usr/lib/php4/20020429-zts/mmcache.so
= it should be based on /usr/bin/php-config --extension-dir as
written in a comment at the beginning.

- even with the correct path, zend_extension option doesn't work at all.
I changed it to a simple PHP extension i.e. extension=mmcache.so,
and it works. And now, no more problem with the real path of the .so file.
(so, first problem also gone away :-)

- postinst writes config in /etc/php4/apache and
/etc/php4/cgi but it exists also client line PHP which uses
/etc/php4/cli (not cgi) and apache2 which uses /etc/php4/apache2.

(I think you should really write a separate file -or a variable?-
with mmcache config lines to append it easily to all /etc/php4 config files)

And obviously, many thanks for the work!

Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1.1.3-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Writer crashes in the style edit dialog. How to reproduce:
1) start oowriter
2) select any style in the stylist, right-click, select 'modify'
   from drop-down menu
3) Use left mouse button to click on any tab in the dialog. writer crashes.

Because I can't modify any style in any document, I consider this bug as
rendering writer unusable.
libc version is 2.3.2.ds1-18

I already reported this bug. It has been fixed once and then seems to
have reappeared. This makes Impress almost unusable because you cannot
change the color of a single word (it loose the word selection as soon as
pointer is on the color selection window).

I'm fade up with maintainers introducing bugs because the binary
official package does work as expected.

impress crashes when in an empty presentation, with a layout including a

it saves all data correctly, but you cannot compose any document at all

2005-02-18 Thread Bill Allombert
Package: slirp
Version: 1.0.16-1
Severity: grave

Hello Roberto,
I use slirp with user-mode-linux.
Using the same user-mode-linux build and the same filesystem,
I get no networking with 1.0.16-1, whereas everything is fine
if I downgrade to 1.0.14-4.

Cheers,
Bill.

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

E: Broken packages

Please let me know if there is a workaround.
The package libgtkada2-0 version 2.4.0-1 is installed.

 contained in /usr/share/doc/bluez-firmware/BCM-LEGAL.txt accompanies
 the firmware.

This arrangement was made with BlueZ author Max Krasnyansky
 [EMAIL PROTECTED].

This raises many issues:

* Since bluez-bcm203x seems to exist only to load this non-free
firmware, it should have a Depends: bluez-firmware rather than
Suggests: bluez-firmware.

* For the same reason, the bluez-bcm203x package should be moved to contrib.

* The indicated grant of permission to distribute requires that the
distribution be in conjunction with the BlueZ GPLd tools, available in
Debian as bluez-utils. Given that non-free isn't part of Debian, it
seems difficult to argue that the bluez-firmware package in non-free is
being distributed in conjunction with the blues-utils package in main,
or even a bluez-bcm203x package in contrib.

After upgrading from 1.2.6-6 to 1.2.6-7 vdr restarts itself before it can do

Reverting to 1.2.6-6 fixes the problem.

Bug#295843: Installing libarts1-xine turns off the sound

2005-02-18 Thread Riku Voipio
Hi,

I'm not really convinced this is a serious bug, but rather an
configuration error, since libarts1-xine is installed by a very
large user base (including me) via kdemultimedia metapackage, and
nobody else has complained so far...

On Fri, Feb 18, 2005 at 09:40:25AM -0500, Slaven wrote:

Are you sure it doesn't just fiddle with your mixer settings?

information that may be relevant to this problem. I have Ensoniq 1731

For starters, are you using alsa or oss. And what have selected
as output device in kcontrol. Do the mixer setting (using alsamixer)
look different when using a libarts1-xine session than a working
session?

Does sound work in normal xine? what are your xine settings? does
running artsd on command line result any errors? Any sound-related
errors in ~/.xession-errors ? Those questions for starters atleast.

Bug#294895: Patch for a2ps

2005-02-18 Thread Frank Küster
Richard Lewis [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

 When doing a apt-get dist-upgrade (from version 1:4.13b-4)
 I got the following error

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of a2ps:

Package emacsen-common is not configured yet.
dpkg: error processing a2ps (--configure):

 re-running apt-get dist-upgrade fixed things.
 emacsen-common was upgraded from 1.4.15 - 1.4.16

Richard, do you remember any error messages prior to this? The most
likely cause for this error is that dpkg tried to configure
emacsen-common first (as dictated by the declared dependencies), but
failed for some reason.

