I asked him to do it. It seems that he still has the account, but I have

*very* probable that he does not have a CVS checkout. So I don't expect

I think it was already a case when the license changed (in KMail,
adding the Qt exception?), and I don't think the change was committed
by every single copyright holder. You know, what is the case when the
same file has many copyright holders. Who makes the commit?

Bug#296514: Cervisia licensing: moving forward?

2005-03-26 Thread Ben Burton

Hi again,

At this stage it seems that everyone is happy to go with a dual QPL/GPL
license for cervisia. My question now is how to go forward with the change.

Thiago has written with the following instructions:

If you people are ok with a dual license, then please place notices in
all your files that the file is dual-licensed.

Only the copyright holder can do that. Commit the changes to
KDE_3_3_BRANCH, HEAD and ask Coolo for instructions on KDE_3_4_BRANCH.

The copyright holders whose names appear in the relevant sources are
Bernd Gehrmann, Christian Loose and André Wöbbeking. Would it be
possible for each of you to make the relevant commits? Coolo, do you
have any specific requests or instructions for KDE_3_4_BRANCH?

I'm not sure if Bernd Gehrmann still uses his CVS account. Andras,
would it be in any way possible to find out if Bernd wishes to make
these changes himself, and if not to obtain some form of authorisation?
I'm not sure how formal the KDE project requires this to be, though I
expect an unsigned email would not suffice (since such a thing is easily
spoofed). If anyone knows more about KDE policy on such matters then
their input would be appreciated.

For reference I've included a list below of files in KDE_3_4_BRANCH with
the relevant author names in the copyright headers. I believe this
covers all the files in KDE_3_3_BRANCH as well, though there may be new
files in HEAD or the subversion_support branch; I haven't looked into those.
Note that no changes are needed for cervisia/cvsservice, since those files
are already LGPL.

Many thanks again to everyone for their help in this matter, and I
apologise for the tedium that accompanies it.

Ben.

Bug#301471: checkstyle: FTBFS: Missing Build-Depends on 'cdbs'

Particularly when filing release-critical bugs against a package, please
include the package version that it's known to apply against.

For FTBFS reports, it is also generally useful to indicate whether your
build environment was unstable or testing. (Obviously it shouldn't matter
in the case of a missing build-dep.)

For the record, this bug appears to apply to both 3.4-3 in testing and 3.4-6
in unstable, since both use cdbs and neither mention it in
Build-Depends-Indep.

Yes, he wrote that if the licensing of the Cervisia part is a
problem for applications embedding or using it, it is fine for me
to change the license to GPL.

Bug#301479: fails to start w/o config with bogus Xlib error messages

2005-03-26 Thread Eduard Bloch
Package: mozilla-firefox
Version: 1.0.2-1
Severity: grave

Hello,

when I kill all mozilla-firefox and mozilla instanzes and wipe out the
.mozilla and .firefox directories, mozilla-firefox fails to start with
following message:

Xlib: connection to :0.0 refused by server
Xlib: XDM authorization key matches an existing client!

(firefox-bin:12546): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

This makes no sense. With strace -f, I see multiple openings of the
.Xauthority file and only after a while it simply breaks.

When I run host + and start FF once, then it does work after that,
even with host -.

Regards,
Eduard.

Bug#300522: gal: FTBFS: gnome-autogen.sh: aclocal: AM_LC_MESSAGES not found

2005-03-26 Thread Steve Langasek
tags 300522 sid
thanks

This bug only shows up in sid, where gettext has been upgraded to version
0.14.2-1. The AM_LC_MESSAGES macro has been renamed to gt_LC_MESSAGES in
this version, and gal expects this macro to be available from an external
source.

Currently, the best fix for this is to include a verbatim copy of the needed
macro in the macros/ directory, so that it's always available. Updating the
code to use gt_LC_MESSAGES instead is possible, but only once the updated
gettext is in testing, which I currently don't expect to happen for sarge.

Post-sarge, this hopefully won't be an issue at all; I hope we'll be phasing
out the old packages still using gal before the etch release.

Cheers,

Bug#294404: udev and mdadm mess

2005-03-26 Thread Dimitri Puzin
Package: mdadm
Version: 1.9.0-1
Followup-For: Bug #294404
Hello,
I've been trying to setup md-raid on a system using udev and ran
across the problem described in this bug. AFAICS udev won't
create device nodes as long as there is no device initialized in
the kernel. OTOH mdadm insists on having a device node for the
RAID before it is built. So far my understanding of the problem.

