Bug#354145: Bug#268308: dvd+rw-tools: growisofs prejudiced against sudo

2006-02-25 Thread Andree Leidenfrost
Hi Daniel,

I just stumbled across this bug whilst looking into an issue with the
mondo package that I maintain and writing DVDs under sudo which does not
work because of the situation described in this bug.

I believe that rather than applying a patch as suggested by LaMont, all
that would be required is to specify -DI_KNOW_ALL_ABOUT_SUDO when
compiling. This has been in since version 5.20 according to the
changelog in growisofs.c.

Other than that, it is really a matter of policy, I guess. And it
appears that upstream by providing the above define implicitly
acknowledges that three may be an issue.

Best regards,
Andree

Bug#354414: www.debian.org: Invalid URL in jigdo files used to download Debian Stable DVD ISO

2006-02-25 Thread Ferenczi Viktor
Package: www.debian.org
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I've downloaded jigdo and template files from
http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current/i386/jigdo-dvd/

After jigdo-lite (installed from the jigdo-file package)
started to download files, I got error messages for each
file download like this:

I've checked the URL:

It is a wrong link.

Bug#354145: mindi: Cdrom not detected after cdrom boot

2006-02-25 Thread Andree Leidenfrost
Salut Yann,

Thanks a lot for reporting this issue and for mentioning the workaround
you found!

I can confirm the problem and it's all my fault: When I made the change
in 1.06-2 to get DMA to work on VIA chipsets, I relied on the
ide-generic module to get loaded later, which is wrong as the CD can't
be accessed because of the missing ide driver - catch 22. Silly me!

mindi unfortunately uses a brute force approach to load modules and to
satisfy inter-module dependencies. It does not allow for loading modules
in a particular order. This, however, is exactly what is required to get
DMA working on VIA chipsets: module via82cxxx needs to get loaded before
ide-generic does.

The attached patch init_#354145.diff makes it so that ide-core and
via82cxxx get loaded before the rest of the essential modules. It works
for me and I believe it should not impact things on non-VIA chipset
systems. (mindi_#354145.diff simply puts ide-generic back into
IDE_MODS.)

It would be great if you could apply the two patches, try again and let
me know the outcome. This would confirm that it does work on non-VIA
systems as well - something I can't test myself. (The mindi patch may
not be required as you've already added ide-generic back in.)

Thanks a lot & best regards,
Andree

Bug#354401: Error "chown: `root:UNKNOWN': invalid group" when setting up tex-common

I really don't know. It was previously 82 (in my config.dat backup from
2006-02-22 01:07:52), and now UNKNOWN.

In the past, /etc/group contained:

users:x:82:

(I had this group number because the NIS setup here has another
group for gid 100), but now it contains:

users:x:100:

(it seems that another package has changed it to 100).

No, I didn't do anything.

I didn't have any question concerning the groupname.

This is strange, how did the UNKNOWN came into the tex-common/groupname?
Did you enter it? The default for groupname is users, but when you
select to manage the TeX font cache with debconf, you should have
entered a valid groupname.

Bug#345604: [Fontinst] License of the fontinst documentation

or should I try to contact Ulrik or Taco? And, for that matter, I guess

sources available?

I completely forgot I helped with that talk. The documents were
prepared by Ulrik (I do not have sources and am not an author).

Hi Frank,

I prepared the documents for a presentation at EuroTeX 99 and Taco
assisted with the presentation. Therefore his name was on it as well.

As for licensing, I never bothered to define any specifc license for
the documents. As far as I know, they have been available on CTAN
since fontinst-prerelease-1.914 in November 1999. (I just checked the
CTAN CD 2000, which shows a filedate of Nov 16 1999 for doc/talks.)

As for sources, I may still have them somewhere on my local machine,
but they were never released, partly because the fonts required to
typeset the documents are non-free (Lucida Bright) and partly because
the PDF doucments are the final form intended for consumption.

As for roadmap.eps, the diagram was presumably created by Alan Jeffrey
and has been part of earlier fontinst distributions since 1995.

