Bug#316093: ncurses-base: binaries terminfo files marked as conffiles

 Binary files /etc/terminfo/r/rxvt-unicode and
 /etc/terminfo/r/rxvt-unicode.dpkg-new differ

But they ARE conffiles! One of the reasons they're in /etc is so that
the system administrator can modify them if desired.

I'm sorry dpkg doesn't offer a way to specify a diff program usefully;
infocmp would work fine.

This is an error message which clearly happens during the adduser call

shadow maintainers, would you be willing to make the case of no
shadow passwords in use, chage will fail easily detectable from
inside adduser? Or am I better off by jumping through hoops in adduser
to find out whether shadow passwords are in use?

Bug#315945: seyon does not work when gnome-terminal is installed

Package: seyon

Justification: renders package unusable

seyon does not work when gnome-terminal is installed. When I try to run
it, I get the following message:

Option --tclass is no longer supported in this version of
gnome-terminal; you might want to create a profile with the desired
setting, and use the new --window-with-profile option Two --title
options given for one tab

without gnome-terminal, seyon starts. I did not change any configuration
(just installed the two packages).

This is not a grave bug, it's easy to install rxvt or xterm and
configure seyon to use those. I'm actually tempted to reassign the bug
to gnome-terminal instead, for willfully breaking compatibility with
the older terminal programs for no obvious reason...

Package: debootstrap-udeb
Version: 0.3.1

Two errors in functions breaking new installations have been confirmed
testing debootstrap udeb in sid during an emulated S/390 installation.

The following 2 changes will fix them.

4)
   if [ $pkgs_to_get =3D  ]; then break; fi
 done 41
=3D=3D=3D

With these two changes base-installation finishes successfully, with
good progress information on VT1.

There _is_ another error from debootstrap at the very end:
   The debootstrap program exited with an error (return value 1).

The logs had already been copied and the /target/debootstrap dir was gone.
I have not (yet) been able to trace this bug. At first I thought it could
be caused by the fact that I was running the script set -x, but the same
errors occurs without set -x.

The last lines in /target/var/log/bootstrap.log (with set -x) were:
+ info BASESUCCESS Base system installed successfully.
+ local name=3DBASESUCCESS
+ local fmt=3DBase system installed successfully.
+ shift
+ shift
+ [ yes ]
+ echo I: BASESUCCESS
+ echo IF: Base system installed successfully.

I will try to debug this further tomorrow.

Cheers,

That is why you should not mark them as conffiles but handle them

dpkg fails to install if base-passwd is not configured and does not
declare a pre-dependency against. At this time, no /etc/passwd or /etc/group
exists, as base-passwd builds them in its postinstall script.

This violates against policy 3.5, paragraph 4:
| Sometimes, a package requires another package to be installed and

Anyway, a predependency is impossible as base-passwd is not installable

Hey,

dpkg is now shipping both /sbin/s-s-d and /usr/sbin/s-s-d; only
/sbin/s-s-d is required. Having both breaks bootstrapping since
daemons get randomly started when they're not supposed to, because only
/sbin/s-s-d is diverted.

Presumably this is a still-glowing scar from:

  * Scorched-earth reimplementation of the build process and control files
with debhelper and automake.

Also,

  * Remove /usr/sbin/start-stop-daemon.  Closes: #156437.

Hi Cowboy

Hello !

I did desperately try to track down this error I saw on different systems:

Jun 28 13:53:41 go sendmail[18911]: j5SBrfKk018911: [EMAIL PROTECTED],
ctladdr=benoit (1024/100),
delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=relay, pri=31826, relay=[127.0.0.1]
[127.0.0.1],
dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred:Connection refused by [127.0.0.1]

Did you specify bind address for sendmail and forget to include 127.0.0.1 ?
If things are kosher, you should have some message in the logs about not
being able to bind to a port.