Now my solution. mdadm 1.9.0 has the auto option for the
mdadm.conf file. However it seems to be picky about the position
of that statement inside the conf file. So far, it has worked
for me only if auto=md was the last statement for the ARRAY
definition. Another problem: it seems that DEVICE partitions
in mdadm.conf doesn't properly detect all raid partitions.
I've replaced that line with the old-style def. Here my working
mdadm.conf:
DEVICE /dev/sda*, /dev/sdb*
ARRAY /dev/md0
level=raid1
num-devices=2
UUID=
devices=/dev/sda1,/dev/sdb1
auto=md
This works nicely on a couple of machines here. The partitions
are type 0xFD (raid autodetect).
Hope that helps.
Warm regards,
-Dimitri

2005-03-26 Thread Miquel van Smoorenburg
Package: sysklogd
Version: 1.4.1-16
Severity: grave
Justification: breaks the whole system

References:
  http://lkml.org/lkml/2005/3/26/37
  https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=103392
  http://lkml.org/lkml/2004/12/21/208

Syslogd can hang if domark() is called while the main loop is just
calling in the ctime() libc function. ctime() is not reentrant
and will make syslogd hang (with recent glibc and 2.6 kernels,
because glibc uses __libc_lock which uses a [fm]utex).

Because AF_UNIX SOCK_DGRAM sockets are blocking by default under
Linux, after a short while everything on the system that calls
syslog() will hang as well. Which means you can't login anymore,
and almost all other network services hang as well.
Also cron will fork every now and again and call syslog() so the
whole process table will fill up. The system is fubared.

The original syslogd protects itself from this by blocking SIGHUP
and SIGALRM in logmsg(), but that is under #ifndef SYSV.

The attached patch fixes this by adding POSIX sigprocmask calls
in logmsg(), as that is the simplest fix.

Non-bug related comments:

A better fix would be to just set a flag in domark() and check that
flag every so often in the mainloop and do the MARKing there.

Someone should take out all the #ifdef/#ifndef SYSV stuff and
replace it with POSIX routines so that this syslogd compiles
under all modern OSes. I think that it doesn't even compile
without #define SYSV anymore, anyway.

Mike.

Hello David,

There is a licencing issue with the fonts shipped in the tulip
tarball. It would surely be possible to replace them, for example with
fonts from the Vera series.

I can easily adapt the Debian package to replace the ttf files
(although I'll have to shipped a modified tarball with those non-free
bits removed).

But the Fonts.bmp file annoys me a little : how did you produce it ?
Although it does not seem to be derived from the Luxi fonts, it would
be nice to have a Makefile rule, or even just a README, to help
regenerate it from another font (ie. it is probably not the preferred
form of the work for making modifications to it that would qualify as
source code for the GPL - although the original font is probably not
covered by the GPL).

Cordialement,

Thanks for the NMU. I uploaded a version which included your changes

I'm not really sure what to say. None of that code has been modified in

Are you sure the device labels are correct? mdadm shows /dev/md0 starting
as a raid0, but you're trying to mount /dev/md1.

 /dev/md1:
The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2
filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2
filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the
 superblock
is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate
 superblock:
 e2fsck -b 8193 device

Bug#301518: clamsmtp: Plain installation on sarge fails with /var/lib/ucf/cache not existing

I am unable to reproduce this error. This is very strange, indeed. I
cannot seem to find any reference to that directory in the source code
for 1.2, nor in the package. Can you run clamsmtpd from the command
line with the option '-d 4' and include the output in another email to
this bug report?

If you're patient, clamsmtp_1.3-1 should migrate to testing shortly. I
should have clamsmtp_1.4-1 uploaded by Monday.

 is a bug in dpkg?

You know, it's entirely possible that this was left over screwage from
some other fontconfig/defoma/whatever mess.

Bug#246486: [Craig P. Steffen craig@craigsteffen.net] drop package roleplaying from Debian

2005-03-26 Thread Thomas Bushnell BSG
---BeginMessage---
Hi Tomas,

You contacted me a while back about the roleplaying package, which I
have set to ITA. Your last comment on bug 246486 was that fixing it
and bringing it up to date would be the be difficult, and perhaps the
package should just be removed.

I think that's a good assessment. There was an update January of
2004. The last one before that was 2002. I think given that, and the
difficulty of fixing it, and the license changing, that it's best to
just flush it.

Are you a DD? I assume, then, that it's easier for you to get the
ball rolling on that one.

Sorry I fell out of touch on this. I'm trying again to get back into
that game. The first thing I'm doing is cleaning out old cruft that I
left lying around.

Thanks,

Craig Steffen

Bug#301518: clamsmtp : ucf not installed

2005-03-26 Thread browaeys . alban
Hi

Could you confirm that the ucf pacakge is not installed on your
box.

$ dpkg -l ucf

A workaround would be to install it before retrying to
install/upgrade clamsmtp. Please test ucf before.

