I don't really care either way, but I think [[:blank:]] works with all
locales. Plus, it's easier to read. :-)

As I wrote in #301455, I plan to put the change to initrd-tools:

sed 's/\(.*=\)\?[[:blank:]]*\(.*\)[[:blank:]]\+\((.*)\)/\2/;/^$/d'

It's just straightforward and small change.

I merged these two reports.

This change also fixes #279382, #292080, #295412, #295422, #297724,
and actual fix covered over the previous workaround e2fsprogs change.

Bug#306639: batik: FTBFS: JAVA_HOME_DIRS incorrect

2005-04-28 Thread Andreas Jochens
Hello Arnaud,

On 05-Apr-27 23:07, Arnaud Vandyck wrote:
Thanks for your bug reports, but you have to know that you can't file
FTBFS bugs reports about packages that are in contrib and relay on
packages that are not in Debian to build!

The non-free JDK's are not officially supported so the packages built
with non-free jdk's are not meant to be built 'as is' (I mean without
 modification).

I have no problem with wishlist bugs to ease the build of the package on
every arches (which is not needed because these packages are arch: all!)
but this is *not* serious bugs!

I tried to file only those bugs as 'serious' which can be reproduced on
i386. For bugs which are amd64 specific, I usually use 'wishlist' severity.
Of course, I may have made a mistake in some cases.

At least this particular bug occurs on all arches. It is not very nice
to have to read, understand and manually change 'debian/rules' and
maybe some other files to get a package built. In particular, this makes
any kind of autobuilding impossible, which is a bad thing from a
security point of view - and also inconvenient, of course.

For the Java related packages, the {sun,ibm,blackdown}-j2sdk1.x packages
which can be created by make-jpkg from 'java-package' make it easy to
set up an autobuilder, as long as all packages support this by setting
the correct JAVA_HOME directories and by specifying the correct
Build-Depends.

Anyway, I will file those problems as 'wishlist' in the remaining cases.

Some other types of bugs like

'Missing Build-Depends on 'junit' or
'./debian_patch' not executable

also appear on all arches including i386. I think those are 'serious'
FTBFS bugs, even for packages in 'contrib'. What should be done with
those?

Any way, I leave all the bug you reported and will try to upload fixes
 as soon as possible.

Thank you for all the fixes to my reports which you already uploaded
and for your work in general!

Regards
Andreas Jochens

Bug#306739: jakarta-log4j: FTBFS: 'enum' is a keyword, and may not be used as an identifier

2005-04-28 Thread Andreas Jochens
Package: jakarta-log4j
Version: 1.1.3-6
Severity: serious
Tags: patch

When trying to build 'jakarta-log4j' in a clean chroot with
sun-j2sdk1.5 installed, I get the following error:

[javac]
/jakarta-log4j-1.1.3/src/java/org/apache/log4j/test/Finalize.java:76: as of
release 1.5, 'enum' is a keyword, and may not be used as an identifier

[javac]   ((org.apache.log4j.Appender) enum.nextElement()).close();
[javac]^
[javac] 15 errors

BUILD FAILED

Please change the Build-Depends in debian/control from 'java2-compiler',
which includes 'sun-j2sdk1.5', to 'j2sdk1.4' to make it clear that
the package does not build with j2sdk1.5. Alternatively, the sources could
be fixed to replace all uses of 'enum' as an identifier with something else
like 'en'.

Please also change debian/rules to support the correct JAVA_HOME_DIRS
which are used by the packages created with make-jpkg from java-package.

Andreas Jochens

definitely jadetex trying to create its format with Knuth's tex.
Jadetex is now at 3.16 in testing, I suggest you do apt-get update
 and try again.

[I'm not the maintainer, just an interested user]

I guess tetex needs to conflict with old jadetex?

According to the CVS this is already the case (changelog for 3.0-3).
I rather guess the changes applied to jadetex has to be applied to
xmltex too.
Unfortunately I don't see in the logfile, why the format creation for
jadetex fails.

