Bug#296863: libgnomedb FTBFS (#296863)
Hi, On sam, fév 26, 2005, Gustavo R. Montesino wrote: Just wanted to know whether you had time to investigate a bit on the libgnomedb FTBFS (#296863), I've heard you had a stuck package in NEW, but I don't know if it's related. I've taken a look in the report, and thought it's probably because of some change in gtk-doc-tools or related softwares (Jade?). As you said, I'm just waiting the new version of libgda (1.2.0) get out of the NEW queue (actually, for the one that is sitting there to be rejected, then upload a better one and wait...) to upload a newer libgnomedb, where things are working well. The debian/ dir for building the 1.2 packages can be found at svn.debian.org I wonder why a newer libgnomedb would be doing better, I'll have to rebuild libgda 1.2 and libgnomedb to understand that! If you're really wish to do so go ahead, and I'll try to make an upload if you send me a patch. However, I don't think this is really necessary. Here's a short summary of what I understand of this problem: - with libgnomedb-1.0.4/doc/C/tmpl and the source code, the gtk-doc makefile snipset builds a sgml directory, - the sgml directory should serve as input to jade for the generation of the html doc, but jade fails on this because of: /usr/bin/jade:../sgml/gnome-db-config.sgml:68:69:E: character : is not allowed in the value of attribute LINKEND The :CAPS snipsets is added to ids in SGML files by gtkdoc-mkdb when no lowercase letter is found, this is to avoid namespace collision in ids. I've checked upstream gtk-doc, and gtkdoc-mkdb still acts like this. What I can't tell is whether jade is bugged or doesn't respect the SGML standard (jade only had an upload, but seems to have a long history of misbuilds), or whether it's gtk-doc assuming too much of the standard. I called openjade1.4devel on the SGML files, and openjade complained in the very same way, so I was first tempted to blame gtk-doc for using :CAPS in ids, but nsgmls didn't complain when ran on the same document. Finally, I checked ISO/IEC 10179, and found in 7.3.2 that ids are allowed to use :, definitely a jade bug it seems, since the linkend attribute of the link element is often defined as of IDREF type. /usr/share/sgml/docbook/stylesheet/dsssl/modular/print/dblink.dsl confirms this definition of linkend in docbook-dsssl, which gtk-doc-tools uses. My personal conclusion is that the breakage shouldn't come up if upstream doesn't use all uppercased id refs, such as macros, but it is unlikely, or if jade is fixed. Now I'll have a look at newer upstream packages, and see how they fix the problem. Bye, -- Loïc Minier [EMAIL PROTECTED] Neutral President: I have no strong feelings one way or the other.

Bug#292478: more info on #292478: oops on boot with usb cdburner attached
I tried a few tests: 1) I have another mainboard (brand is FIC) that uses the SiS746 southbridge so I tested on it as well. I can repeat the same problem as in the original report. 2) I tried a couple other USB mass storage devices, * a memory card reader with memory card, non-bootable * a flash drive, bootable and I could not repeat the problem. Trying with a different USB cdrom drive would be interesting, but unfortunately I don't have one. When I get a chance I will test with this drive on a non-sis746 system/controller. -- Matt Taggart [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#295060: wwwoffle: patch for part of this bug
Hi *! The easier part of this problem is addressed by the attached patch: wwwoffle.config tries to preseed the debconf db with yes/no for boolean values which expect true/false. The overwwrites local config part is way harder. Looking at the postinst gives me the creeps. Just a few quotes which I think would need fixing: Everything in debian/wwwoffle.postinst of 2.8e-1: Line 202: | # Here the [...] link is made if it either doesn't exist or it points to a | # non-existent file. Bug#296935: Setting up of webcalendar fails
On Sun, Feb 27, 2005 at 06:39:52PM +0100, Filippo Rusconi wrote: I don't know if that's right, or if there's a second problem. You can work around it by editting the appropriate line in /var/cache/debconf/config.dat. Yes, it helped. However, the install of webcalendar along with a number of other packages seamed very much complicated to me. I could not even understand how to point my web browser to webcalendar... nothing was put in /var/www, which as I understand it, the standard location for Apache-served files... I believe that that's intentional. The webcalendar files are in /usr/share because they are sharable, and apache.conf (or its counterpart) is updated with a web alias: /webcalendar = /usr/share/webcalendar. Besides keeping them in share/, this allows an easy way to disable web apps without removing them; just edit apache.conf. When I tried to load a /usr/share/webcalendar/index.php file in mozilla-firefox it asked me if I wanted to store it on disk, not recognizing that this was php script ! That's a php problem, though, not a webcalendar one. If you haven't already found the solution, check /etc/apache*/conf.d/*php*, and possibly uncomment some lines to enable php preprocessing. Maybe dpkg-reconfigure php4 will do that for you, actually. Justin -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

On another side, I wouldn't bind hylafax to just bash, as you suggested, since it works with many other shells. It seems the problem is only shown with posh. I might change some of the simplest expressions, like '[ exp1 -a exp2 ]' but I cannot change '[ f1 -nt f2 ]' in any way that posh might like. Bug#290339: Test build of supercollider 040926-3 succeded on mips
Hi Thiemo, Sorry for the long reply, I was away for a few days. On Wed, Feb 16, 2005 at 02:41:19AM +0100, Thiemo Seufer wrote: I believe the problem is a generic one, and caused by the absolute paths in sclang.cfg. This causes every machine without supercollider to fail the file name resolving, while machines with installed supercollider will use the old files from the build environment, which is probably even worse. I could not reproduce this bug. below is the result of a pbuilder build on powerpc, after i purged all supercollider* packages. note that debian/rules now uses a specially crafted tmp.sclang.cfg to ensure the path are relative to the build location. However sclang segfaults on non 64 bits architectures such as sparc, arm and hppa. The buildd for mips is still lagging behind as emacs21 is uninstallable, so it is good news if you do not get a segfault on mips. Using the package-local files eventually fails also, it looks like the file parsing is broken. this would be another bug then. what emacs version are you using? thanks for your feedback, bye, paul [...] Loading 50ocaml-nox... Of course, every distro I know of ships both NPTL and LinuxThreads and the apparently accepted workaround appears to be to use the ld.so that was built for NPTL rather than the one that was built for LinuxThreads (more precisely, the ld.so should be used which uses larger thread descriptors). Thus, I strongly suspect Debian should do the same. Since this bug results in memory corruption that can be very hard to track down, I hope this can be fixed quickly. As a temporary workaround, just doing: David, does this problem only occurs on ia64? Or i686? To be honest, I have concerned this kind of problem - the incompatibility between nptl and linuxthreads. # mv /lib/tls/ld-2.3.2.so /lib/ should cure the problem. I'm hard to decide to introduce this kind of workaround into the package. We have two choices - (1) increasing the size of linuxthreads' thread descriptors (2) we don't load nptl library using /lib/ld.so. Taking choice (1) is nice idea - because (2) needs another consideration about the kernel version capability. Some distributions (ex: SuSE/FC) provides the fixed kernel version - OTOH, debian has two kernel version series - 2.4 (linuxthreads) and 2.6 (nptl). If we can fix this problem with (1), we don't need to be care about (2) modifications. Regards, -- gotom -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble?