Usualy after purging the config and re-installing sendmail everything was
fine until I
enabled IPv6 according to the advice in sendmail.mc file which reads:

dnl # If you want to support IPv6, switch the commented/uncommentd lines
FEATURE(`no_default_msa')dnl
DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Family=inet6, Name=MTA-v6, Port=smtp, Addr=::1')dnl
dnl DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Family=inet,  Name=MTA-v4, Port=smtp, Addr=127.0.0.1')dnl
DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Family=inet6, Name=MSP-v6, Port=submission, Addr=::1')dnl
dnl DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Family=inet,  Name=MSP-v4, Port=submission,
Addr=127.0.0.1')dnl

I have:
FEATURE(`no_default_msa')dnl
DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Family=inet6, Name=MTA-v6, Port=smtp, M=')dnl
DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Family=inet6, Name=MSA-v6, Port=587, M=Ea')dnl
DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Family=inet6, Name=SMTA-v6, Port=smtps, M=s')dnl
DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Family=local, Name=MTA-Unix,
Addr=/var/run/sendmail/mta/smsocket')dnl

If you do this, sendmail only binds to the IPv6 Localhost and is not able to
transmit emails
from the MTA to the queue runner (or vice versa?).

What kernel are you using ?

# lsof -i | grep sendmail
sendmail-  6462   root4u  IPv6   72288   TCP *:smtp (LISTEN)
sendmail-  6462   root5u  IPv6   72396   TCP *:submission (LISTEN)
sendmail-  6462   root6u  IPv6   72450   TCP *:ssmtp (LISTEN)

You have to twitch submit.mc too:

FEATURE(`msp', `[IPv6:::1]', `MSA')dnl

Nope... I have
FEATURE(`msp', `[127.0.0.1]', `MSA')dnl

I remember that older versions of sendmail didn't habe that problem, because
listening on IPv6
did mean you also opened the IPv4 socket.

Yes, there were problems with older sendmails - mostly related to the
fact that early 2.4 kernels did not support both ipv4 and ipv6 on the
same port.

Probably this has changes somewhen either in the Kernel or in sendmail itself.

Something odd is happening on your box, as this is working fine on
several local boxen - running various 2.6 kernels.

I have no idea what you mean by shuffling snapshot URLs.

 I put core dump in quotes in the subjectline, because the error message

I'll forward that anyway.

Bug#316121: apt: Ubuntu key installed in /etc/apt/trusted.gpg

2005-06-28 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Package: apt
Version: 0.6.38
Severity: serious

Hi,

I currently have the ubuntu key installed in
/etc/apt/trusted.gpg, and do not have the debian key in it.
This is not at all what I expect. I never had anything from
ubuntu installed.

I assume this happened with an earlier version apt (0.6.36) from
experimental which was needed to build something else from
experimental (aptitude?). The file is from May 14, so this must
have happened before the current version in unstable. This was
then back downgraded to 0.5.28.6, and now just upgraded to
0.6.38.

I think you should always import the debian key into trusted.gpg
file, optional with debconf questions.

(http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=266165).
The behavior is the same but the segfault IMHO does not depend on
libapr0 because it shows even using the local filesystem as

$ cd my_project_name/trunk/
$ mkdir a
$ svn add a

Package: exim4-daemon-heavy
Version: 4.51-1
Severity: important

The problem here is some, but not all, incoming TLS emails getting
deferred:

2005-06-24 11:55:01 TLS error on connection from
host81-136-150-217.in-addr.btopenworld.com (thegerhards.com)
[81.136.150.217]:30228 (gnutls_handshake): A TLS fatal alert has been
received.

This coincided with (a few hours after) upgrading from 4.50-8 to 4.51-1.
I can reliably reproduce the problem on 4.51-1, within an hour or two.
With the previous 4.50-8 I have never seen the problem. Switching back and
forth between the versions reliably reproduces the problem (on 4.51-1).

For this reason, I believe this bug may be different than the two
existing, older, bugs #285371 #297174, which affected previous releases
(where I never saw a problem).

I would note that not all incoming TLS traffic seems to be affected.
Somes sites' TLS traffic is deferred, others accepted. Outgoing TLS
traffic seems to be fine.

Running -d+all didn't provide any further information, unfortunately.

One other data point: 4.50-8 seems to reliably recreate the gnutls-params
file if it is removed, whereas I've noted that with 4.51-1 the file is
never created. Of course, this may just be a symptom of the problem.

Please let me know if I can provide more information.

cheers,
calum.

