I am not sure whether this is a bug in cdbs (for changing
build-depends), in pbuilder (for not doing an explicit fakeroot
debian/rules clean before installing build-depends or in apg.

I'll have to think about it for a while.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#296935: Setting up of webcalendar fails

2005-02-27 Thread Filippo Rusconi
Hellow Justin,

The problem may be that the DB_PASSWORD line is unable to handle an @
sign (though I cannot reproduce it). Can you try running
dpkg-reconfigure webcalendar, and entering a purely alphanumeric
 password?

I cannot run dpkg-reconfigure webcalendar :

/usr/sbin/dpkg-reconfigure: webcalendar is broken or not fully installed

Cheers,

Filippo

Bug#296863: libgnomedb FTBFS (#296863)

2005-02-27 Thread Loïc Minier
Hi,

On sam, fév 26, 2005, Gustavo R. Montesino wrote:
Just wanted to know whether you had time to investigate a bit on the
libgnomedb FTBFS (#296863), I've heard you had a stuck package in NEW,
   but I don't know if it's related.
I've taken a look in the report, and thought it's probably because of
some change in gtk-doc-tools or related softwares (Jade?).

As you said, I'm just waiting the new version of libgda (1.2.0) get out
of the NEW queue (actually, for the one that is sitting there to be
rejected, then upload a better one and wait...) to upload a newer
libgnomedb, where things are working well.
The debian/ dir for building the 1.2 packages can be found at
 svn.debian.org

I wonder why a newer libgnomedb would be doing better, I'll have to
rebuild libgda 1.2 and libgnomedb to understand that!

If you're really wish to do so go ahead, and I'll try to make an upload
if you send me a patch. However, I don't think this is really
 necessary.

Here's a short summary of what I understand of this problem:
 - with libgnomedb-1.0.4/doc/C/tmpl and the source code, the gtk-doc
makefile snipset builds a sgml directory,
 - the sgml directory should serve as input to jade for the generation
of the html doc, but jade fails on this because of:
   /usr/bin/jade:../sgml/gnome-db-config.sgml:68:69:E: character : is
not allowed in the value of attribute LINKEND

The :CAPS snipsets is added to ids in SGML files by gtkdoc-mkdb
when no lowercase letter is found, this is to avoid namespace collision
in ids. I've checked upstream gtk-doc, and gtkdoc-mkdb still acts
 like this.

What I can't tell is whether jade is bugged or doesn't respect the SGML
standard (jade only had an upload, but seems to have a long history of
misbuilds), or whether it's gtk-doc assuming too much of the standard.

I called openjade1.4devel on the SGML files, and openjade complained in
the very same way, so I was first tempted to blame gtk-doc for using
:CAPS in ids, but nsgmls didn't complain when ran on the same
 document.

Finally, I checked ISO/IEC 10179, and found in 7.3.2 that ids are
allowed to use :, definitely a jade bug it seems, since the linkend
attribute of the link element is often defined as of IDREF type.
 /usr/share/sgml/docbook/stylesheet/dsssl/modular/print/dblink.dsl
confirms this definition of linkend in docbook-dsssl, which
 gtk-doc-tools uses.

My personal conclusion is that the breakage shouldn't come up if
upstream doesn't use all uppercased id refs, such as macros, but it is
unlikely, or if jade is fixed.

Now I'll have a look at newer upstream packages, and see how they fix
 the problem.

   Bye,

| E: Couldn't configure pre-depend gs-aladdin for hylafax-server, probably a
dependency cycle.

Also the pre-dependency lacks a consensus from debian-devel.

Bug#292478: more info on #292478: oops on boot with usb cdburner attached

2005-02-27 Thread Matt Taggart
I tried a few tests:

1) I have another mainboard (brand is FIC) that uses the SiS746 southbridge so
I tested on it as well. I can repeat the same problem as in the original
report.

2) I tried a couple other USB mass storage devices,
 * a memory card reader with memory card, non-bootable
 * a flash drive, bootable

and I could not repeat the problem. Trying with a different USB cdrom drive
would be interesting, but unfortunately I don't have one.

When I get a chance I will test with this drive on a non-sis746
system/controller.

Bug#296935: Setting up of webcalendar fails

 Hellow Justin,

The problem may be that the DB_PASSWORD line is unable to handle an @

 I cannot run dpkg-reconfigure webcalendar :

/usr/sbin/dpkg-reconfigure: webcalendar is broken or not fully installed
I know, I had the same problem.

I don't know if that's right, or if there's a second problem. You can
work around it by editting the appropriate line in
/var/cache/debconf/config.dat.

I can't make a patch with po4a to automatize the translation, because po4a
have a bug in sgml making and produce a bad sgml file. See

Default faxrcvd uses the -a parameter of [, this is a bashism, but use
 /bin/sh, not /bin/bash.

I just checked manual pages of bash, dash, ksh and it seems that all of
them accept this syntex. It isn't clear to me what is POSIX and what's not.
Do you suggest to change
  if [ exp1 -a exp2 ]
in
  if [ exp1 ] [ exp2 ]
?