Rodrigo Tadeu Claro [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

I am sending patch for its package. I wait that this decides the BUG and
that this package is in sarge. The archive control was modified by
understanding that in this case pre-depends cannot be applied. I made
the installation and removal of the package and got success.

Success only because you accidently had emacsen-common installed. It is
used in a2ps' postinst script, and therefore it must be installed and set
up before this postinst script is run.

Therefore a2ps needs a Depends: emacsen-common. But in fact there is
no need for a Pre-depends - it doesn't even have a preinst file, and I
have no idea how it could hamper the ability of the system to continue
with any upgrade, as Policy says.

Thanks to offer your help, some people attempted to find out what is
wrong, but the developers which were willing to track this down have
higher priority tasks now and won't debug this further until tomorrow.

If you know how to debug this, feel free to join #gnome-debian on

Bug#275668: Suggest to remove from Sarge

2005-02-18 Thread Adam C Powell IV
Hello Helge,

I apologize for the delay in getting to this bug. Two things have been
holding up a fix to this. First, four of my five alpha machines are
currently inoperable, so I'm having a hard time maintaining these
packages.

Second, I have been awaiting a reply from Compaq/HP contacts on
whether/when we might get permission to distribute the libraries with
the Debian packages (putting them in non-free), and the encrypted
compilers too, removing the need to download either one. Since it's
been several months now, and I've bugged them a couple of times, I think
it's time to give up on pursuing that.

I'll see if I have time to upload a fix in the next week or two, and if
not, will concur with your recommendation to remove these packages.

On Sat, 2005-02-12 at 16:10 +0100, Helge Kreutzmann wrote:
 Hello,
given that this package is currently not able to install the non-free ccc
compiler, that gcc is available and improving while ccc is essentially
dead upstream and that the number of people doing serious number crunching
on alpha is (unfortunately) strongly decreasing I suggest removing
this package from sarge. Further the maintainer has not yet even
 acknowledged this bug (MIA?).

If you (the maintainer) already have a fix in your pipeline, please
upload it ASAP (and in the meantime, tag this bug pending).

 Greetings

 Helge

Thanks to offer your help, some people attempted to find out what is
wrong, but the developers which were willing to track this down have
higher priority tasks now and won't debug this further until tomorrow.

Ok, no harm with the workaround :)

If you know how to debug this, feel free to join #gnome-debian on
  irc.gimp.org (gimpnet), I don't have a PPC Debian myself.

Ok, i think i can't debug this problem alone, but i will look at the
evening in #gnome-debian and offer my help to test or look forward.

Since I don't have a copy of the original security patch, I tried to

latest unstable version. The changes to network.c and typespeed.c apply
cleanly, but the changes to file.c don't. I'm working on resolving those

Oh. I have to apologise since apparently I sent my mail to the wrong
address. apt-cache show displayed two versions of typespeed and I
didn't check the version number when extracting the maintainer address.
I usually contact sid maintainers before releasing an advisory.

Ah, that explains why the first I heard of it was the mail to
debian-security-announce. ;)

Not to worry. :)

Bug#295815: Wrong package?

2005-02-18 Thread Michel Dänzer

The generated icon-theme.cache files seem to be identical on x86 and
powerpc machines (which makes a lot of sense), but they only work on the
former. So the bug might actually be in the code that deals with the
cache files in the GTK library itself?

Package: bidwatcher
Vulnerability : format string
Problem-Type : remote
Debian-specific: no
CVE ID : CAN-2005-0158

Ulf Härnhammar from the Debian Security Audit Project discovered a
format string vulnerability in bidwatcher, a tool for watching and
bidding on eBay auctions. This problem can be triggered remotely by a
web server of eBay, or someone pretending to be eBay, sending certain
data back. As of version 1.3.17 the program uses cURL and is not
vulnerable anymore.

