Bug#306639: batik: FTBFS: JAVA_HOME_DIRS incorrect
Hello Arnaud, On 05-Apr-27 23:07, Arnaud Vandyck wrote: Thanks for your bug reports, but you have to know that you can't file FTBFS bugs reports about packages that are in contrib and relay on packages that are not in Debian to build! The non-free JDK's are not officially supported so the packages built with non-free jdk's are not meant to be built 'as is' (I mean without modification). I have no problem with wishlist bugs to ease the build of the package on every arches (which is not needed because these packages are arch: all!) but this is *not* serious bugs! I tried to file only those bugs as 'serious' which can be reproduced on i386. For bugs which are amd64 specific, I usually use 'wishlist' severity. Of course, I may have made a mistake in some cases. At least this particular bug occurs on all arches. It is not very nice to have to read, understand and manually change 'debian/rules' and maybe some other files to get a package built. In particular, this makes any kind of autobuilding impossible, which is a bad thing from a security point of view - and also inconvenient, of course. For the Java related packages, the {sun,ibm,blackdown}-j2sdk1.x packages which can be created by make-jpkg from 'java-package' make it easy to set up an autobuilder, as long as all packages support this by setting the correct JAVA_HOME directories and by specifying the correct Build-Depends. Anyway, I will file those problems as 'wishlist' in the remaining cases. Some other types of bugs like 'Missing Build-Depends on 'junit' or './debian_patch' not executable also appear on all arches including i386. I think those are 'serious' FTBFS bugs, even for packages in 'contrib'. What should be done with those? Any way, I leave all the bug you reported and will try to upload fixes as soon as possible. Thank you for all the fixes to my reports which you already uploaded and for your work in general! Regards Andreas Jochens -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#306639: batik: FTBFS: JAVA_HOME_DIRS incorrect

The definition of contrib is free but needs some stuff not in Debian. For any particular package, this stuff may or may not be something packaged in Debian's non-free archive, but the net result is that contrib is not completely autobuildable, and security support for contrib happens only opportunistically. As a result, I don't think it's a release-critical issue to try to force all Java-based contrib packages into an autobuildable state; it's nice if they autobuild, but Java is just one instance of non-Debian stuff. Make-jpkg is the currently favored method of making j2sdk packages available, but none of the half-dozen mutually-incompatible j2sdk packages (including those generated by make-jpkg) are actually distributed by Debian, so I don't think it's fair to require that contrib java packages be buildable with any particular j2sdk package. By all means, please keep filing (and fixing) bugs so that we can get as many contrib packages as possible autobuilding, but especially with the freeze coming soon, I don't think this should be RC for sarge. Some other types of bugs like 'Missing Build-Depends on 'junit' or './debian_patch' not executable also appear on all arches including i386. I think those are 'serious' FTBFS bugs, even for packages in 'contrib'. What should be done with those? I agree that those should be RC, since they are not about packages we don't distribute. Hi, The only packages that haven't moved to liblog4j1.2-java are: * libjfreereport-java: Upstream comes bundled with 1.2.3, so the switch should be painless. Patch at #306754. * jetty-extra: Upstream comes bundled with 1.2.6, and uses features specific to 1.2; Log4J support is either not used or already broken. Naive patch at #306761. This patch adds 2 preference options: transport layer indicators (TLI) for reader and recorder. Instead of using of USE_ATAPI variable in the code there is GUI options now for user interaction. One who wish to use experimental ATAPI feature can set they to ATAPI. In fact, only cdrecord accepts TLI, but no other eroaster's backends: cdda2wav, cdrdao, readcd (please fix me if i'm wrong). Thus, the value of setting TLI to ATAPI for the reader device is under question. Both TLI options are by default, cdrecord will operate on SCSI bus, in an old style fashion (experimental feature disabled). For me, on a machine with kernel 2.6 the patch doesn't work. When I put ATAPI in the TLI-fields, eroaster does not recognize my CD-Rom-drives When I put ATA in the fields the drives are recognized, but trying to burn a Data-CD or just create an image for a data-cd doesn't work. It also didn't work without the patch, so maybe there's only no change and the patch works fine ;-) , but with kernel 2.6.x without scsi-emeulation the program seems to be useless. Bug#230677: rc bug #230677 for package phpdoc
You're right. I noticed that bug after I sent the mail. Well, I'll try someone to help with another NMU, since bug #282274 is just a small fix in the build-depeneds lines of the package. But since it was fixed by the NMU, it's still open as RC bug, and the package won't go to sarge. I think the bug should be closed. What do you think? No, bugs that are tagged fixed are excluded from consideration by the testing scripts; and you should never close an NMU bug unless you're the maintainer. Bug#306770: Caused by aeintegratq
