Bug#278126: silo: missing build-depnds on sparcutils
tags 278126 sarge thanks This bug has been fixed in the upload of silo 1.4.9-1 to unstable, although the bug report was not closed due to a syntax error in the changelog file. Hi Torsten, It seems that because of this and several other bugs that are not easily resolvable in the sarge time frame, as well as pressure from upstream, we are going to be backing out PHP's ZTS support in the next day or so; at which point this bug will be a non-issue for us. Upon investigation I found that debian/rules is calling two scripts: build-discover (which attempts to download the source for curl, expat and discover) and build-paste (which attempts to grab the source for coreutils). This is total and utter madness, I've never come across anything so odd before in my experience of Debian packaging. You must not assume even the existence of a network connection from a buildd never mind the ability to run apt-get. It must be possible to build a package inside a self-contained chroot. You should also note that there is a high chance that the apt source urls will not be listed in typical chroots. I am absolutely certain that you really do not need to download the source code for each of these packages and then build them. There must be a better way to achieve what you are trying to do here. Bug#300953: nice: FTBFS: halts on nice.tools.compiler.console: parsing
Hi Roland, Thanks for your report. Which runtime did you use to try to build? The transcript points to kaffe, but the reports says: pn kaffe | java-virtual-machine Not found. which seems to imply that kaffe is not installed. Version numbers would be useful too. In any case, I am aware that free runtimes have a hard time build recent versions of Nice (which is why the version in Debian is outdated). I'm in the process of testing several options and filing bug reports. If anybody can help, please let me know, that would be very useful, since I'm also quite busy working on upstream. clone 299875 -1 reassign -1 ppp retitle -1 ppp_2.4.3 pppd hangs on re-connect tags -1 - patch tags -1 - security severity -1 important thanks The security issue does not seem relevant to this bug, according to the submitter. Hence reassign to ppp, where downgrading solves the issue. This might be still security related (DoS), but I doubt it. I lowered the severity to important, because only one (albeit important) feature does not work, namly re-connect. So the initial connect works. Since the submitter cannot trigger it manually and has a script for re-connects in place, a possible workaround would be to manually disconnect in time, e.g., before the provider disconnects, and then manually re-connect. Of course, the true problem should still be found here. Greetings Helge -- Dr. Helge Kreutzmann, Dipl.-Phys. Bug#297806: util-vserver: FTBFS in experimental
Some further notes about util-vserver's failure to build from source: * dietlibc-dev on hppa fails to define O_FOLLOW and O_LARGEFILE. Adding these to CFLAGS allows util-vserver to build until it fails to link, because the linking looks for /usr/lib/diet/lib-hppa instead of /usr/lib/diet/lib-parisc, which dietlibc-dev provides. I believe, but have not tested (since it would require root) that if that is fixed in dietlibc, util-vserver will build on hppa. * Similarly to hppa, everything should work on mipsel after dietlibc-dev provides /usr/lib/diet/lib-mipsel instead of /usr/lib/diet/lib-mips (or after libtool is changed to use the .../lib-mips directory). * Steve Langasek reported on IRC that adding -mv8 to CFLAGS should make util-vserver build on sparc. This means util-vserver won't work on the oldest sparcs, but we (or the kernel and glibc) don't seem to support them anyway. * m68k shouldn't build util-vserver at all, since dietlib-dev does not exist on that platform. I have mailed the Package-arch-specific maintainers that util-vserver should be added to that file to prevent build daemons from building util-vserver in vain (forgot to Cc Ola, sorry). * I couldn't replicate the build problem on trex.debian.org, which is an s390 machine. I assume the problem was transient. I can provide a patch for debian/rules for conditionally adding arch-specific stuff to CFLAGS, but later tonight or tomorrow. Again, I hope this is helpful. Happy hacking. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It lacks build-deps: on lynx, which is used to generate Changelog from Changelog.html 2. It does not compile with a less forgiving java compilers than, I supect, kjc is. Basically the root dir of the sources is tmp, so 'cd tmp/bsh' does not put you into the root dir, as intended. Then javac is not able to find ie. tmp/bsh/bsh/NameSpace (= bsh.NameSpace) and compilation fails. A patch for the second problem is attached, please apply. Thanks cheers, Grzegorz B. Bug#301075: yacc/bison breakage on kullervo chroot, please reschedule etpan-ng
