Bug#292098: does not depend on xemacs

2005-02-26 Thread Steve Langasek
severity 292098 important
reassign 292098 hyperlatex
thanks

Found it. e3 package is buggy and keeps alternative on e3em after
removal. A stupid case check on prerm, running update-alternatives only
 on upgrades.

 Removing e3 ...
 + '[' remove '!=' upgrade ']'
 + update-alternatives --quiet --remove editor /bin/e3em
 + update-alternatives --quiet --remove vi /bin/e3vi
 + update-alternatives --quiet --remove emacs /bin/e3em

This makes no sense: you just quoted a transcript of the e3 maintainer
script where update-alternatives *was* called, because this was *not* an
upgrade.

# apt-get install e3
snip
The following NEW packages will be installed:

# apt-get remove e3
Reading Package Lists... Done

The following packages will be REMOVED:
  e3
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 to remove and 302 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B of archives.
After unpacking 111kB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n]

Removing e3 ...
# update-alternatives --list emacs
/usr/bin/emacs21-x

I don't see anything to suggest that there is a bug in e3 here, just the
original bug in hyperlatex.

What does update-alternatives --list emacs show on your system?

Bug#295914: tvtime: seems to include undistributable code

2005-02-26 Thread Steve Langasek
severity 295914 important
thanks

The code that this comment refers to was not being used and has been
removed from newer versions of tvtime. Since the code is long gone, I
have removed the comment describing the license from the source file in
CVS. It will be gone from the next version of tvtime.

AFAICT, newer versions includes the version we currently have in the
archive, which includes no routines named 420to422 or 422to444; so I don't
see anything release-critical here, only the lesser issue of removing the
excess information from debian/copyright.

Bug#296514: Cervisia license issues

2005-02-26 Thread Ben Burton

Hi,

Thanks to everyone for their helpful responses.

BTW, about which KDE version do we talk? Is it enough if we change the
license in CVS HEAD aka KDE 4 (maybe 3.5)?

If a license change is likely, I would be most appreciative if the
change could be made in KDE_3_3_BRANCH also (since it appears that we
will be shipping KDE 3.3.x with our next release).

Thanks again,

Ben.

The previous upstream version of ltp enabled the getdents check only on
i386; the implementation in this version depends on the _syscall3 macro,
which is apparently not portable to ia64 (although it was present in older
versions of libc6.1-dev for this arch). It's probably better to re-disable
this testcase on ia64 until a more portable solution can be found.

Since the version of ltp in testing is still broken due to bug #293023, I
have marked it for removal pending resolution of this bug.

In fact, is not very difficult, since you just feed update-inetd
the appropriate --group option, and the original line as it was in
the inetd.conf file.

See the attached patch. It's untested, and probably not the best
one, but perhaps gives you some ideas for the final version.

It's probably better than the idea that I sketched. But you forgot to
remove the cache file after postinst used it.

I will resign myself to prepare a patch like this then...
I really don't like it because it's quite a big amount of code, but
well, if we need to ;)

I have been listening on the sideline, and really appreciate the good
input on this.

Have been too busy with real life to dig into the problem myself, but
will appreciate a patch and package it.

Bug#297010: linux-kernel-header: O_NOATIME needed for lvm

2005-02-26 Thread Goswin Brederlow
Package: linux-kernel-headers
Version: 2.5.999-test7-bk-17
Severity: critical
File: linux-kernel-header
Justification: breaks the whole system

Hi,

when one tries to run pvmove or lvsnapshot on / the lvm will deadlock
itself due to atime updates on /dev/ being blocked while the LVM is
locked. Sine any read/write access to / will be blocked the system
breaks.

To prevent this lvm uses O_NOATIME where available, which is still not
the case in current linux-kernel-headers.

On closing this bug please reassign it to lvm instead because it
needs to Build-Depend on new enough headers and recompile.