Maye clamsmtp use ucf but miss a dependency on it.

Cheers
Alban

Bug#301552: konqueror: Random freezes (whole system) just after entering url

2005-03-26 Thread Alan Chandler
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:3.4.0-0pre2
Severity: critical
Tags: experimental
Justification: breaks the whole system

I have been using kde 3.4 for a couple of weeks now. I have just done an
aptitude
update today, although I am not 100% sure whether this package got updated in
this
update (last update was only a few days ago). However, almost
immediately however the system starting locking up solidly (I could not
even ping the machine from elsewhere on my local network and get a
response) just after I hit return after entering a URL. (Not every
time, although it appears to be most times)

To confuse the issue slightly, I have just installed a new harddrive and
this has made me suspect a hardware problem. However, I have now
managed to work for some time without touching konqueror, and have not
had a problem.

should have clamsmtp_1.4-1 uploaded by Monday.

clamsmtp depends on clamav-base, and this is where the error is
occuring. It is already fixed in sid, will be in sarge in a week or so,
if all goes well.

Already submitted as 297589 - feel free to reassign, merge, close, etc

Bug#301497: dbconfig-common dependencies

2005-03-26 Thread browaeys . alban
Hi

do you think such a configuration layer should depends on every
database interface ?

Wouldn't it be cleaner to have the package using dbconfig depends
on the database it can work with and have test in dbconfig to
only show option regarding installed databases (or databases
detectable via the already installed db client pacakges ?

I don't feel well with the idea of a layer adding every client
libraries even if no installed program can use most.

A little rationale for this rant :

Thanks for the test and though you put on dbconfig. I am not the
developper but have already though of this problem too (but had
no good idea to resolve it).
The apache config layer currently in debain have the same kind of
problem : it does not depends the scripts it uses (init scripts
of apache, apache-perl ...). Thus if one have some installed ,
configure them with the apache config layer then one deinstall
say apache-perl , it will be impossible to upgrade/desintall teh
package configured with it. I removed apache-perl then the config
layer tried to use /etc/init.d/apache-perl while upgrading
phpwiki ...
This layer needs those init scripts but does not depends on the
packages providing them thus it can led to breakage. (i have not
submitted a bug because i don't agree with the idea of adding
hundreds hack to make it work, i am in fact waiting to see what
will be done in dbconfig-common to manage this problem (as it is
not yet heavily used and not in sarge , api/abi changes are way
easier there.)

If a solution to web application integration in debian is found
it will be in this package or it won't be . This will also have
interesting improvments for rich clients (but those have usually
less complicated setups).

Regards
Alban

PS: sorry if the style is a bit rude. I am always working on
improving my english skills but debian comes first :)

It will be a better solution. But in this moment dbconfig-common *use*
one of them mysql-client or postgresql-client, the other aplication
could not need it.
Policy says:
Every package must specify the dependency information about other
packages that are required for the first to work correctly.
If there no one of postgresql-client and mysql-client, it fails to work
in all case, then it has to depend on (at least) one of them. But
unfortunately, it doesn't solve the problem of the other package.
A possible solution could be if there exists virtual packages
dbconfig-mysql-common and dbconfig-postgres-common that depends on
(mysql or postgres) and dbconfig-common.

this appears to be a missing build-dependency; m4 is priority: standard

package just fine, because this m4 command is not executed there -- it seems
to be some sparc-specific assembly?

This is caused by there being no imap line in inetd.conf: grep exits with

this and treats it as an error.

It looks like this bug was introduced by the fix for 295306; as such, it
applies to both uw-imapd and ipopd.

Thanks for investigating!

Sounds sane - I haven't had time to look into the problem myself yet,
but with this info it should be fairly trivial to correct the error -
I'll have a look at it right away...

You know, it's entirely possible that this was left over screwage from

Ok, downgrading; I'll leave it to the maintainer to evaluate whether this is

Package: python-mysqldb

Severity: grave

Packages connected to apache, odbc, and scripting languages
(python/perl/php/ruby) are in the process of transitioning from
libmysqlclient10 to libmysqlclient12 for sarge. Because libmysqlclient
does not include versioned symbols, it is not possible for multiple
versions of this library to be loaded by a process without causing
segfaults. Since python2.2-mysqldb and python2.3-mysqldb will be loaded
by apache processes that may also have loaded libmysqlclient12,
depending on libmysqlclient12 is therefore a grave bug in
python-mysqldb.

Please rebuild python-mysqldb against libmysqlclient12 by updating
your build depends to point to libmysqlclient12-dev.

Bug #297472 may or may not be caused by the same problem (multiple mysql
libraries loaded).

