Bug#289838: Creating databases for the bacula-director
Hi, just a hint, maybe I have the time to look deeper into it at the weekend. Don't reinvent the wheel when creating databases in postinst, resp. removing them on purge. Use the wwwconfig-common framework. The package name might be misleading the package supports additionally to manipulating the apache and php config also creating and removing of database, user... for mysql and postgres. These packages have rdepends on wwwconfig-common. most of them just use it for configuring apache and php, but some of them to create databases and db users. Bug#282292: Bug#282293: libgd-perl FTBFS test failures
Hi, I looked into the libgd-perl FTBFS test failures. They are due to slight differences in PNG output. There is no visible difference between the generated and expected data, and the diff between them is very small (see the end). I have not investigated what the changed bytes mean in the PNG format. Iterating with packages from snapshot.debian.net I found that the change that broke the tests was introduced in version 1.2.7-1 of the libpng3 source package. The tests are successful with version 1.2.5.0-9 of the libpng12-0 binary package installed. The upstream changelog between 1.2.5 and 1.2.7 is rather long. Hope this helps. If you decide to keep libgd-perl out of sarge, these packages still seem to suggest or recommend it: ipac-ng remstats diablo libtemplate-perl Differences in the test output, generated by first running 'od -x' on generated and expected data and then diffing them. You can use tabs (the tab character or \t) and spaces to separate the fields of the ENTRY. To add the ENTRY to a specific section in the /etc/inetd.conf file please use the --group option in addtion to the --add option. If you are trying to add an entry which already exists update- inetd won't add the entry. For uncommented entries it will do nothing and for entries that are commented out by the comment- chars (see option --comment-chars ) it will enable the existing entry. If you want to completely replace an entry just remove the entry with the --remove option first. Sorry if i sounded too harsh, but there is no way that i can get everything migrated with so little time. And then, wwwconfig-common is quite a mess to be used in Bacula's postinst scripts -- dbconfig-common is the way to go. Anyways, your attention and suggestion is very much appreciated. You noted in the default ppc.conf that indeed the package should not ship video.x because it lacks source, and in README.Debian that it could be obtained from upstream PearPC source or MOL source. Regardless, it still exists in the orig tarball. Since you have gone to great pains to detail where to obtain video.x due to it not being shipped in the package, it's probably a good idea to regenerate a new orig tarball that does not contain video.x and upload that. Bug#296201: Not RC, IMHO
mount has its shortcomings, but I think it is stretching it to describe the reported behavior as a secutiry hole. It isn't likely that this problem would be allowed either to delay the release or to force the removal of mount from the release. Also, assuming the shortcoming exists in all versions of mount, it shouldn't prevent new versions of mount from migrating to testing. Therefore I suggest that the severity of this report be downgraded. -- Thomas Hood -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The message quoted in that bug looks like a kernel bug. The message quoted here looks like an application bug. Thing is that it is always triggered by apt-listbugs segfaulting. The message I posted in the original (apt-listbugs) bug was incomplete, it was also preceded by a segfault in dmesg, the trap 27 that follows immidiately after varies in (IOAQ etc differ) though, but always follows. The bug does not occur always, but seems to be occuring when lots of packages are upgraded (lots of bugreports). Thanks for any insights. Thanks for the suggestion, but this violates policy, which states that I can only use sections 1 through 9. Am preparing a release of atlas-test which replaces atlas3-test to match the converse which holds at present. We need to remove all these older blas/lapack/atlas packages, but a few other packages still have not upgraded yet :-(. Take care, Lars Wirzenius [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: It seems to me that atlas-test and atlas3-test have many manual pages that have the same name, see below. There are, I think, two simple ways to deal with this: make the packages conflict with each other or put the manual pages in different sections (1atlas and 1atlas3, for example). Since the packages have no other reason to conflict, the latter option seems preferable. It is enough for one package to this, but it would probably be better to have both of them do it, to make it clearer to users which one they are getting. This should be doable by changing -s 1 to -s 1atlas or -s 1atlas3 in the call to help2man in debian/rules. Note that although 295510 has only been reported against atlas-test, both packages are responsible for the situation, which is why I'm Cc'ing to Camm Maguire as well. $ ls -1 atlas-test_3.2.1ln-13.1_i386.deb atlas3-test_3.6.0-19_i386.deb $ dpkg -c atlas-* | awk '{ print $NF }' atlas-test.list $ dpkg -c atlas3-* | awk '{ print $NF }' atlas3-test.list $ sort *.list | uniq -c | awk '$1 1' 2 ./ 2 ./usr/ 2 ./usr/lib/ 2 ./usr/share/ 2 ./usr/share/doc/ 2 ./usr/share/man/ 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/ 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xcllttstF.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xcllttst.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xclutstF.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xclutst.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xcl1blastst.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xcl2blastst.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xcl3blastst.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xdllttstF.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xdllttst.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xdlutstF.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xdlutst.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xdl1blastst.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xdl2blastst.