Bug#342545: qt-x11-free build fails
[cc:ed to the hppa porters individually, as well as to debian-hppa; please let me know if you prefer to get such mail just via the list in the future.] Are the hppa porters aware of bug #342545 in libgcc2, which is affecting builds of most Qt-related packages on hppa today? I had suggested to LaMont that this was a result of the buildd being configured to throw SIGBUS instead of silently doing alignment fixups, but I see that this bug is actually an illegal instruction, *not* a SIGBUS, so this is presumably not as easy to fix as just throwing a kernel switch. This is currently the single largest blocker for KDE completing the c2a ABI transition, and large numbers of missing hppa builds are being ignored in the analysis right now because it's the only way to see what other real package bugs are outstanding. Aurelien has done some good work on pinning down the location of the problem, but an hppa porter is going to need to look at this to tell us what the proper fix is. If this bug isn't fixed by the time the rest of the KDE hint is ready to go in, we'll probably push it in leaving the packages out of date (and possibly uninstallable) for hppa. At that point we would also have to reconsider hppa's status as a release port, so hopefully someone will have a chance to look at this soon. Bug#324877: libdevice-serialport-perl still tries to find serial port
severity 324877 important thanks Hi Daniel, You reported that you were able to reproduce this build failure with libdevice-serialporl-perl 1.002-0.2, but this version has successfully built on all archs (except s390 where it shouldn't be). At this point, the package is *not* running make test, but is instead simply checking for the presence of a serial device node in /dev/; it's arguable whether this is the correct check, but why does your pbuilder chroot not have /dev/ttyS1 when all of the buildds do have it? I'm inclined to believe this is a pbuilder-specific bug, and should therefore not be RC. Thanks, -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#329212: fisg bug #329212
tag 329212 patch thanks dude Hi there, the segmentation fault reported in this bug happens because the log fails to be parsed, hence, there is no user list, and it tries to index NULL. This happens because the number of users is checked, but too late. There is a simplish patch attached that fixes the problem by moving the check up with some tweaks, so it is performed earlier, and before everything blows up. Cheers, -- Guilherme de S. Bug#344413: kernel-package hooks transition
Oh well, messed up the bug email addresses :/ On Sat, Dec 24, 2005 at 05:03:17PM +0100, Sven Luther wrote: On Sat, Dec 24, 2005 at 09:19:36AM -0600, Manoj Srivastava wrote: Hi, In the recent 10.X series, kernel package has started producing image packages whose maintainer scripts use debconf for user interaction. Unfortunately, this meant that any hook scripts called in the maintainer scripts for the image package (update-grub comes to mind), if they wrote anything at all to the STDout, would cause debconf to throw hissy fits, since it was expecting commands on STDOUT, not random chatter from the hook scripts. One solution was to call db_stop before calling the hook scripts, and redirecting stdout to stderr in hte invocation of the scripts. Unfortunately, this made any scripts that used debconf impossible. Notice that the debconf helper scripts provide stdout on 3, so any scripts writing to stdout only need to redirect their output to 3, no ? Another idea would be to have some tag or something to declare if the script uses debconf or not, and to do the redirection depending on that ? It could be parsing for something like : comment delimiter KPKG-TAG: debconf (where comment delimiter is # for shell scripts, obviously). This would allow for the most flexibility, and still work out fine, and parsing would be a simple grep command, so rather cheap (if grep KPKG-TAG.*debconf; then debconf stuff; else non-debconf stuff; fi) Oh and BTW, 10.023 did not fix the mkvmlinuz problem, not sure if you saw me reopening the bug reports. I will try to investigate this on tuesday, altough i am really lost about this and help will be welcomed. For powerpc users, a workaround is to remove the debconf stuff by hand. There are two scripts : /etc/kernel/postinst.d/mkvmlinuz and /etc/kernel/prerm.d/mkvmlinuz And the best way is to replace the lines : . /usr/share/debconf/confmodule db_get mkvmlinuz/bootloaders bootloader=$RET by : bootloader=your_choice Where your_choice is yaboot on pmac and rs6k, and mkvmlinuz otherwise. I just tested two machines with the same file: http://hope-2000.org/smo/rumpel/unixland.jpg On peoluca: sarge machine