 Hi Kurt,

 I have tried a fresh approach to this problem, that is making the
 code in question a shared object. It is compiled with -fPIC as far as
 I can see. This change is included in the 1.17-2 packages that
 I have put in http://debian.vergenet.net/pending/perdition/
 If you have a chance, could you test to see if these solve the
 problem that you are seeing. It would be nice to make sure it
 is resolved before uploading these to Debian.Org.

It seems to have build fine.

PS: You have 2 virtual packages as build dependency, libdb-dev
and libmysqlclient-dev. Can I suggest you use something like
libmysqlclient12-dev | libmysqlclient-dev and libdb4.3-dev |
libdb-dev as build dependency instead, so you get predictable
results when installing the dependencies. And maybe you should
switch to libmysqlclient14-dev if possible?

hi,

recently I wanted to access my passwords, most of which I now store in
a gringotts file. I punchend in gringotts -f passwd.grg in rox
(i.e. not in a terminal) and presto: nothing! Maybe you can imagine
my first thoughts... Oh f**k! My password file is corrupted! (my
second thought was along the line Hey, I have backups, so I have not
lost anything :-).

Long story short, when started in a terminal, gringotts emits the
following:

  $ gringotts

  (process:15830): gringotts-CRITICAL **: Invalid LANG environment variable:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]'
It does not work with de_DE.UTF-8 either, but works with de_DE (even
with the Umlaute, e.g. Angehängte Dateien in gringotts itself) or C
(English).

  $ LANG=de_DE gringotts

  See COPYING or go to http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html

I am no programmer, and did not look this up thoroughly (quick
googling turns up nothing), but is does seem to me as something
specific to gringotts, as my other GTK apps run fine without any
problem.

If you have any ideas how I might be able to help I will do my very
best :-).

Regards,

Sebastian Fontius

Bug#316173: apache2: Security issues in HTTP proxy responses with both Transfer-Encoding and Content-Length headers

2005-06-28 Thread Moritz Muehlenhoff
Package: apache2

Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

Latest 2.1.6-alpha fixes a security in the proxy HTTP code:

|Proxy HTTP: If a response contains both Transfer-Encoding

 No, they are maybe config files, but they cannot be conffiles, since
 they are not text files.

Do you have a reference for this? I see nothing in policy to suggest
that conffiles must be text files. Other than the inflexibility of
using diff, the conffile management in dpkg is appropriate.

  I'm sorry dpkg doesn't offer a way to specify a diff program usefully;
  infocmp would work fine.

 That is why you should not mark them as conffiles but handle them
 manually with a script that provide a way to edit and diff them.

You don't edit them. You build from alternate source, presumably
provided by whatever oddball terminal you're using or derived by some
overly clever sysadmin from terminfo.src.

  No, they are maybe config files, but they cannot be conffiles, since
  they are not text files.

 Do you have a reference for this? I see nothing in policy to suggest
 that conffiles must be text files. Other than the inflexibility of
 using diff, the conffile management in dpkg is appropriate.

Please see: http://release.debian.org/etch_rc_policy.txt

3. Configuration files
Conffiles must be plain text.

I am really sorry to have to resort to that, though.

Package: zope
Version: 2.6.2-6
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Each time I run zopectl logrotate, the Zope instances crash after the
first HTTP request and don't respond when using PCGI. As the
/etc/logrotate.d/zope configuration asks for a zopectl logrotate every
night, this makes Zope unusable on the 2 servers I use, both using Sid
(in fact, I just replaced zopectl logrotate with zopectl restart and
it works fine).

I have tried to send a SIGUSR2 signal to a running Zope instance, and it
seems to be enough to raise the problem.

Package: zopectl

Justification: renders package unusable

Installing zope and zopectl fails to setup a usable zope instance.

I could be misinterpreting things but no zopectlrc is setup when zope
is installed. When I run zopectl init instance_name no instance is setup
and zopectl exits with no messages.

dpkg-reconfigure -plow zope asks me a bunch of questions including
building the links under /var/lib/zope/instance/default, but after
running it theres still nothing under /var/lib/zope/instance (no
default directory).

This is with zope 2.6.4-1.1 as well.

I hope I'm not meant to create a zopectlrc file by hand!