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xdl3blastst.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xsllttstF.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xsllttst.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xslutstF.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xslutst.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xsl1blastst.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xsl2blastst.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xsl3blastst.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xzllttstF.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xzllttst.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xzlutstF.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xzlutst.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xzl1blastst.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xzl2blastst.1.gz 2 ./usr/share/man/man1/xzl3blastst.1.gz -- Camm Maguire[EMAIL PROTECTED] == The earth is but one country, and mankind its citizens. -- Baha'u'llah -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Hi Adrian, I did send a message to Noah, yesterday, about this NMU and about those bugs; then I also get some information about his status since he seem MIA. I did it, even if we are in 0-day NMU time. Of corse, usually all NMUs should just tag the bugs as fixed but these fixes are very simple and a simple tag wouldn't probably make the package migrate to testing (because of the RC bug, but I am not really sure about this) moreover Noah posted an RFA last year, so probably he have no much time to focus on this package, so I think he will excuse me about this. Since he did this but didn't simply orphan the package, this should at least have given you a hint that he might be reachable. This is why I sent him the email. This has nothing to do with 0-day NMUs or the severity or how simple the bugs are: By convention, only the official package maintainer or the original bug submitter close bugs. It seems you aren't aware that different from the subject you used for closing the RC bug the NMU had _nothing_ to do with the RC bug. Didn't you notice, that I sent the bug more than two months after the NMU? Why did you pretend it was fixed by the NMU? No, you are referring to the wrong NMU. I did an NMU early today. Please have a look at: http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-changes/2005/02/msg01603.html I am not used, as policy suggest, to close bug in changelog, so I did send an email to every bug submitter, and close all bugs. Try to understand why Steve removed the sarge tag from the bug and you might understand why your action was wrong. I did. A hint: As soon as wdm reaches testing the RC bug is again 100% present... No. See above. I even recompiled and installed it in sarge. Bye, Giuseppe -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#267799: nvidia-graphics-drivers blocked by #267799
Hi, I have recently stumbled upon the following changelog comment: Changes: nvidia-graphics-drivers (1.0.6629+1-2) unstable; urgency=high . * Add patches for new ( 2.6.10-rc3-bk13) kernels from minion.de. Thanks to Drew Hess [EMAIL PROTECTED] (closes: #280224, #281640, #287226) * updated minion patches from 16 Feb 2005 * urgency high to get back in to sarge asap. in which you seem to believe that the nvidia packages can enter sarge in their present state. However, because of the high (too high?) severity of the grave bug #267799 (fails to auto-load kernel module) it is presently blocked. Given the simple workarounds mentioned in the bug thread, I think that the bug can be safely demoted, as long as you add some kind of debconf question upon the installation suggesting to either not to use udev/devfs, or to manually preload nvidia (e.g. via /etc/modules) before the X is started. vassilii -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#296678: libcurl3: NTLM Authentication buffer overflow (CAN-2005-0490)
Package: libcurl3 Version: 7.13.0-1 Severity: grave Tags: patch Justification: user security hole iDefense discovered a buffer overflow in NTLM authentication that may lead to arbitrary code execution. This is CAN-2005-0490. Woody is not affected, as it doesn't contain the vulnerable NTLM code. (It's not listed on the Not-Vulnerable list yet, though) Upstream's patch to address this issue is attached, I didn't resync it against the Debian package, because all this internal to-7.11 patching seems, umm, scary. The advisory can be found at http://www.idefense.com/application/poi/display?id=202type=vulnerabilities There's another buffer overflow in Kerberos handling, but I doesn't seems to be enabled in debian/rules, but please double check this. This bug was already existing with subject: #285276: mysql: vulnerability issue (CAN-2004-0956 and CAN-2004-0957) I merged the two. The problem with this bug is that it requires either a bigger version change (3.23.49 to 3.23.58) or a very big patch for just this issue (which is hard to produce or do you have one that changes nothing except the security hole?). Both was not liked very much and the security implication is realy realy low (correct me if I'm wrong). At the time of the bug disclosed I thought the Sarge release was just some weeks away and would introduce a fixed 4.0 version with the new stable version. Sadly Debian Sarge is still late with no release in sight. bye, -christian- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#295510: atlas{,3}-test manpage conflicts
ke, 2005-02-23 kello 12:14 -0500, Camm Maguire kirjoitti: Thanks for the suggestion, but this violates policy, which states that I can only use sections 1 through 9. Am preparing a release of atlas-test which replaces atlas3-test to match the converse which holds at present. It is my intrepretation that policy does not actually forbid it. It refers to the FHS and the FHS explicitly allows it. Quite a number of core packages do it, such as X, ncurses, and Perl. We need to remove all these older blas/lapack/atlas packages, but a few other packages still have not upgraded yet :-(. However, if you are going to get rid of the conflicing packages, then that makes my suggestion useless anyway. Good luck. :) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#296623: kernel-image-2.6.8-amd64: 2.6.8 kernel images panic on quad Opteron box