i586, with debian stock kernel, it seems working correctly (it loads also files bigger than 100k). peoluca:~# dpkg -l boa debconf libc6 logrotate mime-support +++-=-=-== ii boa 0.94.14rc20-1.2 Lightweight and High Performance WebServer ii debconf 1.4.30.13 Debian configuration management system ii libc6 2.3.5-4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries and Timezone data ii logrotate 3.7-5 Log rotation utility ii mime-support 3.28-1MIME files 'mime.types' 'mailcap', and support p On vladnick: i686, custom kernel, fails: vladnick:~# dpkg -l boa libc6 mime-support logrotate debconf +++-=-=-== ii boa 0.94.14rc20-1.2 Lightweight and High Performance WebServer ii debconf 1.4.58Debian configuration management system ii libc6 2.3.5-7 GNU C Library: Shared libraries and Timezone data ii logrotate 3.7.1-2 Log rotation utility ii mime-support 3.35-1MIME files 'mime.types' 'mailcap', and support p It looks that they are the same version, and that the difference is in its dependencies.. What and where is wrong? Is it a defective library? Or is itsomething in the compilation of the kernel? I hope that this could help to track down the problem. Bug#344653: electricsheep - FTBFS: cannot find -lX11
This one time, at band camp, Alexis Sukrieh said: * Steve Langasek ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) disait : I'm a bit confused, because even if I add libx11-6 in my build-dependencies (which provides libX11.so.6) I still get the error. Er, you need the package that provides *libX11.so*, not libX11.so.6. You should be build-depending on libx11-dev, not on libx11-6: you should *never* need to build-depend on runtime lib packages. My package *did* build-depend on libx11-dev, and I got the FTBS even with that build-dependcy. As I was puzzled, I tried to add libx11-6 in my build dependcy, in order to try. But whatever I did, I get a FTBS in my pbuilder... This patch fixes it here: Section: x11 Priority: optional Maintainer: Alexis Sukrieh [EMAIL PROTECTED] -Build-Depends: debhelper (= 4.0.0), libjpeg62-dev, libexpat1-dev, libpng12-dev, dpatch, libxv-dev +Build-Depends: debhelper (= 4.0.0), libjpeg62-dev, libexpat1-dev, libpng12-dev, dpatch, libxv-dev, libx11-dev, libxext-dev, x-dev, libxt-dev Standards-Version: 3.6.1 Package: electricsheep The addition of libx11-dev, libxext-dev and x-dev are because the package #includes headers from those packages. I only did a simplistic grep test, so it may be over generous in my dependency (for instance, if a chunk of source is not actually built or used, my test would miss that completely). The addition of libxt-dev is for the configure test for X (it looks for X11/Intrinsic.h from the libxt-dev package) and then fills in the autoconf macro X_LIBS=' -L/usr/X11R6/lib'. Without this bit, linking fails. With it, it succeeds. The fact that /usr/X11R6/lib is in /etc/ld.so.conf and the linker still doesn't look there is a bit mystifying (as I thought that's, er, exactly what that file is for) but that's a seperate problem. Bug#328674: Still planning to upload slsc?
Doing some late-night QA work, and noticed that you were planning to upload this in September. It does need an upload badly. Alternatively, you could orphan it or ask for it to be removed (your choice). It's already been kicked out of 'testing' so it won't be in the next release of Debian unless it's fixed up. It should be transitioned to slang2 with the next upload if possible; see http://wiki.debian.org/EtchSlang2upgrade for some information. Since asc depends on the same version of asc-data(=1.16.2.0-2+b1), the new version is not installable. This has persisted for a few days, so it doesn't seem like mirror slowness. Further, when I looked at http://packages.qa.debian.org/asc, I didn't see a new source version. I've concluded that this looks like a binary-only upload of asc gone awry by missing the versioned dependency. Also, the -2+b1 Debian revision appears to have migrated to testing for m68k, but not for any other architecture. Bug#341675: qt-x11-free build fails

It would be nice if somebody fluent with hppa assembly can tell us if fldw -10(,sp),fr23 is a valid instruction or not. Aurelien, fldw is a valid instruction and is used frequently in libgcc_s.so.2: grundler 507objdump -rD /lib/libgcc_s.so.2 | fgrep fldw | fgrep fr23 | wc -l 36 But there's more than a few calls/branches to __umoddi3. grundler 504objdump -rD /lib/libgcc_s.so.2 | fgrep __umoddi3 | wc -l 43 Can you provide more context around the offending insn? 10 lines of asm before and after the SIGILL instruction? And possibly a register dump just before the SIGILL is issued? It would be interesting to know what %SP is. thanks, grant -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