MfG

Obviously you haven't read any folowing responces to this

I'm already using Xorg server as it's faster and has less amount

Surelly I could reassing this bug to Xserver package, but hardly doubt
that maintainer of this package ever reads this horribly long list of
bug reports.

The other solution is to close this bug - as noone is able to
reproduce it - so obviously it has got fixed over the time.
Most probably by updates in XV driver - and this is what I propose
The bug is unrelated to aviplay - I do not want to see it
on my bug list - and I'm mostly 99% sure it's been fixed
from that time in Xserver.

So it's up to you - either reasing it - or close it with this
knowledge...

Version 0.23.2 removes a function from the API without changing the
SONAME of the library.

In particular, my package bluez-utils is caused not to build from source
by this change.

bluez-utils-2.15/hcid/dbus.c:75: undefined reference to

Fixing l-k-h does not help, it is not possible to use asm/fcntl.h and
fcntl.h at the same time. It has to be fixed in
bits/fcntl.h which comes from
$glibc/sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/$arch/bits/fcntl.h.

  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=273871

before libsilc can enter testing.

The libsilc maintainer will have to resolve the reported bug by making
the included shared libraries comply with policy. He seems to have
indicated that he is not actively working on it, but will accept
volunteers.

Bug#297026: libcppunit-1.10-0: bumped soname without bumping package name

2005-02-26 Thread Steinar H. Gunderson
Package: libcppunit-1.10-0
Version: 1.10.2-1
Severity: serious
Tags: sid

Hi,

libcppunit-1.10-0 now suddenly contains the file
/usr/lib/libcppunit-1.10.so.2 instead of the file
/usr/lib/libcppunit-1.10.so.0; if you want to bump the soname, you must
also bump the package name. (This change does of course break any package
linking to libcppunit-1.10.so.0.)

This affects woody as well, so I shouldn't have closed it with the sarge

Fixed packages for woody have been sent to the security team.

Bug#295510: Pointer to discussion on debian-devel

2005-02-26 Thread David Schmitt
Hello world!

http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/02/msg01254.html

is the last post on a short discussion regarding the effects of this bug.

As far as I understand it, the old packages have to be retained, because
removing them would force a soname bump on cernlib.

Perhaps the sections would only be needed to change on the old manpages?

Bug#295306: Need advice wrt #295306

2005-02-26 Thread Pierre Habouzit
I have been listening on the sideline, and really appreciate the good
 input on this.

  great :)

Have been too busy with real life to dig into the problem myself, but
will appreciate a patch and package it.

well, then a patch is attached.
it is a patch against the tree built by the current state of :

  apt-get source uw-imapd/unstable

the patch is inspired by dato's work, and create
{uw-imapd,ipopd}.{postrm,preinst,postinst} from templates.

the patch is presented as an NMU, so you will have to change the
debian/changelog entry and put your name in there ;)

cheers,

New upstream version addresses several file include and XSS issues; see
http://securityreason.com/adv/phpmyadmin_2.6.1_remote_file_inclusion_and_xss_cxib8o3.4.txt

Also it may be worth considering switching register_globals to Off in
/usr/share/phpmyadmin/.htaccess - it should have been safe for phpmyadmin for
1-2 years already. This would also have stopped some of the XSS issues that
popped up this time..

Bug#296935: Setting up of webcalendar fails

2005-02-26 Thread Justin Pryzby
On Fri, Feb 25, 2005 at 09:36:52PM -0800, Steve Langasek wrote:
The problem may be that the DB_PASSWORD line is unable to handle an @
sign (though I cannot reproduce it).

I'm not sure why you can't reproduce this:
1) You seem to have replaced ')' with '}'. (Just for the record).

  'SINGLE_USER_LOGIN' =  };
  ^^^
2) The DB password should be of debconf type password, not string,
such that the value is not echoed to the screen (and I think debconf
also discards the value ASAP).