The orignal source of the EPS may have been created with xfig, since
the archive copy of fontinst-1.504 contains a file roadmap.fig along
with roadmap.eps, which can be found here:

ftp://ftp.tug.org/historic/fonts/utilities/fontinst/fontinst-1.504/doc/

Please let me know, if you need and further statement of clarification
regarding the licensing isseue.

Uuups, where did you got this from?

Do you have teTeX or TeX live installed?

You are running sid, but what is your version of tetex-bin?

Please send me the output of
dpkg -l tetex-bin texlive-base-bin

This is very strange. Did you NOT upgrade tetex to tetex3? In case you
are running still tetex2, then I could explain this, but otherwise that
would be strange.

Best wishes

Package: portreserve
Version: 0.0.0-2
Severity: grave

The init script has a negated test condition that prevents it from
starting:

In the registered_services() function, the second if condition causes
the function to return 1 if /etc/portreserve is non-empty (using the
"-n" test). It should return 1 if /etc/portreserve is empty (using the
"-z" test).

A few other smaller errors: (that don't prevent the program from
running)

PIDFILE=/var/run/$prog.pid, but $prog is not defined. I assume it
should be PIDFILE=/var/run/$NAME.pid.

The running() function doesn't work, because the pid-file never actually
gets created. Of course, this causes the init script to say "ERROR!"
when it tries to start portreserve.

 portreserve - Port reservation program
Closes: 352103
Changes:
 portreserve (0.0.0-3) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Applied patch from Matt Brown <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> :
   * Adjusted debian/copyright to include libslack copyright and license (GPL)
   * Create /etc/portreserve on installation, although it's not handled by
the package scripts (other packages can drop files there).
   [ Matt Brown ]
   * Fixed minor init script bugs (Closes: #352103)
 - Use -z instead of -n to test list of service files
 - Use $NAME instead of the undefined $prog in the pidfile name
   * Make portreserve handle pidfiles using daemon_lock_pidfile and
 fcntl_lock taken from libslack:
 - Check for existance of pidfile on startup, fail if already running
 - Create pidfile on startup
 - Remove pidfile when program exits cleanly
   [ Javier Fernandez-Sanguino ]
   * Enhance init script:
- stale pidfiles are removed (in case we switch runlevels and
all services were portreleased or /var/run/ was not cleaned or
portreserve did not clean up properly on release).
 - Use the exit status of start-stop-daemon to determine if we
succeeded, also, wait a bit before checking the running status
on fast systems the init.d script might trigger a
race condition and think that the daemon has not started yet
   * Make portreserve cleanup the pidfile on SIGINT, SIGTERM, and SIGKILL
   * Make portreserve generate the pidfile even if working on debug mode

The version which was listed as fixing the bug is indeed present in testing
and unstable (rather, a later version is present). But it does seem to be
the case that the bug should be reopened because it was never fixed.

Yes, the prerm script is not correct, but this is a bug that has nothing to
do with the one you are mailing to. I'm uploading new packages right now to
fix that issue, so expect it to be fixed in 1.0-3

The attached patch fixes both of these bugs. To fix bug 347095, it
removes the build-dependency on xlibs-dev. To fix bug 349443, it
removes the X11 subdirectory.

forwarded 352849 http://bugzilla.remotesensing.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1097

After some more investigation, it is clear that this bug is only in
tiff2pdf and not in the actual tiff library. (Other programs that use
libtiff can handle this image fine, including tiff2ps and tiffgt from
the libtiff-tools and libtiff-opengl packages.) It seems unlikely
that it is a security bug, though I can't be 100% sure. In any case,
since it impacts at most the tiff2pdf program, I'm going to go ahead
and downgrade the bug to normal so that the existing libtiff package
can transition to etch. As previously discussed, if, after analysis
from upstream, it does turn out to be a security problem, I'll take
the appropriate action.

I think you should add a dependency to a tetex-bin >= to 3.0

Yes, I had already made the same detection. It will be fixed in the

A new postfix version has been uploaded to unstable, which has as
changelog entry:
* New upstream, fixes various TLS/SASL bugs.

I suggest you try that.

Hi, Emmanuel.

I'm reducing the severity of this bug report as I can't reproduce it. Please,
do further investigation about it and try to provide more info.

