I'm not sure how formal the KDE project requires this to be, though I expect an unsigned email would not suffice (since such a thing is easily spoofed). If anyone knows more about KDE policy on such matters then their input would be appreciated. I asked him to do it. It seems that he still has the account, but I have no idea if he uses Linux or not (last time he was not), and it may be *very* probable that he does not have a CVS checkout. So I don't expect that he can do the change himself, but he can send a mail to authorize it. I think it was already a case when the license changed (in KMail, adding the Qt exception?), and I don't think the change was committed by every single copyright holder. You know, what is the case when the same file has many copyright holders. Who makes the commit? Bug#296514: Cervisia licensing: moving forward?
Hi again, At this stage it seems that everyone is happy to go with a dual QPL/GPL license for cervisia. My question now is how to go forward with the change. Thiago has written with the following instructions: If you people are ok with a dual license, then please place notices in all your files that the file is dual-licensed. Only the copyright holder can do that. Commit the changes to KDE_3_3_BRANCH, HEAD and ask Coolo for instructions on KDE_3_4_BRANCH. The copyright holders whose names appear in the relevant sources are Bernd Gehrmann, Christian Loose and André Wöbbeking. Would it be possible for each of you to make the relevant commits? Coolo, do you have any specific requests or instructions for KDE_3_4_BRANCH? I'm not sure if Bernd Gehrmann still uses his CVS account. Andras, would it be in any way possible to find out if Bernd wishes to make these changes himself, and if not to obtain some form of authorisation? I'm not sure how formal the KDE project requires this to be, though I expect an unsigned email would not suffice (since such a thing is easily spoofed). If anyone knows more about KDE policy on such matters then their input would be appreciated. For reference I've included a list below of files in KDE_3_4_BRANCH with the relevant author names in the copyright headers. I believe this covers all the files in KDE_3_3_BRANCH as well, though there may be new files in HEAD or the subversion_support branch; I haven't looked into those. Note that no changes are needed for cervisia/cvsservice, since those files are already LGPL. Many thanks again to everyone for their help in this matter, and I apologise for the tedium that accompanies it. Ben. Bug#300522: gal: FTBFS: gnome-autogen.sh: aclocal: AM_LC_MESSAGES not found
tags 300522 sid thanks This bug only shows up in sid, where gettext has been upgraded to version 0.14.2-1. The AM_LC_MESSAGES macro has been renamed to gt_LC_MESSAGES in this version, and gal expects this macro to be available from an external source. Currently, the best fix for this is to include a verbatim copy of the needed macro in the macros/ directory, so that it's always available. Updating the code to use gt_LC_MESSAGES instead is possible, but only once the updated gettext is in testing, which I currently don't expect to happen for sarge. Post-sarge, this hopefully won't be an issue at all; I hope we'll be phasing out the old packages still using gal before the etch release. Bug#294404: udev and mdadm mess
Package: mdadm Version: 1.9.0-1 Followup-For: Bug #294404 Hello, I've been trying to setup md-raid on a system using udev and ran across the problem described in this bug. AFAICS udev won't create device nodes as long as there is no device initialized in the kernel. OTOH mdadm insists on having a device node for the RAID before it is built. So far my understanding of the problem. Now my solution. mdadm 1.9.0 has the auto option for the mdadm.conf file. However it seems to be picky about the position of that statement inside the conf file. So far, it has worked for me only if auto=md was the last statement for the ARRAY definition. Another problem: it seems that DEVICE partitions in mdadm.conf doesn't properly detect all raid partitions. I've replaced that line with the old-style def. Here my working mdadm.conf: DEVICE /dev/sda*, /dev/sdb* ARRAY /dev/md0 level=raid1 num-devices=2 UUID= devices=/dev/sda1,/dev/sdb1 auto=md This works nicely on a couple of machines here. The partitions are type 0xFD (raid autodetect). Hope that helps. Warm regards, -Dimitri -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#301511: sysklogd: hangs the whole system