For the stable distribution (woody) this problem has been fixed in
version 1.3.3-1woody1.

For the unstable distribution (sid) this problem will be fixed soon.

We recommend that you upgrade your bidwatcher package.

Hi Stephen,

Please see bug #295175. gv build-depends on xaw3dg-dev, which depends on

need to clean up your buildd chroot as a result of the xfree86-common

Bug#295774: daapd to become non-free(?)

2005-02-18 Thread Michael A. Dickerson
I would much rather have the daapd package follow libhowl and
mdnsresponder to non-free, if that is really necessary, than leave it in
main with the zeroconf support hacked out. I know it is technically
possible to run daapd and publish the service yourself without zeroconf,
but it's far less useful that way. But, I am not a Debian developer yet
and I don't know how to do this. Should I just ask my sponsor to upload
the next revision to non-free?

Thanks..

Bug#295894: hf: FTBFS: Old config.guess/config.sub files.

2005-02-18 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Package: hf
Version: 0.7.1-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

The new version of config.guess and config.sub you're using are
rather out of date, they're from 1999. Previous version of the
package just continued working after it complained that it
didn't know the arch but now with the new autoconf version it
just fails.

I attached a patch with gets the latest version from the
autotools-dev package at build time, so it should always have a
version for the arch it's building on.

infinity asuffield : You're welcome to file the bug. Something
along the lines of testing before uploading is nice would be good.

Yes, sorry for that. I'm very short of time ATM and apparently my testing was
not accurate. Maybe in the future it would be a good idea to warn maintainers
_before_ breaking their packages knowingly, to give them some time to detect
problems.

I tried to debug the segfault myself today, but with little result.
I also tried to contact the upstream-author, but did not get an answer so far.
ATM I'm not sure, if I can fix that problem in the near future.

think there's any reason to consider this bug grave.

A security issue affects the following Ubuntu releases:

Ubuntu 4.10 (Warty Warthog)

The following packages are affected:

libapache2-mod-python2.2
libapache2-mod-python2.3

The problem can be corrected by upgrading the affected package to
version 3.1.3-1ubuntu3.2. After a standard system upgrade you need to
restart the Apache 2 web server using

  sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

to effect the necessary changes.

Details follow:

Graham Dumpleton discovered an information disclosure in the
publisher handle of mod_python. By requesting a carefully crafted
URL for a published module page, anybody can obtain extra information
about internal variables, objects, and other information which is not
intended to be visible.

Bug#295914: tvtime: seems to include undistributable code

2005-02-18 Thread Francesco Poli
Package: tvtime

Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.3

The package copyright file states, in part:

This is a copyright notice with a disclaimer of warranty, but no license at
all! All rights reserved.
Where's the permission to distribute?

This seems to be not only non-free, but even undistributable! :-(

MPEG Software Simulation Group should be contacted and asked for a DFSG-free
license to this code.
Otherwise, the code should be replaced with a DFSG-free implementation of
the same (or similar) algorithms.

As an aside, note that the copyright file seems to include large duplicated
parts: at around half length, it starts over again with
This package was debianized by ...
and goes on restating lots of already quoted copyright notices (though the
two halves are not identical...).

 HIPE=--disable-hipe

Based on this, unless someone can come up with a real fix, disabling

Package: bidwatcher
Vulnerability : format string
Problem-Type : remote
Debian-specific: no
CVE ID : CAN-2005-0158

Ulf H=E4rnhammar from the Debian Security Audit Project discovered a
format string vulnerability in bidwatcher, a tool for watching and
bidding on eBay auctions.

Bug#295010: NMU patch for aspell-fi

2005-02-18 Thread Brian Nelson
Here's my NMU patch of to rebuild aspell-fi for Aspell 0.60. Note that
I changed the aspell-fi Arch: field to any, since compiled Aspell
dictionaries are not arch-independent.

Also, installdeb-myspell uses debhelper, so you should call dh_clean in
your clean target. Otherwise some auto-generated files get left behind.
I didn't change this in the NMU though.

Also, something in your package is broken because your diff.gz is
freaking huge. That's not my fault though...
