Bug#299282: Fwd: Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender

2005-03-13 Thread David Schmitt
Package: gjdoc
Version: 0.7.2-1
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi!

There is a typo in gjdoc.sh.in: The jars are installed to
/usr/share/java/, not /usr/share/java/ext/. Due to this gjdoc fails to
run reproducably.

The (trivial) patch is attached.

Regards, David

Currently, this bug depends on resolving gjdoc#299282, which is the (current)
cause for not building the documentation in junit.

I've prepared an example patch for this (attached). The patch is not
fully tested with regard to time-skew issues due to the Makefile.*
 changes.

The fact that you also need to prepare a orig.tar.gz without the font
file is of course also not reflected in the patch.

I've contacted the upstream author so he would replace the font in
upstream package.

I am uploading a revised version of this package that removes the

Hi Micah, while I appreciate your efforts, this NMU unfortunately was
unnecessary, the current bglibs packages in sarge are fine.

Peter, the file /usr/share/doc/bglibs-doc/latex/Helvetica.ttf in the
bglibs-doc package is from the GPL upstream tarball. The font actually
is generated by the doxygen package, which Debian also distributes under
the GPL.

Thanks, Gerrit.

No. It was here as an indirect dependency, and was removed because it is
non-free. You should try to find out which .la file still brings it.
What is the output of grep howl /usr/lib/*.la ?

This is caused by ./setup.py being interpreted by python which in turn doesn't
exist since all the python2.3 dependencies don't include /usr/bin/python. A
crude solution would be adding python to Build-Depends but a careful
python2.4 transition would be appropriate here. /usr/bin/python from python2.4
seems to be the cause of the build success on the maintainer's machine since he
didn't try the build in a clean environment. Remember: pbuilder is your friend.

Thanks for considering.

Hi,

Bug#298965: afterstep: contains non-free font

2005-03-13 Thread Robert Luberda
On Sat, 12 Mar 2005, Steve Langasek wrote:

Hi,

If 2.0.4 will include other significant changes besides the removal of the
fonts, this is really not the time in the release cycle to be packaging new
upstream releases to fix RC bugs that can easily be fixed in other ways.

And what is the time in release cycle now? I appreciate your (Release
Team) work, but the sad truth is that from my point of view the sarge
release is as far away as it was a year ago. A few months ago I losted
my hope sarge would be released in predictable future and I have just
(re)started normal work on my packages e.g. by uploading to unstable
some packages which I hadn't planned to be included in sarge and which
I used to upload to experimental. Afterstep was one of them since the
2.0 version was rewritten almost from scratch so it was sure it would
have plenty of new bugs. Of course there are some bugs, although not
as many as I thought, but despite them afterstep2 is quite usable
now and much better then outdated 1.8.

would be far better, IMHO, to repackage the upstream .orig.tar.gz with the
fonts removed, and upload to Debian without waiting for an upstream release
that may not immediately be in releasable condition.

I think 2.0.4 will be mostly a bugfix release (like any other release
after 2.0.0), so it probably will go to testing anyway.
Obviously I can upload repackaged 2.0.3 (and I will do it
tomorrow), but thanks to mipsel, arm, etc. there is no warranty
it will go to testing before 2.0.4 is released.

But for now I'm lowering *temporarily* its priority to have afterstep
  2.0.3 propagated into testing.

In the future, please don't do this without talking to the release team
 first.

OK. I will do. But I don't think lowering the severity changed anything
apart from having newer afterstep available for testing in sarge now.
Mind you, both previous and current version of afterstep *do* have the bug.

Of course I could have uploaded new package only to fix this bug,
but then I had to wait another some days for afterstep being allowed
into testing. I even thought about doing that until it turned out
that 2.0.3 would finally build on mipsel.

(In this case, afterstep 2.00.03-1 has already been accepted into
 testing today.)

That's great!

Best Regards,

robert

Bug#299316: rsnapshot: FTBFS: aclocal-1.4 missing

2005-03-13 Thread Roland Stigge
Package: rsnapshot
Version: 1.2.0-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

building the package rsnapshot in a clean build environment
(with pbuilder) on i386 results in:

Now type make install to install the program.

After rsnapshot is installed, don't forget to copy
/etc/rsnapshot.conf.default to /etc/rsnapshot.conf

it often tells you about the needed prerequirements for installing
this package. You may also peek at any GNU archive site, in case
some other package would contain this missing `aclocal-1.4' program.