Bug#306749: libpixie-java: FTBFS: ./debian_patch: Permission denied

2005-04-28 Thread Andreas Jochens
Package: libpixie-java

Bug#306639: batik: FTBFS: JAVA_HOME_DIRS incorrect

The definition of contrib is free but needs some stuff not in Debian. For
any particular package, this stuff may or may not be something packaged in
Debian's non-free archive, but the net result is that contrib is not
completely autobuildable, and security support for contrib happens only
opportunistically. As a result, I don't think it's a release-critical issue
to try to force all Java-based contrib packages into an autobuildable state;
it's nice if they autobuild, but Java is just one instance of non-Debian
stuff. Make-jpkg is the currently favored method of making j2sdk
packages available, but none of the half-dozen mutually-incompatible j2sdk
packages (including those generated by make-jpkg) are actually distributed
by Debian, so I don't think it's fair to require that contrib java packages
be buildable with any particular j2sdk package.

By all means, please keep filing (and fixing) bugs so that we can get as
many contrib packages as possible autobuilding, but especially with the
freeze coming soon, I don't think this should be RC for sarge.

Some other types of bugs like

 'Missing Build-Depends on 'junit' or
 './debian_patch' not executable

also appear on all arches including i386. I think those are 'serious'
FTBFS bugs, even for packages in 'contrib'. What should be done with
 those?

I agree that those should be RC, since they are not about packages we don't
distribute.

Cheers,

I can understand but I still don't think it's that serious.

I must admit I'm more focused on moving java packages to main than
supporting non-free jdk's ;-)

Anyway, I will file those problems as 'wishlist' in the remaining cases.

Many thanks.

You are right, those are really serious! and should be corrected asap!
Also, I really appreciate you provide patches when you file bugs, please

Any way, I leave all the bug you reported and will try to upload fixes

Bug#306739: jakarta-log4j: FTBFS: 'enum' is a keyword, and may not be used as an identifier

2005-04-28 Thread Matej Vela
Hi,

The only packages that haven't moved to liblog4j1.2-java are:

 * libjfreereport-java: Upstream comes bundled with 1.2.3, so the switch
should be painless. Patch at #306754.

 * jetty-extra: Upstream comes bundled with 1.2.6, and uses features
specific to 1.2; Log4J support is either not used or already broken.
   Naive patch at #306761.

I think we can remove jakarta-log4j as soon as #306754 is fixed.

Thanks,

Matej

I hope this would satisfy both sides.

This patch adds 2 preference options: transport layer indicators (TLI)
for reader and recorder. Instead of using of USE_ATAPI variable in
the code there is GUI options now for user interaction. One who wish
to use experimental ATAPI feature can set they to ATAPI.

In fact, only cdrecord accepts TLI, but no other eroaster's backends:
cdda2wav, cdrdao, readcd (please fix me if i'm wrong). Thus, the value
of setting TLI to ATAPI for the reader device is under question.

Both TLI options are by default, cdrecord will operate on SCSI bus,
in an old style fashion (experimental feature disabled).

For me, on a machine with kernel 2.6 the patch doesn't work.
When I put ATAPI in the TLI-fields, eroaster does not recognize my
CD-Rom-drives
When I put ATA in the fields the drives are recognized, but trying to
burn a Data-CD or just create an image for a data-cd doesn't work. It
also didn't work without the patch, so maybe there's only no change and
the patch works fine ;-) , but with kernel 2.6.x without scsi-emeulation
the program seems to be useless.

Here's the output in the xterm, which I started eroaster in (only the

Bug#306770: aegis: creates ~/integrate.log while building

2005-04-28 Thread Lars Wirzenius
Package: aegis
Severity: serious

When building aegis from source, using dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc
-rfakeroot, it creates a file called integrate.log in my home
directory. This will likely make the package fail to build on buildds,
which have no $HOME (thus the serious severity). Even disregarding that,
creating files outside the source tree is bad.

