Bug#297806: Dietlibc

Could not find any bugreport about that. I do not know. I have not checked yet. I'll file a bugreport about it. Hi, looking at the build log snippet in this bug report I would simply give the 'diet' compiler wrapper the -Os option (or better yet -v -Os to be verbose) so that it adjusts the gcc options. On sparc it then adds -mcpu=supersparc which should fix this problem. The 'diet -v -Os' wrapper should also be used for the linker. Bug#265165: error when symlink exists but target doesn't
Hi, Relatedly: when /etc/network/run exists as a symlink to /dev/shm/network, but /dev/shm/network doesn't exist (which for some reason was the case here), the script fails with `The canonical path of /etc/network/run could not be determined. Aborting'. Removing the symlink seems to have solved it, might be a good idea to do that automatically (or, at least, suggest it in the error message). Please update that to the latest version. This Vcalendar does not compile with latest libical version :-/ It's also trying to make a shared library without using -fPIC. This also causes build failures on other arches and is probably the result of not using libtool properly. It also linking staticly to it, so it should probably be easy to work around that. Could you to explain me how? Sorry for being dense but I don't see what workaround are you referring to. I don't want to install the library globally but the plugin needs it, how can I achieve this without static linking? Is there a reason that libical isn't a seperate package? Can it be useful for other programs to link to? Seems there was more than one when I tried to package it... Bug#300117: revelation Don't start
severity 300117 important thanks This bug only affects compatibility with old versions of packages from testing, and therefore is not release-critical. Stefan, the problem here is that you depend on a series of python2.3-specific packages (python (= 2.3), python2.3-crypto, libxml2-python2.3), but then you also depend on python-gtk2 and python-gnome2, which don't specify which version of python they depend on. The current python-gtk2 package *still* doesn't say what version of python it requires, so previous versions probably didn't either; the current python-gnome package has a dependency on python (= 2.3), python ( 2.4), so it appears to work correctly on upgrades, but historical versions may have been broken. Bug#301267: FIX: libant1.6-java: FTBFS: Jikes could not find package java.lang
tags 301267 patch thanks Since a few months SableVM's class library is compressed, so the /usr/share/sablevm/sablevm-classpath does not contain it. The preferred interface for finding the boot class path has always been `cat /usr/share/sablevm/classlib.pth`, while the rules had the path hardcoded. In any case, the upstream now includes a stable path: /usr/lib/sablevm/jre/lib/rt.jar for the boot class library, so the attached patch modifies the debian/rules to use it. This resolves one problem, but I am getting: build: Created dir: /tmp/libant1.6-java-1.6.2/build/lib Compiling 218 source files to /tmp/libant1.6-java-1.6.2/build/classes Error: -source only recognizes Java releases 1.3 (JLS 2 features), 1.4 (assert statement), and 1.5 (partial support beta, see NEWS for supported features). use: jikes [options] [EMAIL PROTECTED] file.java... It's that diet libc is meant to produce statically linked binaries optimized for size; that's what it's designed for. Here're the options it uses on Debian, I'm not aware of any problems they cause. As it's explained to me, util-vserver's use of dietlibc has nothing to do with a need for small binaries; it's because the package is used in a chroot-intensive environment and should not depend on glibc's NSS. As a result, I don't see any reason to use -Os when building util-vserver. Ah ok. I now also see it's the upstream author of util-vserver who contributed most of the changes that I included in the recent upload to the dietlibc development ;-). Looks like he put quite some work into it.. I think the idea of having -Os do *anything* besides setting -Os is shaky, FWIW. Other than overriding the CPU selection on sparc, the other problem I see with the chosen options is that you use -fomit-frame-pointer everywhere, which discards valuable debugging information for no discernible gain... Nearly all of the options is upstream's choice, and I think the porters of the different architectures measured the efficiency of the options regarding size optimization. Generally I prefer to make as less changes to upstream as possible, and these options are in place for quite some time, used with various compiler version. I well understand your point of view though. Thanks, Gerrit. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Symptoms: Video display: fine when using GDK, reverse video (or rather: magenta on cyan) when using XV for display in the edit and trim menus. Audio in edit/trim mode is fine BTW (see audio problems below). Video export: when using the MPEG export with mjpegtools 1.6.2-0.7 (built from source from Christian Marillat's site), mp2enc fails to produce output with a message like EOF in WAV header when searching for tag data The resulting .mpv file shows the same reverse video effects as the XV display in edit/trim mode. Audio export: Exporting to WAV format directly results in audio data that can't be used with mp2enc, while exporting to WAV format using sox generates correct data (feeding such data to the MPEG encode process results in reverse video, correct audio files). Using ffmpeg (20041227-0.1, built from source from Christian Marillat's site as well), exporting as DivX or DVD results in correct color video, while the audio stream is loud noise. Verbose output in ffmpeg shows audio format detection as pcm_s16le. Suspecting an endianness bug here, I've hacked ffmpeg to decode pcm 16 bit data as big endian regardless of detected data type, which gives perfect audio encoding in DivX or DVD exports. I suspect kino declares BE audio data to be LE in the DV export (or indeed any) pipe. No idea what's the cause of the XV and mpeg2enc endianness problems though. Since you only want to link staticly, there is no need to make the shared version. Only the shared version requires the -fPIC. It shouldn't be too hard to let it only make the static version. Kurt -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#299939: gkdial
#299939 and #218014 likely have the same cause. Someone might consider downgrading #299939 and/or merging them. It seems that both are caused by a user-trigged disconnect event while in a state when disconnect should be disallowed. A proper solution probably requires glib synchronization, but I'll bet that the problems can be visibly solved by something like: /* * runs the command the user defined to disconnect */ void gk_disconnect (GtkWidget * button, gpointer data) { GkDial *gkdial = (GkDial *) data; gchar *disconnect_cmd = DOWNCMD; + + if (!disconnect_valid) return; + disconnect_valid=0; /* * this shows that gkdial was the responsible for the connection * being * closed */ gkdial-was_gkdial = FALSE; gkdial_exec (gkdial, disconnect_cmd, DISCONNECTING); } where disconnect_valid is a global variable, set to TRUE at the appropriate time, and set to FALSE above, and while redialing. I'm having trouble testing this since I don't have a linmodem.. Justin -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#301038: imagefs crash
tag 301038 patch thanks It appears that the imagefs crash can be avoided by pre-creating the file. It will crash if the file doesn't exist, but seems to succeed if you /usr/bin/touch the file beforehand. There's something wrong with the constructor CImage::CImage. When you try to create a file, its boolean create parameters is true; but the code is wrong somehow, and strace has: open(z, O_RDWR) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) instead of creat(z). So, someone that actually knows something about c++ needs to look at the code an either create the file beforehand, or add a flag similar to O_CREAT. There are other problems, too, but they seem to be caused only by lack of input checking: $ imagefs d a Read directory from image file [a]. Fatal: could not open file a. Directory listing: Segmentation fault (core dumped) $ imagefs r a c Remove files from image file [a]. Fatal: could not open file a. Segmentation fault (core dumped) That's pretty simple to solve: catch (...) { cout Fatal: could not open file pcImageFile . endl; + return 1; } There are several instances of these. Probably there should be a wrapper function which outputs Fatal: %s to stderr, and exit(1) (or whatever the c++ification of exit is). Bug#288180: nis kills sparc64
Discussion on IRC about fixing this for release: vorlon joeyh: we have non-security-related RC bugs in the sparc kernel that aren't fixed in kernel-image-2.6.8-sparc 2.6.8-6. Is rebuilding d-i for a sparc update only better or worse than rebuilding for everything? (Can we do that as a binNMU of d-i?) vorlon the one I'm talking about is 288180 * joeyh notes that this will be significantly easier to do after a freeze, when I can know that we have full control over what things have changed vorlon kernels are all effectively frozen now anyway, fwiw fjp Including the kernel configs. joeyh yes, but everything else vorlon yes, well. :) vorlon so you'd like to let this one sit until we've frozen? joeyh if say, nothing that breaks d-i happens to get into testing by accident, then yes, we can binnmu d-i for sparc, rebuild cds and qual it, I'd not imagine more than a day's work -- Steve Langasek postmodern programmer signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#294501: php4-pgsql: php4-psql causes apache to segfault upon startup
Matt Brown said: - Uncomment mod_ssl and the segfault vanishes - Comment either of the modules in php.in and the segfault vanishes - Remove virtual host and the segfault vanishes - Remove config_log_module or dir_module and the segfault vanishes Hrm, on my system, I got the segv even with a more minmal config (I can remove the vhost, log_module, and dir_module, and it still dies). It's been great fun (although time consuming!) tracking all this down, so I hope it helps to solve the bug! If I reverse imap.so and pgsql.so in my php.ini (so that pgsql is loaded first), my segv disappears. I don't suppose you'd have any luck with trying that as well? My backtrace looks different from yours, but with different package versions, different arches (i386 versus PPC), and a corrupt stack, this isn't really surprising. ...