This can be worked around by installing automake1.4, but this bug should be
solved by regenerating (before building the source package) or touching (at
build time) the respective files appropriately.

Thanks for considering.

Bug#298731: what am i missing?

2005-03-13 Thread Mike O'Connor
The webdefault.xml references:
 http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/web-app_2_4.xsd

Which in turn references a few other schema documents ... including
 http://www.ibm.com/webservices/xsd/j2ee_web_services_client_1_1.xsd

Unfortunately our friends at IBM appear to have removed this document.

I do not see such a reference in
http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/web-app_2_4.xsd, could sun have fixed
this problem already? Or am I missing something?

this is a bug in the applications?

Bug#296029: Current status?

2005-03-13 Thread Josselin Mouette
severity 296029 important
thanks

Le dimanche 13 mars 2005 16:40 +0100, Frank Lichtenheld a crit :
 Hi all.

What is the current status of this bug? It was forwarded to the GNOME
bugzilla, but marked NOTABUG there. The last comment from the bugzilla
is three weeks old already. Will this bug be fixed in the Debian
packages never-the-less or will the upstream opinion be accepted that
this is a bug in the applications?

The decision for sarge was to drop icon cache support for the hicolor/
and gnome/ directories, where there are icons installed by random
packages. In the long term, it's unlikely that we do something else,
unless the freedesktop.org specification is changed to something more
reasonable.

Regards,

Bug#298967: NMU to fix non-free font RC bug

2005-03-13 Thread Micah Anderson
Hi Micah, while I appreciate your efforts, this NMU unfortunately was
unnecessary, the current bglibs packages in sarge are fine.

Hi Gerrit,

I should've noted in the NMU that I did this because of the BSP this
weekend, we are trying to resolve as many RC bugs as possible. I
suspected that since you hadn't replied yet, that this report was most
probably true. But I see now that it is not!

Peter, the file /usr/share/doc/bglibs-doc/latex/Helvetica.ttf in the
bglibs-doc package is from the GPL upstream tarball. The font actually
is generated by the doxygen package, which Debian also distributes under
 the GPL.

If this is true, then my NMU should be knocked out and this bug should
be closed, no?

Micah

Bug#299233: conffile

2005-03-13 Thread Justin Pryzby
It should not be a conffile, since it is created/modified by postinst.

But also, I don't really follow what the postinst is doing.

# This writes to $CONFIG
if [ ! -e $CONFIG ];
then
echo templatedir= $CONFIG
fi

# But this later overwrites it, unconditionally, so I don't see the
# point of the conditional above.
mv -f $CONFIG.tmp $CONFIG

Also, I don't see the need to provide an example file since it is so
simple (and written by debconf).

On that note, I think that the output file should be marked Created
by debconf. Use dpkg-reconfigure cgiemail to reconfigure.

Justin

Bug#298731: can you still reproduce this?

2005-03-13 Thread Jay Lawrence
Hi Stew,
This is what my guys tell me:
---snip---
The problem was (and it still is) in the web.xml files that must have
as validation a dtd file from
 http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/web-app_2_4.xsd

If you look there you'll find that includes other files and one of the
is j2ee_1_4.xsd;
If you go to :
http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/j2ee_1_4.xsd
you'll see that includes the following:

http://www.ibm.com/webservices/xsd/j2ee_web_services_client_1_1.xsd

page that was recently removed from IBM website.

Now, the problem is why other instances of jetty are using local
validation files and this one is using remote files. I'll try to find
why.
---/snip---

It seems that the general strategy - as I believe is done with Jetty
5.1.x - is to include these files in distributions - rather than rely
on the publisher (such as IBM) to correctly host these DTDs.

Back to you and thanks for looking into this!

CAN-2004-0967 describes multiple insecure uses of temporary files in

Of these, ps2epsi and pv.sh were all I could find in Debian, in the
gs-common package.=20

ps2epsi is clearly vulnerable:

tmpfile=3D/tmp/ps2epsi$$

I think this part of pv.sh is vulnerable, if it happens to be run in /tmp or
another world-writable directory.

dvips -p $PAGE -n 1 $FILE $* -o $FILE.$$.pv

Bug#299308: Depends on libhowl0

 Justification: libhowl0 moving to non-free

As discussed on irc, vino on at least ppc depends on libhowl0. Which is
   unfortunately non-free.