What is the shell you are using?

Bug#297134: hylafax-server - default faxrcvd uses bashisms

It is SUS but not POSIX.

 Do you suggest to change

This is one fix, the other is to use /bin/bash.

What is the shell you are using?

I'd appreciate if you will look through it again. Else I will take a
 look at it myself.

 Thanks.

you are right. and I'm a damn idiot not having spotted that

on top of every template there is a : PROGRAM=@@PROGRAM@@

  that will become PROGRAM=uw-imapd/ipopd

I suggest you to put that just after :

  if [ $PROGRAM = 'uw-imapd' ]; then
SERVER='imapd'
PEM='imapd.pem'
  else
SERVER='ipopd'
PEM='ipo3pd.pem'
  fi

(or whatever the SERVER, PEM, ...)

and then to use $SERVER everywhere I hardcoded it reading dato's patch
too quick.

I have not enough time (I'm trying to work on kde packaging, and 3.4
is near) so I'd be thankful to you, to make the adjustments yourself
since they are not that many

Bug#295060: wwwoffle: patch for part of this bug

2005-02-27 Thread David Schmitt
Hi *!

The easier part of this problem is addressed by the attached patch:
wwwoffle.config tries to preseed the debconf db with yes/no for boolean values
which expect true/false.

The overwwrites local config part is way harder. Looking at the postinst
gives me the creeps. Just a few quotes which I think would need fixing:

Everything in debian/wwwoffle.postinst of 2.8e-1:

Line 202:
| # Here the [...] link is made if it either doesn't exist or it points to a
| # non-existent file.

The following code is AFAICS not conditional upon first installation, thus
overriding a local admin who has intentionally removed the link.

Line 257:
|perl -i.bak -pe 's/^(\# WWWOFFLE - World Wide Web Offline Explorer -
Version).*/$1' $config_version/ $CONFIG
|if cmp -s $CONFIG $CONFIG.bak; then mv -f $CONFIG.bak $CONFIG; fi

If the perl doesn't modify the config, this will kill the symlink:

 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/tmp/test$ echo foo foo
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/tmp/test$ echo bar bar
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/tmp/test$ ln -s foo xxx

This seems to be the main cause for the symlink-replacement stuff:

 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/tmp/test$ perl -pi -e 's/1/foo/' config.link

 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/tmp/test$

Line 354:
| if [ ! -f $OPTIONS ]; then
|cp -p /usr/share/wwwoffle/default/wwwoffle.options $OPTIONS
| fi

This too is not special cased to the not-upgrading case.

The following two problems apply to all debconf - $OPTIONS transformations

Line 365:
| if grep '^htdig' $OPTIONS /dev/null 21 ; then

This is probably correct, but it highlights that other places testing
for options are too strict when using grep -x 'htdig'.

Line 368 and 372:
| perl -i -e 'while () { next if /htdig/; print; }' $OPTIONS

This skips _all_ lines containing 'htdig' including comments

Line 383:
| if grep '^PPP' $OPTIONS /dev/null 21 ; then

'PPP' is lowercased everywhere else.

Line 402:
|if [ $FREQ != off ]; then
|# convert to digits only
|FREQ=$( expr $FREQ : '\([0-9]*\)' )

In the .config, there is already complex code to clean this value and
(without obvious cause) to cap it to 30 minutes. Also this would silently
eat input errors.

Line 397, 412, 423:
|CRONTAB=/etc/cron.d/wwwoffle
[..]
|if [ -s $CRONTAB ]; then

This too is not special cased to the not-upgrading case and fails if
$CRONTAB is a symlink.

The postinst goes on to munge or recreate the crontab. Again without
checking for symlinks or admin-removal of the file.

Line 448:
| # now duplicate directory structure of /usr/share/wwwoffle/html to
/etc/wwwoffle/html

Followed by approximatly 20 lines of shell code which probably amount to a 'cp
-s' which
I _think_ could be replaced by a 'ln -s /usr/share/wwwoffle/html
/etc/wwwoffle/html'
iff the package is not upgrading and there is no /etc/wwwoffle/html.

Line 516, ff:
|rm -f nohup.out
|nohup chown -R proxy:proxy /var/cache/wwwoffle/. /var/lib/wwwoffle/.
/dev/null 21
|sleep 1
|rm -f nohup.out

This deletes nohup.out in the current directory, which could be not from
wwwoffle, which could also be created in $HOME, but is not created by nohup
anyway because of the redirection.

Bug#296935: Setting up of webcalendar fails

Yes, it helped. However, the install of webcalendar along with a
number of other packages seamed very much complicated to me. I could
not even understand how to point my web browser to webcalendar...
nothing was put in /var/www, which as I understand it, the standard
 location for Apache-served files...
I believe that that's intentional. The webcalendar files are in
/usr/share because they are sharable, and apache.conf (or its
counterpart) is updated with a web alias: /webcalendar =
/usr/share/webcalendar.

Besides keeping them in share/, this allows an easy way to disable
web apps without removing them; just edit apache.conf.