Package: bison Version: 1.875d-1 Severity: serious Synopsis: installation of bison does not properly install the yacc alternatives symlinks - see below. I think I ran into this a few months back. It had to do with alternatives -- very odd. Odd indeed. I found a stale yacc alternatives file for bison (byacc) on kullervo, that might have prevented proper alternatives installation. /usr/bin/yacc needs to point to /etc/alternatives/yacc /etc/alternatives/yacc needs to point to /usr/bin/bison.yacc Which should be taken care of by bison's postinstall script. It seems like I had to do something like update-alternatives --auto yacc Which constitutes a bug in bison. This section of bison.postinst if [ $1 != upgrade ] ; then update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/yacc yacc /usr/bin/bison.yacc 100 \ --slave /usr/share/man/man1/yacc.1.gz yaccman /usr/share/man/man1/bison.1.gz fi doesn't work at all. Funny enough, after a single invocation of update-alternatives --auto, it does. Hence, adding that to the postinst seems like a good idea. Bug filed. Bug#301080: Debian and gaim-encryption's compilation with OpenSSL
Hi, A couple of news of interest: Firstly, gaim-encryption has finally been uploaded to Debian's unstable branch. It's now instalable by all Debian users, there's no more need for my personal repository to contain Gaim-encryption's packages. This might actually generate a lot of bug reports[1] and I wondered if it's ok for me to forward you the ones related specifically with gaim-enc's programming? One of such bugs has already appeared[2] and is related to linking to OpenSSL[3]. This is really minor and I assume you'll have no problem inserting a exeption in the licence just to keep Debian's accute sense of legal problems sane =] If there's any problem whatsoever, please let me know. Cheers [1] http://bugs.debian.org/gaim-encryption [2] http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=301080 [3] http://www.openssl.org/support/faq.html#LEGAL2 -- Leo Antunes [EMAIL PROTECTED] | [EMAIL PROTECTED] | [EMAIL PROTECTED] signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Bug#301075: On #301075: bison and yacc alternatives
On Wed, Mar 23, 2005 at 06:41:09PM +0100, Michael Schmitz wrote: I think I ran into this a few months back. It had to do with alternatives -- very odd. Odd indeed. I found a stale yacc alternatives file for bison (byacc) on kullervo, that might have prevented proper alternatives installation. This is not the first time this had happened -- see #289139. It seems like I had to do something like update-alternatives --auto yacc Which constitutes a bug in bison. I respectfully disagree. The bison package handles alternatives the way it is supposed to. There are two ways to look at the breakage: 1. Another package (an old version of byacc, see #283174) broke the alternatives system, and as a result bison installation fails to work as expected. You can always break the alternatives system one way or the other, and I do not consider it reasonable to blame the resulting malfunction to bison. 2. If you think that bison should work even under this specific breakage (after all the byacc link is obviously stale), you need to fix dpkg instead of bison. Funny enough, after a single invocation of update-alternatives --auto, it does. Hence, adding that to the postinst seems like a good idea. Bug filed. This bug workaround overrides a system configuration option set by the administrator, thus I do not consider it a valid fix. As I explained, the right fix belongs in dpkg instead of bison anyway. So this bug can go in one of the two directions: 1. Nothing needs to be done. We close the bug. 2. Something needs to be done. We assign this bug to dpkg. Let me know your thoughts. In either event, it is not an RC bug in bison to clean up after byacc's historical breakage. Thanks, -- Steve Langasek postmodern programmer signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#299922: mailscanner: lock/pid file location violates fhs