JAVA_HOME_DIRS. Then I get the following error:

The java class is not found: org.apache.tools.ant.launch.AntMain

This package needs to Build-Depends on libant1.6-java. libant1.5-java will we
removed soon.
Adding $(ANT_HOME)/lib/ant-launcher.jar to DEB_JARS should help with the error
from above.

Is the userspace governor module loaded? I see from bug #277605 that powernowd

Unless someone tells me not to, I intend to NMU cappuccino with the
attached patch in a day or two. In addition to triggering a rebuild, the
patch adds proper quoting to the menu file (thereby silencing two
lintian warnings). It does not update Standards-Version. I would wait a

that we're in a 0-day NMU period.

Hopefully this is helpful. Happy hacking.

Bug#306107: gnome-doc-utils: FTBFS: missing build-depends

2005-04-28 Thread Lars Wirzenius
 checking for pkg-config... no

The attached patch fixes the problem by adding a build dependency on
pkg-config. Since we are close to freezing sarge, I will make an NMU
tomorrow with this patch, unless there is an objection (I'm also happy
to see a maintainer upload, of course).

Bug#230677: rc bug #230677 for package phpdoc

You're right. I noticed that bug after I sent the mail.

Well, I'll try someone to help with another NMU, since bug #282274 is just
a small fix in the build-depeneds lines of the package.

What can be done for bug #230677? It was a year since an NMU was done
(march 2004). The problem is fixed.

But since it was fixed by the NMU, it's still open as RC bug, and the
 package won't go to sarge.

I think the bug should be closed. What do you think?

No, bugs that are tagged fixed are excluded from consideration by the
testing scripts; and you should never close an NMU bug unless you're the
 maintainer.

The reason phpdoc is not in testing is bug #282274.

Autobuilding is possible so long as the autobuild environment provides
/dev/ptmx and /dev/pts/*, as I believe they are required to do.

Bug#306770: Caused by aeintegratq

2005-04-28 Thread Stephen Gran
In aegis-4.20/script/aeintegratq.in:

$BinDir  = @bindir@;
$ComDir  = @sharedstatedir@;
$TmpDir   = /var/tmp;
$SendMail = /usr/lib/sendmail

...

  # define some locations for logging and such
if ( -d $ComDir/integrations ) {
$LogFile  = $ComDir/integrations/integrate.log;
}else{
$LogFile  = $ENV{'HOME'}/integrate.log;
}

All of the directory loctions should be prefixed with some environment
variable in order to fix this - I don'w know if you want to use
RPM_BUILD_DIR, WORKDIR, or something else altogether, but this would
allow for normal operation when not being run at build time, and fix out
of build-directory file installs during autobuilding. There are also
several other calls to $ENV{'HOME'} further down in the script that
should get this massaging.

Bug#305300: followup: this package cannot be distributed at all

2005-04-28 Thread Nerijus Baliunas
...since serious licence problems have been discovered...

IIRC licence problems were in include/msw/gluwin32, so they
are not used/distributed with wxgtk, no? Or do you also package
wxmsw crosscompiler for Debian? Anyway, you can just remove
these files before packaging.

And there were very little changes in wxgtk from 2.6.0 release,
so you could just package current cvs IMHO (and it has an important
fix for not being able to use native gtk2 File dialog from wxPython,
so Robin will probably require it anyway).

Nerijus

Bug#230677: rc bug #230677 for package phpdoc

2005-04-28 Thread Thomas Bushnell BSG
Lior Kaplan [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

 Hi,

What can be done for bug #230677? It was a year since an NMU was done
(march 2004). The problem is fixed.

But since it was fixed by the NMU, it's still open as RC bug, and the
 package won't go to sarge.

I think the bug should be closed. What do you think?

Please CC me, I'm not listed.

It also looks like you filed an orphaned indication on the package,
which you should not have done. Only the maintainer or QA can do
that; if you think the maintainer is absent, you should send mail to
debian-qa asking if he's MIA.