Thanks
Andy Hird

2005-06-28 Thread Adam Conrad
Steve Kemp wrote:

 Can I be the first to say that I don't understand the nature of this
 issue?

The description sounds reasonably straightforward, though I'd classify
this as a vulnerability of pretty low importance, from a will people be
exploited by this viewpoint.

 Is this also present in 2.0.54 which is the latest stable release?
 There's no mention of it in the changelog there..

It looks like it's in 2.0.54, and there's a backport in SVN for the 2.0.55
release, but the backport looks more like a massive feature backport, not
just a small security patch, so I may look at if there's a way to fix this
a bit less intrusively.

Actually, it's worth nothing that we muck with Content-Length at another
point, thanks to a Debian-specific patch, so we may accidentally not be
vulnerable to this anyway. I'll follow the code around a little later
today and see if that's the case.

Bug#316186: evms-ha: file collision with heartbeat package

2005-06-28 Thread Juan Grigera
Package: evms-ha
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

evms-ha includes /etc/heartbeat which is no longer used
in the heartbeat package and is now a symlink to /etc/ha.d.
Now the evms_failover resource.d scripts should
be moved to /etc/ha.d/resource.d.

Currently one is not able to install this package as it
wont unpack.

 Yes. This is known. But I have nothing no no clue about python...

It would appear to be because:

1. python can't find the shared library, need to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to
/usr/lib/openoffice2/program. Ideally the library should go somewhere
where python can see it.

2. the default config in /usr/lib/openoffice2/program/pyunorc is wrong,
it needs to be changed to:

--- cut ---
[Bootstrap]
PYUNO_SHARED_PACKAGES=${$ORIGIN/bootstraprc:BaseInstallation}/share/uno_packages/cache
PYUNO_USER_PACKAGES=${$ORIGIN/bootstraprc:UserInstallation}/user/uno_packages/cache

?$PYUNO_USER_PACKAGES/types.rdb
UNO_SERVICES=?$PYUNO_USER_PACKAGES/services.rdb

--- cut ---

According to advice I found at:
URL:http://people.ubuntu.com/~fabbione/irclogs/ubuntu-devel-2005-05-10.html

It appears to work now.

It is a known issue that gnumeric 1.4.x does not work properly against
libgsf 1.12.0; you'll need to downgrade libgsf-1 to the 1.11.1-1 version in
stable,

This problem is limited in scope as the malfunctioning combination does not
occur in the stable, testing or unstable trees. (Stable has an older libgsf;
testing and unstable have newer versions of gnumeric)

Bug#316071: phpbb2: Inproper escaping in viewtopic.php

2005-06-28 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Hello Moritz,

Thanks for your report. We were given notice about this but couldn't
reproduce the mentioned bug in our current phpbb2 Debian versions.

On Tue, June 28, 2005 11:16, Moritz Muehlenhoff wrote:
 [Cc:ing security@ as Sarge is affected as well]

Can you clarify: have you verified that sarge is affected, or is that
based on the version number?

 phpbb 2.0.16 fixes a security issue due to inproper escaping of the
 $highlight_match variable in viewtopic.php.

 Upstream developers classify it as critical and provide something that
 has a close resemblance of a patch:
 http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=14t=302011

That phpbb-style patch is not that clear but as far as I can tell, it
does an addslashes() on $highlight_match.

The patch seems to make sense: if you put the words straght into the
regexp you can manipulate that at will, and the addslashes prevents that.
However, I haven't been able to reproduce it (so we can test whether the
problem is actually solved by this). He who has a testcase, please speak
up now!

regards
Thijs

Still no errors whatsoever here, so I'm confident your update cured the
problem, Andreas, thanks. You might want to release this?

thanks again.