In aegis-4.20/script/aeintegratq.in: $BinDir = @bindir@; $ComDir = @sharedstatedir@; $TmpDir = /var/tmp; $SendMail = /usr/lib/sendmail ... # define some locations for logging and such if ( -d $ComDir/integrations ) { $LogFile = $ComDir/integrations/integrate.log; }else{ $LogFile = $ENV{'HOME'}/integrate.log; } All of the directory loctions should be prefixed with some environment variable in order to fix this - I don'w know if you want to use RPM_BUILD_DIR, WORKDIR, or something else altogether, but this would allow for normal operation when not being run at build time, and fix out of build-directory file installs during autobuilding. There are also several other calls to $ENV{'HOME'} further down in the script that should get this massaging. -- - | ,''`.Stephen Gran | | : :' :[EMAIL PROTECTED] | | `. `'Debian user, admin, and developer | |`- http://www.debian.org | - pgpZ70ntlUleP.pgp Description: PGP signature
Bug#305300: followup: this package cannot be distributed at all
...since serious licence problems have been discovered... IIRC licence problems were in include/msw/gluwin32, so they are not used/distributed with wxgtk, no? Or do you also package wxmsw crosscompiler for Debian? Anyway, you can just remove these files before packaging. And there were very little changes in wxgtk from 2.6.0 release, so you could just package current cvs IMHO (and it has an important fix for not being able to use native gtk2 File dialog from wxPython, so Robin will probably require it anyway). [...] Yes, I have already fixed this problem in 6.1.2-14, but it is not getting into testing. This package is non-free, and unfortunately that means people aren't very inclined to build it on the various archs for me. Also, I don't think this bug should affect the RC bug count for sarge, since it *is* non-free after all. Is there any reason for severity: serious here, other than the fact that the fixed package hasn't made it into testing yet? The bug is tagged 'sarge' which indicates that it does not affect sid. I think it is an RC bug for sarge as long as the new version has not entered testing/sarge, which may or may not happen before the release. Please correct me if I am wrong here. The depends is not versioned; I don't know if it should be; Why are they other dependencies versioned, anyway? [...] Yes, I have already fixed this problem in 6.1.2-14, but it is not getting into testing. This package is non-free, and unfortunately that means people aren't very inclined to build it on the various archs for me. Have you asked the porter lists? The last three non-free packages that I asked people to build for RC bugfixes were all brought up-to-date in just a couple of days. Cc:ed to the lists for the archs in question. Also, I don't think this bug should affect the RC bug count for sarge, since it *is* non-free after all. Is there any reason for severity: serious here, other than the fact that the fixed package hasn't made it into testing yet? The only exception policy offers for non-free packages is: 2.2.3. The non-free section --- Packages must be placed in _non-free_ or _non-US/non-free_ if they are not compliant with the DFSG or are encumbered by patents or other legal issues that make their distribution problematic. In addition, the packages in _non-free_ and _non-US/non-free_ * must not be so buggy that we refuse to support them, and * must meet all policy requirements presented in this manual that it is possible for them to meet. [1] [1] It is possible that there are policy requirements which the package is unable to meet, for example, if the source is unavailable. These situations will need to be handled on a case-by-case basis. It is obviously possible for axe to have working build-depends here, therefore this requirement should not be waived. -- Steve Langasek postmodern programmer signature.asc Description: Digital signature

As a result, configure remains unpatched and the binaries are linking with libssl. That's correct, thanks for reporting! I've just fixed it and will soon upload the new package. I've set the severity to 'serious' because quagga is licensed under the GPL (without explicit OpenSSL exception), therefore linking with OpenSSL makes it unredistributable. Correct. On a side note, you really have to consider using dpatch or cdbs instead of manually patching debian/patches. I like them, too, and started using them on some other packages. It's probably just a question of (spare-) time when Quagga will use them :) Upgrading to debhelper 4 would be nice too - if you don't switch to cdbs that is. I upgraded to DH_COMPAT=4. Bug#306877: mysql-server: debian-sys-maint shouldn't have ALL PRIVILEGES
Package: mysql-server Version: 4.0.24-5 Severity: grave Tags: security Justification: user security hole The debian-sys-maint user is setup in the postinst to have mostly ALL PRIVILEGES, WITH GRANT, even. As I understand it (and as the README.Debian documents), the debian-sys-maint user is mainly used to stop the server as they would require knowledge of the mysql root users password else. If we give all privileges, with grant, to the debian-sys-maint, why have such a user at all? Why not simply put the root password there, as there is not a big difference between the two users anyways? If I'm missing something, then it should be documented more clearly in the README.Debian. :) I've done some tests here and for the init.d script, all that is required is RELOAD and SHUTDOWN. Some other privileges might be necessary in other environments, namely replication, but I couldn't test this here by lack of resources. This isn't such a grave security concern, but should be considered as a security problem anyways, because we do not leave only the necessary but allow extra privileges the user doesn't need. Thank you for your hard work on this excellent package.