For now it seems the best solution is to add --as-needed to you LDFLAGS.

To fix this grave bug, it is sufficient to rebuild the package against a
current unstable system.

The --as-needed flag is promising for the future, but it's currently
regarded as experimental by upstream, and it's not necessarily a good idea
to add it to LDFLAGS so close to release.

may be an iptables problem). I've already reassigned it back.

Bug#289646: On-the-Fly spell checking causing kbabel to crash

2005-03-13 Thread Adeodato Simó
Hello Stanislav,

we received in Debian a bug report claiming that KBabel crashed with a
certain .po file, and that it seemed to be related to on-the-fly spell
checking. You can read the full discussion at [1].

[1] http://bugs.debian.org/289646

The crash is reproducible for me when going to the entry #98 in the
file mentioned in the report, being the spell checker language
English. I suspect the crash is triggered because that entry is a
little long, and as the checker language doesn't match the entry
language (English vs. Spanish), a lot of misspelling signals are
  emitted.

I've been having a look this afternoon, and after a lot of struggling
I came to realice that using checkWord() instead of check() seems to
improve things. There is this comment in kbabel/kbhighlighting.cpp:

// yes I tried checkWord, the docs lie and it didn't give useful signals :-(

However, is more than 2 years old, and checkWord() seems to do fine
here. Perhaps you could considering making the change?

Also, it may be that kdelibs is at fault, too (as per the backtrace).
Sadly, I lack the knowledge to determine that, and anyway it seems
that applications should really use the proper function that the API
  provides (checkWord, in this case).

  Thanks for considering,

Bug#299370: xlibs: the keyboard is useless in X on Ultra 1 Creator

2005-03-13 Thread Florin Iucha
Package: xlibs

Justification: breaks unrelated software

I have installed X on a Sun Ultra 1 with Creator graphics.

The keyboard works fine in framebuffer, but fails in X: it prints
different characters. This problem makes X and any other gui software
unusable on Sparc.

Bug#299372: wordpress: Update shows blank front page

2005-03-13 Thread Toni Heinonen
Package: wordpress
Version: 1.5.0-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Apparently letting it install the index.php that came with the upgrade I now
found on the server makes
it only show an empty front page. Looks like index.php is stripped of most of
its contents. Was the
file really broken upstream?

Bug#299378: wordpress: Updated package doesn't update database

2005-03-13 Thread Toni Heinonen
Package: wordpress

After updating wordpress to a newer version, the database format seems to have
changed. However, the
package doesn't upgrade the database, and after a wordpress upgrade, it's
impossible to post new posts

2005-03-13 Thread Jay Lawrence
Stew,
My programmer tells me:
The real problem is something else. The web.xml files have to be
validated only for 2.4 servlet specification not for 2.3 the version
used in debian package.

They should change either the webdefaults.xml not to be validated,
change the jetty parameter to avoid validation or switch to 2.4 servlet
specification that has the validation files included in the
javax.servlet.jar

Bug#296433: umbrello bug news

2005-03-13 Thread Justin Pryzby
Hi,

Is there any news on this bug [0]? Its not clear from the bug log
that its even present in a version distributed by Debian.

(Most importantly: is it present in testing?)

Ben, were you using a debian version of the package when you
experienced the bug, or one from CVS?

Thanks,
Justin

My experience with similar bugs is that reproduction results can be
improved by actually fetching the package (apt-get source ...) from a

I tried to reproduce with the src package I submitted to my sponsor but the

I'll fix that ASAP, thx for reporting and advising.

Bug#299441: screen artifacts / widgets not rendering

2005-03-13 Thread Matthew Hawkins
Package: blender
Version: 2.36-1
Severity: grave

Bugs 239184 and 291888 seem to refer to an abhorrent behaviour which I
also witness - namely that none of the widgets render correctly or at
all. I'm setting the severity high as it does render the thing
unusable.

I am running an X.org server w/DRI enabled, and the workaround in
bug 239184 does resolve the problem for me. ie, launching like so:

$ LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 blender

gives me a useable interface again. This should perhaps be mentioned in
a README.Debian or somesuch. I have a Matrox G450 and am using XFCE 4.2
(sometimes WM/DE's matter ;). I'm using the upstream X.org and
dri.sf.net drivers from a package supplied here:

deb http://www.nixnuts.net/files/ ./
deb-src http://www.nixnuts.net/files/ ./

Cheers,