Bug#316094: sendmail: Enabling IPv6 breaks submit.mc (Deferred:Connection refused by [127.0.0.1])

2005-06-28 Thread Benoit Panizzon
Package: sendmail
Version: 8.13.4-3
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

Hi Cowboy

I did desperately try to track down this error I saw on different systems:

Jun 28 13:53:41 go sendmail[18911]: j5SBrfKk018911: [EMAIL PROTECTED],
ctladdr=benoit (1024/100),
delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=relay, pri=31826, relay=[127.0.0.1]
[127.0.0.1],
dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred:Connection refused by [127.0.0.1]

Usualy after purging the config and re-installing sendmail everything was
fine until I
enabled IPv6 according to the advice in sendmail.mc file which reads:

dnl # If you want to support IPv6, switch the commented/uncommentd lines
FEATURE(`no_default_msa')dnl
DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Family=inet6, Name=MTA-v6, Port=smtp, Addr=::1')dnl
dnl DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Family=inet,  Name=MTA-v4, Port=smtp, Addr=127.0.0.1')dnl
DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Family=inet6, Name=MSP-v6, Port=submission, Addr=::1')dnl
dnl DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Family=inet,  Name=MSP-v4, Port=submission,
Addr=127.0.0.1')dnl

If you do this, sendmail only binds to the IPv6 Localhost and is not able to
transmit emails
from the MTA to the queue runner (or vice versa?).

You have to twitch submit.mc too:

FEATURE(`msp', `[IPv6:::1]', `MSA')dnl

I remember that older versions of sendmail didn't habe that problem, because
listening on IPv6
did mean you also opened the IPv4 socket.

Probably this has changes somewhen either in the Kernel or in sendmail itself.

Bug#316093: ncurses-base: binaries terminfo files marked as conffiles

2005-06-28 Thread Bill Allombert
Package: ncurses-base
Version: 5.4-8
Severity: serious

Hello Dan,

ncurses-base mark the following files as conffiles:

/etc/terminfo/E/Eterm
/etc/terminfo/a/ansi
/etc/terminfo/c/cons25
/etc/terminfo/c/cygwin
/etc/terminfo/d/dumb
/etc/terminfo/h/hurd
/etc/terminfo/l/linux
/etc/terminfo/m/mach
/etc/terminfo/m/mach-bold
/etc/terminfo/m/mach-color
/etc/terminfo/p/pcansi
/etc/terminfo/r/rxvt
/etc/terminfo/r/rxvt-basic
/etc/terminfo/r/rxvt-unicode
/etc/terminfo/s/screen
/etc/terminfo/s/screen-bce
/etc/terminfo/s/screen-s
/etc/terminfo/s/screen-w
/etc/terminfo/s/sun
/etc/terminfo/v/vt100
/etc/terminfo/v/vt102
/etc/terminfo/v/vt220
/etc/terminfo/v/vt52
/etc/terminfo/w/wsvt25
/etc/terminfo/w/wsvt25m
/etc/terminfo/x/xterm
/etc/terminfo/x/xterm-debian
/etc/terminfo/x/xterm-r5
/etc/terminfo/x/xterm-r6
/etc/terminfo/x/xterm-xfree86
/etc/terminfo/x/xterm-mono
/etc/terminfo/x/xterm-vt220
/etc/terminfo/x/xterm-color

However theses files are binaries files, not text files. They probably
do not beong in /etc in the first place but at least they should not be
marked as conffiles, since dpkg do not handle non-text conffiles in a
useful way:

Setting up ncurses-base (5.4-8) ...

Configuration file `/etc/terminfo/r/rxvt-unicode'
 == File on system created by you or by a script.
 == File also in package provided by package maintainer.
   What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
Y or I  : install the package maintainer's version
N or O  : keep your currently-installed version
  D : show the differences between the versions
  Z : background this process to examine the situation
 The default action is to keep your current version.
*** rxvt-unicode (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ? D
Binary files /etc/terminfo/r/rxvt-unicode and
/etc/terminfo/r/rxvt-unicode.dpkg-new differ

Bug#316096: gnumeric: Crash when saving to MS Excel format

2005-06-28 Thread Yevgen Muntyan
Package: gnumeric
Version: 1.4.3-4
Severity: critical
Justification: causes serious data loss

Gnumeric crashes when I'm trying to save file in MS Excel format,
regardless of file content - it may be a new empty file or file with
some data.

Steps to reproduce are:
1. Open some file or create a new one.
2. Menu File  Save As.
3. Choose MS Excel (tm) 97/2000/XP in the File Type combo, press Save.

Result: The Application gnumeric has quit unexpectedly. dialog.

It crashes with two other Excel format choices too.