Package: sysklogd Version: 1.4.1-16 Severity: grave Justification: breaks the whole system References: http://lkml.org/lkml/2005/3/26/37 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=103392 http://lkml.org/lkml/2004/12/21/208 http://lkml.org/lkml/2004/11/2/17 Syslogd can hang if domark() is called while the main loop is just calling in the ctime() libc function. ctime() is not reentrant and will make syslogd hang (with recent glibc and 2.6 kernels, because glibc uses __libc_lock which uses a [fm]utex). Because AF_UNIX SOCK_DGRAM sockets are blocking by default under Linux, after a short while everything on the system that calls syslog() will hang as well. Which means you can't login anymore, and almost all other network services hang as well. Also cron will fork every now and again and call syslog() so the whole process table will fill up. The system is fubared. The original syslogd protects itself from this by blocking SIGHUP and SIGALRM in logmsg(), but that is under #ifndef SYSV. The attached patch fixes this by adding POSIX sigprocmask calls in logmsg(), as that is the simplest fix. Non-bug related comments: A better fix would be to just set a flag in domark() and check that flag every so often in the mainloop and do the MARKing there. Someone should take out all the #ifdef/#ifndef SYSV stuff and replace it with POSIX routines so that this syslogd compiles under all modern OSes. I think that it doesn't even compile without #define SYSV anymore, anyway. It would surely be possible to replace them, for example with fonts from the Vera series. I can easily adapt the Debian package to replace the ttf files (although I'll have to shipped a modified tarball with those non-free bits removed). But the Fonts.bmp file annoys me a little : how did you produce it ? Although it does not seem to be derived from the Luxi fonts, it would be nice to have a Makefile rule, or even just a README, to help regenerate it from another font (ie. it is probably not the preferred form of the work for making modifications to it that would qualify as source code for the GPL - although the original font is probably not covered by the GPL). Bug#246486: [Craig P. Steffen craig@craigsteffen.net] drop package roleplaying from Debian
---BeginMessage--- Hi Tomas, You contacted me a while back about the roleplaying package, which I have set to ITA. Your last comment on bug 246486 was that fixing it and bringing it up to date would be the be difficult, and perhaps the package should just be removed. I think that's a good assessment. There was an update January of 2004. The last one before that was 2002. I think given that, and the difficulty of fixing it, and the license changing, that it's best to just flush it. Are you a DD? I assume, then, that it's easier for you to get the ball rolling on that one. Sorry I fell out of touch on this. I'm trying again to get back into that game. The first thing I'm doing is cleaning out old cruft that I left lying around. Bug#301497: dbconfig-common dependencies
Hi do you think such a configuration layer should depends on every database interface ? Wouldn't it be cleaner to have the package using dbconfig depends on the database it can work with and have test in dbconfig to only show option regarding installed databases (or databases detectable via the already installed db client pacakges ? I don't feel well with the idea of a layer adding every client libraries even if no installed program can use most. A little rationale for this rant : Thanks for the test and though you put on dbconfig. I am not the developper but have already though of this problem too (but had no good idea to resolve it). The apache config layer currently in debain have the same kind of problem : it does not depends the scripts it uses (init scripts of apache, apache-perl ...). Thus if one have some installed , configure them with the apache config layer then one deinstall say apache-perl , it will be impossible to upgrade/desintall teh package configured with it. I removed apache-perl then the config layer tried to use /etc/init.d/apache-perl while upgrading phpwiki ... This layer needs those init scripts but does not depends on the packages providing them thus it can led to breakage. (i have not submitted a bug because i don't agree with the idea of adding hundreds hack to make it work, i am in fact waiting to see what will be done in dbconfig-common to manage this problem (as it is not yet heavily used and not in sarge , api/abi changes are way easier there.) If a solution to web application integration in debian is found it will be in this package or it won't be . This will also have interesting improvments for rich clients (but those have usually less complicated setups). Regards Alban PS: sorry if the style is a bit rude. I am always working on improving my english skills but debian comes first :) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#300424: gthumb: FTBFS: wrong version of automake
This is caused by the Makefile.in in the package being out-of-date relative to the configure.in and aclocal.m4 files that are patched in the Debian diff. This package needs to be repacked with freshly-generated aclocal.m4 and Makefile.in files, to get them in sync and prevent this problem in the future. -- Steve Langasek postmodern programmer signature.asc Description: Digital signature