On the other hand, Wesnoth uses SDL library to do all the graphics stuff, so
in any case, SDL (or the X server) should be guilty and not Wesnoth itself.

If you want to play Wesnoth in the meanwhile may be you can try the "-w"
option to run it in windowed mode.

Best regards

Bug#354075: util-linux-patch breaks nfs-user-server (fwd)

2006-02-25 Thread Timo Aaltonen

More info. Maybe the dump can be sent directly to the list (or CC'd).

-- Forwarded message --
Date: Sat, 25 Feb 2006 10:39:17 -0500
From: Trond Myklebust <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

The difference between the two is that in case (1) (the "good" case)
we're calling pmap_getmaps() in order to get the entire list of
supported RPC services.
In the second case, we're doing a pmap_getport() call.

The reason for the switch is that someone pointed out to me that some
older portmappers do not support pmap_getmaps().

I doubt this is the reason for the failure, though. The standard Linux
portmapper works fine with both. I suspect, rather, that nfs-user-server
is screwed up w.r.t. some of the other assumptions that we make when we
probe it for tcp support.

Can you get us a full binary tcpdump of what is going on? 'tcpdump -s
9000 -w /tmp/dump' should be fine.

Cheers,
  Trond

This bug was marked fixed and closed four months ago; but the version
which fixes the bug is not in unstable and never made it to testing.
The versions in both testing and unstable remain unusuable; this bug
is about to be archived, even though people keep providing more
information saying "still broken." Hence reopen.

Bug#354379: wesnoth: Wesnoth crash Xorg

2006-02-25 Thread Emmanuel Fleury
Package: wesnoth
Version: 1.1.1-3
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

When starting wesnoth, the display becomes all black and the monitor
display a label "No signal". I cannot do anything but kill the Xserver
(Ctrl+Alt+Backspace).

I managed to run wesnoth from a console
(Ctrl+Alt+F1 and 'export DISPLAY=:0) and I got the following error message:

So, it seems that Wesnoth is asking for a refresh rate which is out of
bound and makes the monitor to block the out-of-range signal.

Hello Lauri,

The upstream SWT sources in CVS have magic scripts that run through
the Java sources and change ints to longs for 64-bit targets. Since
Java doesn't include a preprocessor or any way to extend the type
system, the developer is left with sed as the only way to implement
necessary basic types like intptr_t. The SWT team release a SWT source
archive, from which Debian's SWT package is built. Unfortunately, it
doesn't include these scripts to support 64-bit architectures.

The patch I accepted for bug #324030 fixes the build on 64-bit
systems, but unfortunately doesn't actually fix the problem, as you've
noticed. So, without any other solution, I am dependent on the
upstream authors to release a SWT source package that includes their
64-bit type system.

Cheers,
Shaun

I can not reproduce this problem (on latest etch). For what architecture do
you build it and with what versions of relevant software?

As I could not reproduce the problem I lowered the severity to important
until you have given me more information so it is possible to reproduce.

I compiler should not have a problem to convert between
'uint8_t*' and 'char*' unless there is a serious problem with them.

Bug#354358: libswt-gtk-3.1-java: Unusable on amd64 (ia32-specific sources used)

2006-02-25 Thread Lauri Alanko
Package: libswt-gtk-3.1-java
Version: 3.1-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Azureus hasn't been working on AMD64 Debian out of the box ever, I think.
This seems to be why.

>From a Sun Hotspot 1.5.0_05 error log after a sigsegv when starting
Azureus:

Stack: [0x7f963000,0x7fb63000), sp=0x7fb5ead8, free
space=2030k
Native frames: (J=compiled Java code, j=interpreted, Vv=VM code, C=native code)
C [libc.so.6+0x74ac6]

Java frames: (J=compiled Java code, j=interpreted, Vv=VM code)
j org.eclipse.swt.internal.gtk.OS.memmove([BII)V+0
j org.eclipse.swt.internal.Converter.wcsToMbcs(Ljava/lang/String;[CZ)[B+60

Then, from the sources for swt-gtk-3.1.2 (in os.c):

JNIEXPORT void JNICALL OS_NATIVE(memmove___3BII)
(JNIEnv *env, jclass that, jbyteArray arg0, jint arg1, jint arg2)
{
/* .. */
memmove((void *)lparg0, (const void *)arg1, (size_t)arg2);
/* .. */
}

Obviously treating a 32-bit jint like a 64-bit pointer cannot work.