When I tried to load a /usr/share/webcalendar/index.php file in
mozilla-firefox it asked me if I wanted to store it on disk, not
recognizing that this was php script !
That's a php problem, though, not a webcalendar one. If you haven't
already found the solution, check /etc/apache*/conf.d/*php*, and
possibly uncomment some lines to enable php preprocessing. Maybe
dpkg-reconfigure php4 will do that for you, actually.

Bug#297134: hylafax-server - default faxrcvd uses bashisms

2005-02-27 Thread Giuseppe Sacco
I just checked all hylafax scripts and the problem you reported is
present on many scripts:

etc/faxsetup.sh.in
etc/faxaddmodem.sh.in
util/wedged.sh.in
util/faxrecvd.sh.in
util/recvstats.sh.in
util/notify.sh.in
util/notify-4.1.sh.in
util/tiff2fax.sh.in
util/xferstats.sh.in
port/install.sh.in
html/tools/manpage.sh.in
debian/hylafax-server.hylafax.init
debian/hylafax-server.postinst
debian/hylafax-server.prerm

So, it might be that they arent't posix. Anyway, the posh man page
doesn't explain what is the complete list of test operators. (just as
one example, it seems it doesn't provide the -nt operator, but I
couldn't check the documentation.)

On another side, I wouldn't bind hylafax to just bash, as you suggested,
since it works with many other shells. It seems the problem is only
shown with posh.

I might change some of the simplest expressions, like '[ exp1 -a exp2 ]'
but I cannot change '[ f1 -nt f2 ]' in any way that posh might like.

Is there a way to tell posh to use the external /usr/bin/[ command?

Bye,
Giuseppe

Bug#290339: Test build of supercollider 040926-3 succeded on mips

2005-02-27 Thread Paul Brossier
Hi Thiemo,

Sorry for the long reply, I was away for a few days.

On Wed, Feb 16, 2005 at 02:41:19AM +0100, Thiemo Seufer wrote:
I believe the problem is a generic one, and caused by the absolute
paths in sclang.cfg. This causes every machine without supercollider
to fail the file name resolving, while machines with installed
supercollider will use the old files from the build environment, which
 is probably even worse.

I could not reproduce this bug. below is the result of a pbuilder build on
powerpc, after i purged all supercollider* packages. note that debian/rules now
uses a specially crafted tmp.sclang.cfg to ensure the path are relative to the
build location.

However sclang segfaults on non 64 bits architectures such as sparc, arm and
hppa. The buildd for mips is still lagging behind as emacs21 is uninstallable,
so it is good news if you do not get a segfault on mips.

Using the package-local files eventually fails also, it looks like
 the file parsing is broken.

this would be another bug then. what emacs version are you using?

thanks for your feedback,
bye, paul

Bug#291700: Proposing stable PostgreSQL bugfixes

Hmm, why did you do that merge? From the bug reports I can't see any
connection between them. Apart from the fact that 294992 was tagged
sarge and 276800 sid, so I really don't see, how they could belong
together.

David, does this problem only occurs on ia64? Or i686? To be honest,
I have concerned this kind of problem - the incompatibility between
nptl and linuxthreads.

   # mv /lib/tls/ld-2.3.2.so /lib/

 should cure the problem.

I'm hard to decide to introduce this kind of workaround into the
package. We have two choices - (1) increasing the size of
linuxthreads' thread descriptors (2) we don't load nptl library using
/lib/ld.so. Taking choice (1) is nice idea - because (2) needs
another consideration about the kernel version capability. Some
distributions (ex: SuSE/FC) provides the fixed kernel version - OTOH,
debian has two kernel version series - 2.4 (linuxthreads) and 2.6
(nptl). If we can fix this problem with (1), we don't need to be care
about (2) modifications.

Package: cdbs
Version: 0.4.27-1
Severity: grave

The new version seems to change the control to add patchutils to
the dependency list (when there is a control.in file).

This causes problem for package that were generated using and old
version of cdbs and are now build with the new version.

Please don't go and add build dependencies to packages.

Bug#291700: Proposing stable PostgreSQL bugfixes

2005-02-27 Thread Steve Langasek
Martin,

In the light of #291700 I prepared a new PostgreSQL stable upload. It
fixes a grave misbehaviour if a database is called peer, and fixes
the calling of dpkg --compare-versions which caused the help screen to
be printed when installing the package from scratch.

Would you accept the following debdiff for stable-proposed-updates?

This needs to be approved by the Stable Release Manager, Joey Schulze. I
don't know if Joey follows this list.

Bug#297241: gnome-icon-theme: FTBFS: Missing Build-Depends

2005-02-27 Thread Daniel Schepler
Package: gnome-icon-theme
Version: 2.8.0-3
Severity: serious

From my build log (reproduced using pbuilder in an i386 chroot):

...
checking whether to enable maintainer-specific portions of Makefiles... no
checking for perl... /usr/bin/perl
checking for XML::Parser... configure: error: XML::Parser perl module is
required for intltool
make: *** [config.status] Error 1

This means you're missing a Build-Depends on either intltool or
libxml-parser-perl, depending on whom you talk to.