Bug#306843: nvidia-kernel-common: nvidia module not found when XFree86 starts

2005-04-28 Thread Gijs Hillenius
Package: nvidia-kernel-common
Version: 1.0.7174-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hello,

this is an up to date debian box. XFree86 won't start. It complains:
Loadmodule: nvidia
Warning, couldn't open module nvidia
Failed to load module nvidia (module does not exist, 0)

I tried several combinations of apt-get remove --purge nvidia* and
fresh modules made with modules-assistant and also tried a custom
kernel from people.debian.org/~rdonald.. none of these improves.
Replacing nvidia with nv in /etx/X11/XFree86-4 helps, though..

Thank you for your attention

The bug is tagged 'sarge' which indicates that it does not affect sid.

I think it is an RC bug for sarge as long as the new version has not
entered testing/sarge, which may or may not happen before the release.

Please correct me if I am wrong here.

In order to fix the problem, Jerry Pendergraft, the aeintegratq

It would be aeintegratq being run by some tests that is creating the log.
Easy fix. I will create the log in the aegis test directory if/when being
run by tests. Here is the patch and I will send Peter an aedist.

 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4203 2005-03-30 10:25 00tetex.cnf
 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 269 2002-12-10 14:02 40jadetex.cnf

 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 97 2002-10-29 15:30 40xmltex.cnf.disable

Thank you for the hint ! Cleaning-up the old cruft:

   mv 40jadetex.cnf.dpkg-dist 40jadetex.cnf

fixed the jadetex problem. This is strange because I never touch those
files and I always choose to use the new version from the maintainer.

Now I only have a problem with xmltex (see below).

 # cat 40xmltex.cnf
 xmltex tex language.datlatex xmltex.ini
 pdfxmltex pdftex language.datpdflatex pdfxmltex.ini

and tell us which version of xmltex and jadetex you're using?

 The latest one in sid+experimental:

ii jadetex 3.13-6 generator of printable output
from SGML or XML using J
ii xmltex 1.9-8 TeX package for processing XML
 files

This is bug #262395, so reassigning there.

This is a serious bug as it will break all installations with the
current (testing and unstable) tetex packages. Patch: edit
/usr/share/texmf/tex/xmltex/templates/40xmltex.cnf to read:

xmltex latex language.datlatex xmltex.ini
pdfxmltex pdflatex language.datpdflatex pdfxmltex.ini

i.e., changing tex - latex and pdftex to pdflatex.

or

xmltex etex language.datlatex xmltex.ini
pdfxmltex pdfetex language.datpdflatex pdfxmltex.ini

The latter is better, as it works whatever the setting of latex is.

   Julian

Autobuilding is possible so long as the autobuild environment provides
/dev/ptmx and /dev/pts/*, as I believe they are required to do.
The command fakeroot dpkg-buildpackage build.log works for me.
 (build.log attached)

Downgrading based on this analysis, then.

When trying to build 'libjcommon-java', I get the following error:

./debian_patch jcommon-0.8.3/ant/build.xml
make: execvp: ./debian_patch: Permission denied
make: *** [configure-stamp] Error 127

The attached patch fixes this problem.

Additionally, the patch changes the JAVA_HOME directory setting
in debian/rules so that it works for the standard Debian
j2sdk1.4-{sun,ibm,blackdown} packages which can be made using
make-jpkg from java-package.

Bug#306839: patch for FTBFS

2005-04-28 Thread Justin Pryzby
Attached is a patch to fix FTBFS: missing build-depends on xlibs-dev.
Confirmed on sid/i386 pbuilder.

The depends is not versioned; I don't know if it should be; Why are
they other dependencies versioned, anyway?

Justin

libjfreereport-java is fixed now, but you can take a look at jetty, it

No problem - I'm the wrong side of a thin piece of string at the moment,
so an NMU would be helpful.

Yes, I have already fixed this problem in 6.1.2-14, but it is not
getting into testing. This package is non-free, and unfortunately that
means people aren't very inclined to build it on the various archs for
 me.