Matthias Klose wrote: please elaborate, why you think that pid files are created in /tmp. mailscanner-4.39.6/etc$ grep -r /tmp . ./MailScanner.conf:Lockfile Dir = /tmp please re-read my question. Thanks, Matthias Sorry, my bug report was not very complete and I was talking about default configuration which is misleading since there are problems with the shipped virus scanner scripts as well: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/MailScanner/autoupdate$ grep /tmp * antivir-autoupdate:$LockFile = /tmp/AntiVirBusy.lock; bitdefender-autoupdate:$LockFile = /tmp/BitDefenderBusy.lock; clamav-autoupdate:$LogFile = /tmp/ClamAV.update.log; [25 lines with similar output omitted] The location of the pid file of the master mailscanner process used to be defined in MailScanner.conf. Either it has changed during a recent upgrade or it is a mistake on my part. I don't know. Probably the latter case... Bug#301127: kaboodle dies with sigsev or so when trying to play an mpeg
severity 301127 important stop amd64 is not an official architecture at this point, so this is hardly release critical. It would also be helpful if you updated to the latest packages (unless amd64 is really out of date, kdelibs and kdemultimedia all have updates over the versions listed in your report). Bug#295131: NEW-queue handling after extending group of ftp-master
On Wednesday 23 March 2005 05:33 pm, Bartosz Fenski aka fEnIo wrote: On Wed, Mar 23, 2005 at 11:09:17PM +0100, Joerg Jaspert wrote: Usually NEW-queue was handled by the date of first upload of some package. After tracking of debian-bugs and/or debian-wnpp mailing lists last days I can say it's not true anymore. So could someone explain what are the criterions now? There are criterions for the order? Well, ok. Lets define some: - How much money did you sent to one ftpmaster/assistant? - How much do you intent to send? - Are you a girl? - Alcohol level? - Random picking. I could apply for fourth alternatively. Or maybe fifth but with the 1/4 probability :P Actually there are none, as the queue should be (soon) small enough to not need any. So we havent bothered too look for rules, just started. The reason for the random order is just me, approving old and new uploads - to get the queue smaller and not let newer uploads rot in the queue as long as some old stuff. Ok. That's something what I wanted to hear. Great to see that NEW queue is handled at all and that I had to wait for answer so short ;) Looking at the queue noone needs to worry about that, so please do something more useful like RC bug fixing. :) Believe me I'm trying to investigate and fix #295131. Btw any ideas/help are welcome. Second RC bug for scorched3d is fixed both in upstream and on my box, but without fixing first one there's no need to upload. Once again hints for #295131 are welcome, since afaik it works on sarge, and not on sid so we've got probably some interesting bug in libglib or something relevant. regards fEnIo I have know idea if this would work, but what about using libwxgtk2.5.3 rather than libwxgtk2.4? I don't know how much porting effort if any would be involved in that, but libwxgtk2.5.3 seems to be built against libglib2.0 like scorched3d and libSDL, whereas (as the bug report says) libwxgtk2.4 is linked against libglib1.2. I've submitted this bug already, but since I did not get any replay, I thought it'd be better to do that again. After upgrading to wvdial 1.54 from testing, I had problems with my USB motorola Phone. Basically, what I get is --Cannot open /dev/ttyACM0: Cannot get information for serial port It does this also when I run wvdial as root and it kept on doing it even with the new version of libwvstreams4.0-extras. It still works wvdial-1.53.0.1 that I have reinstalled. Bug#301141: liblablgtk2-ocaml: Fails to install because of wrong dependency on ocaml-base-3.08
On Thu, Mar 24, 2005 at 12:56:42AM +0100, Bas Kloet wrote: Package: liblablgtk2-ocaml Version: 2.4.0+2004.11.19-3 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable This package depends on ocaml-base-3.08, but it should simply depend on ocaml-base. This renders it uninstallable. Please, did you read the ocaml changelog ? The ocaml-base-3.08 is there on purpose, and it shoulod most defenitively be there, since ocaml releases are binary incompatible, forcing us to do a full rebuild each time a new version is released. This is currently underway, and i uploaded the fixed lablgtk2 yesterday evening after dinstall, so it should show up in the archive this evening. It was a wee bit too early, and it failed to build on hppa, ia64 and s390, because the lablgl dependency altough built, failed to upload in time. If you don't feel like getting such random breakages of unstable, just run testing :) Closing this bug which is not really a bug but a feature.