Bug#301584: libgcj-dev: Uninstallable: Bad dependency

2005-03-26 Thread Daniel Schepler
Package: libgcj-dev
Severity: grave
Version: 4:3.3.5-2

The libgcj-dev package added in today's gcc-defaults upload is
uninstallable since it Depends on `libgcj4-dev (= 4:3.3.5-2)', but
the actual current version of libgcj4-dev is 1:3.3.5-12. I've
attached a patch which fixes the dependency.

true if is actually a waste. The following is POSIXly correct, I beieve:

or must it instead be this:

Either [ or test is fine in POSIX sh, as they're required aliases.

However, I don't think \ is a POSIX test operator -- I think you want -lt
instead.

Where to find good info on POSIX sh syntax?

AIUI the POSIX spec is available for download online, but I don't remember
where.

Otherwise, you could just test your scripts under dash as well as bash.

I really don't like diabling the set -e completely. Is the problem not
 with the grep lines only?

To keep the code compact I'd just append this to the grep lines:

|| true if [ $? \ 2 ]

Or even better (in case true if turns out to be a bashism):

No; it just doesn't work - true ignores its parameters.

|| [ $? \ 2 ] # catch grep failures

That seems to work, but you need -lt (numeric), not (string).

Ah, thanks. So many errors lurking in such little code snippet :-)

Hmm - with good I thought more of easy to digest than official.
Haven't checked but I imagine the spec is similar to RFCs (which is not
easy to digest IMHO).

Otherwise, you could just test your scripts under dash as well as bash.

I know. But info on POSIXly correct coding style is not the same as
throwing code at a (hopefully 100%) POSIXly correct shell and see if it
complains.

Bug#301589: liblircclient-dev: conflict with libirclient (library)

2005-03-26 Thread browaeys . alban
Package: liblircclient-dev
Version: 0.7.1pre2-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

This is a strange conflict (it is the library itself ...)

Unpacking replacement liblircclient-dev ...
dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/liblircclient-dev_0.7.1pre2-3_i386.deb
(--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/usr/lib/liblirc_client.so.0.0.0', which is
also in package liblircclient0

I retried two times in case it would have been installed on the
version if the library but no luck.

Grave : as the -dev cannot be installed without removing the
library it provide headers for . (well --force-overwrite woould
be fix such a conflict without damage )

Cheers

Bug#300424: gthumb: FTBFS: wrong version of automake

2005-03-26 Thread Steve Langasek
This is caused by the Makefile.in in the package being out-of-date relative
to the configure.in and aclocal.m4 files that are patched in the Debian
diff. This package needs to be repacked with freshly-generated aclocal.m4
and Makefile.in files, to get them in sync and prevent this problem in the
future.

2005-03-26 Thread browaeys . alban
Thank you for reporting bug. I've posted bug report to gcc bugzilla

http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=18922

-- Additional Comment #3 From Andrew Pinski 2004-12-10 13:27
[reply] ---

*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 18384 ***

__

It looks like the bug is fixed upstream (as you currently compile
with 3.4)

http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=18384

--- Additional Comment #23 From Jakub Jelinek 2005-03-10
14:22 [reply] ---

Fixed for 3.4/4.0/4.1.

The bug should be reassigned to gcc-3.4 (and other version but
cloned) isn't it ?

Regards
Alban

The libgcj-dev package added in today's gcc-defaults upload is
uninstallable since it Depends on `libgcj4-dev (= 4:3.3.5-2)', but
the actual current version of libgcj4-dev is 1:3.3.5-12. I've
attached a patch which fixes the dependency.

Justification: renders package unusable

This is a strange conflict (it is the library itself ...)

Unpacking replacement liblircclient-dev ...
dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/liblircclient-dev_0.7.1pre2-3_i386.deb
(--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/usr/lib/liblirc_client.so.0.0.0', which is
also in package liblircclient0

I retried two times in case it would have been installed on the
version if the library but no luck.

Grave : as the -dev cannot be installed without removing the
library it provide headers for . (well --force-overwrite woould
be fix such a conflict without damage )

Cheers
Alban

Bug#301598: bootcd: cd cannot boot -- /sbin/init cannot open dev/console

2005-03-26 Thread Rob Ristroph
Package: bootcd
Version: 2.47
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Note that I have previously successfully created working
CDs using bootcd on this installation; the following started
happening after an apt-get upgrade a couple of weeks ago.

When the created ISO is booted, it freezes up, and these
are the last messages on the screen:

pivot_root: No such file or directory
/sbin/init: 426: cannot open dev/console: No such file
Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!

I have the kernel and initrd set correctly in bootcdwrite.conf.

Let me know if I can help by sending you my bootcdwrite.conf file
or the created ISO or parts of it.

Thanks in advance for any attention you can give this, and thanks
for writing bootcd -- I have found it to be an extremely useful
utility.