It seems that when building the debian package, the same sources are
being used for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures although the sources
are arch-specific:

http://dev.eclipse.org/mhonarc/lists/platform-swt-dev/msg04684.html

Indeed, the os.c in swt-3.1.2-gtk-linux-x86_64.zip (from eclipse.org)
contains a different version that uses jlongs instead of jints.

This is essentially the same problem as in bug #324030, of course. It's
claimed to be fixed, but all I see in xpcom.cpp is a casting hack to get
rid of compiler errors, but the precision loss is still there. On a
64-bit platform you _can't_ store a pointer in a jint, it just won't fit
no matter what you do. You have to use jlongs and make sure the java
code calling the native method also uses longs to store pointers. Having
a separate version that uses ints on 32-bit platforms seems like a
dubious performance hack.

Sorry, but nothing in the postinstall is trampling as far as I can tell.
There is adduser and usermod which *may* cause the problem, yet I
couldn't reproduce it on my system. Further there is "test -d ...||mkdir
-p ..." which as far as my testing goes did also not produce what you
tell happened.

Bottom line is, right now I cannot reproduce it. If you have any further
info where this comes from, please feed us more info what is actually
the lines that do need the fixing.

Bug#345100: Not fixed in 1.1.1-1

2006-02-25 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Just wanted to not that libxine version 1.1.1 does not fix this bug.
pornview still segfaults somewhere in libxine.so.

pornview spawns 8 additional threads, each of them doing different tasks
in xine like loading alsa module, loading config and so on. I suspect
there is a race condition somewhere.

When building 'hptalx' on amd64 with gcc-4.0,
I get the following error:

gcc -O2 -Wall -g -DVERSION=\"1.1.0\" -DUPDATE_ROM `gtk-config --cflags` -c
io2.c -o io2.o
io2.c: In function 'send_packet':

io2.c:114: warning: pointer targets in passing argument 1 of 'strlen' differ
insignedness
io2.c:123: error: invalid lvalue in assignment

With the attached patch 'hptalx' can be compiled
on amd64 using gcc-4.0.

The attached patch includes the patch from #26 which was already
necessary for gcc-3.4.

Package: a2ps
Version: 1:4.13b-4
Severity: important

The wrapper script has a rather serious bug. When "a2ps" is invoked with
"-P" option, the script is invoked with "-d" and the argument of "-P". But
the script only transfer the first shell argument - in this case "-d" - to
the "lp" command, which then fails.

I have observed this on a system with "lprng" installed; I am pretty sure that
"cupsys-client" based system will have the same problem.

This patch fixes the problem.

  else
# In case /usr/bin/lp is not available, then fall back /usr/bin/lpr.
/usr/bin/lpr $1

Two incidental comments:

The presence of /usr/bin/lp is not an indicator for "cupsys-client"; that
file is also provided by the "lprng" package.

In a system with no /usr/bin/lp - that would probably be one with the
original "lpr" package install - "-P" will also fail, as the "lpr" program
uses "-d" option for something quite different. In this case, the "-d"
option from "a2ps" will have to be converted back into a "-P" option by
the script.

IMHO /usr/bin/a2ps-lpr-wrapper should read

/usr/bin/lp `echo $* | sed 's/-P/-d/'`

instead of simply using "/usr/bin/lp $*", since lp requires "-d" to select
the printer.

Bug#345604: [Fontinst] License of the fontinst documentation

2006-02-25 Thread Taco Hoekwater

But there's also files in the talks subdirectory for which no source is
currently available. Do you know about the license situation for them,
or should I try to contact Ulrik or Taco? And, for that matter, I guess
roadmap.eps has been created with MetaPost - do you happen to have the
sources available?

I completely forgot I helped with that talk. The documents were
prepared by Ulrik (I do not have sources and am not an author).