Have you asked the porter lists? The last three non-free packages that I
asked people to build for RC bugfixes were all brought up-to-date in just a
couple of days. Cc:ed to the lists for the archs in question.

Also, I don't think this bug should affect the RC bug count for sarge,
since it *is* non-free after all. Is there any reason for severity:
serious here, other than the fact that the fixed package hasn't made
 it into testing yet?

The only exception policy offers for non-free packages is:

2.2.3. The non-free section
---

Packages must be placed in _non-free_ or _non-US/non-free_ if they are
not compliant with the DFSG or are encumbered by patents or other
legal issues that make their distribution problematic.

In addition, the packages in _non-free_ and _non-US/non-free_
* must not be so buggy that we refuse to support them, and
* must meet all policy requirements presented in this manual that
it is possible for them to meet. [1]

[1] It is possible that there are policy requirements which the package is
unable to meet, for example, if the source is unavailable. These
situations will need to be handled on a case-by-case basis.

It is obviously possible for axe to have working build-depends here,
therefore this requirement should not be waived.

Severity: normal

(This is an automatically generated bug, based on the current contents
of the Packages file for the main section.)

This package still depends on xlib6g; this needs to be updated since
the xlib6g* packages will disappear by the time of the next release.
(If this was pulled in by ${shlibs:Depends}, all you should need to do
to fix this bug is rebuild the package. However, if your source
package is missing Build-Depends, you may need to add these for the
autobuilders to work.)

Bug#229509: Please test mergeant 0.5x

2005-04-28 Thread Jordi Mallach
Hi,

Eons ago, you filed a Release Critical bug against mergeant, about a
crash when saving exiting the application. A new version of mergeant
has been in unstable for a few weeks, and is now waiting for this bug to
enter testing. I'd be grateful if you could give it a go and tell us if
the bug still applies.

Thanks,

That's correct, thanks for reporting! I've just fixed it and will soon
upload the new package.

I've set the severity to 'serious' because quagga is licensed under the
GPL (without explicit OpenSSL exception), therefore linking with OpenSSL
 makes it unredistributable.
Correct.

On a side note, you really have to consider using dpatch or cdbs instead
 of manually patching debian/patches.
I like them, too, and started using them on some other packages.
It's probably just a question of (spare-) time when Quagga will use them :)

Upgrading to debhelper 4 would be nice too - if you don't switch to cdbs
 that is.
I upgraded to DH_COMPAT=4. Does this have any visible effect?

bye,

Bug#306877: mysql-server: debian-sys-maint shouldn't have ALL PRIVILEGES

2005-04-28 Thread The Anarcat
Package: mysql-server
Version: 4.0.24-5
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

The debian-sys-maint user is setup in the postinst to have mostly ALL
PRIVILEGES, WITH GRANT, even. As I understand it (and as the
README.Debian documents), the debian-sys-maint user is mainly used to
stop the server as they would require knowledge of the mysql root users
password else.

If we give all privileges, with grant, to the debian-sys-maint, why have
such a user at all? Why not simply put the root password there, as there
is not a big difference between the two users anyways?

If I'm missing something, then it should be documented more clearly in
the README.Debian. :)

I've done some tests here and for the init.d script, all that is
required is RELOAD and SHUTDOWN. Some other privileges might be
necessary in other environments, namely replication, but I couldn't test
this here by lack of resources.

This isn't such a grave security concern, but should be considered as a
security problem anyways, because we do not leave only the necessary
but allow extra privileges the user doesn't need.

Thank you for your hard work on this excellent package.

A.

Bug#306878: security hole in ldapdiff.conf path construction

2005-04-28 Thread Allan Lyons
Package: ldapdiff
Version: 0.9.2-1
Severity: critical
Tags: security fixed-upstream

The change logs for ldapdiff report that a security hole in
ldapdiff.conf path construction was fixed in version 1.1.1

Upgrading to the current upstream version would both fix this security
hole as well as other bugs according to the upstream change logs.

Allan.