3) I can reproduce the problem now; I had to purge webcalendar and
then reinstall it. I don't understand why.

dpkg-reconfigure webcalendar
/usr/sbin/dpkg-reconfigure: webcalendar is broken or not fully installed

Shouldn't purging erase the debconf values so I can install it again?
It doesn't.

4) /etc/webcalendar/settings.php is not removed on purge, which causes
an unsightly message /etc/webcalendar not empty so not removed.
That file should be manually rm in prerm:purge (but not in
prerm:remove).

Bug#297026: libcppunit-1.10-0: bumped soname without bumping package name

Is stuff like this ever removed from the archive? (Not to mention it wouldn't
help any; lots of people have probably already upgraded.) My best guess would
be uploading something like libcppunit-1.10-0 version 1.10.2+really1.10.0-1
with the old upstream version, and then upload a new libcppunit-1.10-2 and
wait for it to pass NEW.

Bug#272364: Maybe just remove kernel-patch-redhat

2005-02-26 Thread Andrew Pollock
Hi Dan,

I see you've recently orphaned kernel-patch-redhat. Maybe you're better off
just requesting its removal from the archive, given that it has a release
critical bug filed against it, which suggests it's going to be useless in
Sarge anyway?

Just my $AUD 0.05 worth.

regards

Andrew

Thanks. I will maybe rearrange the location and naming of the templates,

the patch is presented as an NMU, so you will have to change the
debian/changelog entry and put your name in there ;)

Whoops - seems you hardcode imapd values for both uw-imapd and ipopd

I'd appreciate if you will look through it again. Else I will take a
look at it myself.

Thanks.

 Hi,

Hello,

Just wanted to know whether you had time to investigate a bit on the
libgnomedb FTBFS (#296863), I've heard you had a stuck package in NEW,
  but I don't know if it's related.

I've taken a look in the report, and thought it's probably because of
some change in gtk-doc-tools or related softwares (Jade?).

As you said, I'm just waiting the new version of libgda (1.2.0) get out
of the NEW queue (actually, for the one that is sitting there to be
rejected, then upload a better one and wait...) to upload a newer
libgnomedb, where things are working well.

The debian/ dir for building the 1.2 packages can be found at
svn.debian.org

Anyway, if you want some help on investigating this, I'm willing to!

If you're really wish to do so go ahead, and I'll try to make an upload
if you send me a patch. However, I don't think this is really
necessary.

Anyway, thanks for the kind offer.

Bug#296266: greylistd: fails to install

2005-02-26 Thread Steve Langasek
IIRC, it failed in greylistd.postinst right after:

 . /usr/share/debconf/confmodule

so it's likely not a bug in greylistd, but somewhere between debconf
and/or ash. It looks a lot like #242011.

No, this is completely unrelated to #242011. This *is* a bug in greylistd.

Bug#295344: segfaults on startup

2005-02-26 Thread Steve Langasek
This appears to be a problem with gxine's handling of character encodings
for translations. If I set my locale to [EMAIL PROTECTED], I have no
problems starting gxine; setting it to [EMAIL PROTECTED], however, I get the
same
segfault, along with:

A trivial fix is to drop the translations until gxine can properly handle
converting charsets.

Bug#294867: base: de4x5.ko generates endless loop of errors with phobos p430tx

2005-02-26 Thread Steve Langasek
I've just switched to tulip from de4x5 on my alpha, and none of the problems
that were present previously appear to persist under 2.4.27-2. So I don't
have any objections to blacklisting de4x5.

OTOH, I also can't find anything in the current kernel-image 2.6.8-2
packages that explains why the de4x5 module is being chosen here, as it
doesn't appear in modules.pcimap. Would this have been a discover bug
instead, after all?

thanks

Stella on 64-Bit does not work on my computer. With the same command, the
32-Bit stella works fine when I boot 32-Bit Sarge.

When I run stella from the commandline on alpha, it gives me a usage
message. Does this bug require a ROM to reproduce the bug? If so, can you
point me to a ROM that I can use for reproducing it?
