Bug#376612: marked as done (moodle-book now incompatible with moodle package in testing and unstable)
Your message dated Mon, 03 Jul 2006 23:47:10 -0700 with message-id [EMAIL PROTECTED] and subject line Bug#376612: fixed in moodle-book 1.6.0-1 has caused the attached Bug report to be marked as done. This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with. If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith. Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: moodle-book Version: 1.5.4-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable In the past few weeks Isaac Clerencia has package moodle v1.6 in unstable and this week it made it into testing. When I upgraded moodle, I got complaints from the moodle admin system saying that the book module could not be downgraded. It appears to me that the existing moodle-book module should be dependant on moodle v1.5.* (and no later). Moodle v1.5 is no longer in any debian release so this would render moodle-book uninstallable. The solution seems to be to package Petr Skoda's new version available here: http://moodle.org/mod/data/view.php?d=13rid=319 -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.12-1-686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=en_IE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_IE.UTF-8) Versions of packages moodle-book depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.2 Debian configuration management sy ii moodle1.6-1 Course Management System for Onlin moodle-book recommends no packages. ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: moodle-book Source-Version: 1.6.0-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of moodle-book, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: moodle-book_1.6.0-1.diff.gz to pool/main/m/moodle-book/moodle-book_1.6.0-1.diff.gz moodle-book_1.6.0-1.dsc to pool/main/m/moodle-book/moodle-book_1.6.0-1.dsc moodle-book_1.6.0-1_all.deb to pool/main/m/moodle-book/moodle-book_1.6.0-1_all.deb moodle-book_1.6.0.orig.tar.gz to pool/main/m/moodle-book/moodle-book_1.6.0.orig.tar.gz A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. I'll be back on Tuesday evening / wednesday morning will check it then (if I don't forget it, might be a got idea to send me an reminder ;) Unfortunately I face a break with the new GPL'ed ARC4 implementation. The patch for that implementation for shc 3.7 along with some rc4 tests is found at: http://crustytoothpaste.ath.cx/~bmc/files/free/crypto.pax.bz2 I still need to resolve why strcmp(TEXT_chk2, chk2) is put there, which succeeds causing the following break: $ ./shc -f test.csh $ ./test.csh.x $ ./test.csh.x: No such file or directory: shell has changed! I attached a similar patch for shc 3.8.3, but the following occurs with the above test.csh test: $./test.csh.x $./test.csh.x: location has changed! -- pub 4096R/0E4BD0AB 2003-03-18 people.fccf.net/danchev/key pgp.mit.edu fingerprint 1AE7 7C66 0A26 5BFF DF22 5D55 1C57 0C89 0E4B D0AB diff -Naur shc-3.8.3/shc.c shc-3.8.3.dfsg/shc.c --- shc-3.8.3/shc.c 2005-06-28 22:28:52.0 +0300 +++ shc-3.8.3.dfsg/shc.c 2006-07-04 12:35:06.0 +0300 @@ -1,10 +1,27 @@ /* shc.c */ -/** - * This software contains the 'Alleged RC4' source code. - * The original source code was published on the Net by a group of cypherpunks. - * I picked up a modified version from the news. - * The copyright notice does not apply to that code. +/*- + * This software contains a clean-room implementation of Alleged RC4 (ARC4). + * The following copyright notice and license apply only to that code. + * + * Copyright (c) 2006 Brian M. Filipus, did you intend to set a pending tag instead? 1.9.33-0.1.0 does net yet exist in the archive. I'm guessing you guys pick the most appropriate message from some small list of available messages. This message I can't remember seeing before, and wasn't sure how to interpret it. I think it would be nice if someone looked at that list of messages and made sure that they are meaningful and easily understood. I just looked again at all packages at debian.org, and there is nothing other than 1.9.33-0.1 (or older) listed in any archive (including experimental); and looking at incoming.debian.org, there are no apt-proxy or python-twisted* packages listed. Bug#373254: Fixed in NMU of graphviz 2.8-2.1
tag 373254 + fixed Hi, I'm afraid it is _not_ fixed actually. Please have a look at arm build log[1]. According to buildd.d.o[2], mips, mipsel, and hppa fails too but due to register/linkage matters. 1. http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.php?pkg=graphvizver=2.8-2.1arch=armstamp=1151018767file=logas=raw 2. http://buildd.debian.org/build.php?arch=pkg=graphviz Therefore I guess that this BR should be re-opened. Bug#354614: foomatic-gui: segfaults when invoked
This is a followup for Debian bug http://bugs.debian.org/354614. Actually, I just noticed that you used an alien version of python-gnome2-extras during the single day where it was available: python-gnome2-extras 2.12.1-2.1 is not supported by our packaging, please upgrade or downgrade, but don't use this version. I'm tempted to close this bug now, but please confirm it is fixed by avoiding this particular version. Thanks, -- Loïc Minier [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#376426: libnss-ldap: Can't login even as local user
Just wanted to put in some lines about this... I've successfully installed 'this' package (actually a recompile for my semi-woody) and it works 'just fine'. I run only IPv4, my nsswitch.conf say 'files ldap', not 'compat ldap'. Oh, and as said, it's on a semi-woody (all LDAPv3 stuff, Cyrus SASL, MIT Kerberos V, OpenAFS 1.4, OpenLDAP 2.2, lib{nss,pam}-{ldap,krb,openafs} etc) come from sid/testing, all other packages are from woody. The only change to the package to get it compiling on my semi-woody was to lower the build depends on debhelper (from 4.1.13 to 4.0.2). Although this won't help much for those running sid/testing with this package, I CAN say that there's nothing wrong with the _software_ in the package... That not saying there isn't something wrong with the _package_ (linking problems, compile problems etc?)... -- Ortega Ft. Bug#354614: foomatic-gui: segfaults when invoked
severity 354614 important tags 354614 + unreproducible moreinfo retiel 354614 foomatic-gui: segfaults when invoked stop Hi, This is a followup for Debian bug http://bugs.debian.org/354614. I tried reproducing this bug as follows: - pbuilder login - install foomatic-gui - install xvfb-run + xfonts-base - run foomatic-gui in a Xvfb This worked (well it didn't crash). I'm open to fixing not strong enough dependencies across distributions, but I'm downgrading the severity for now because: - I can't reproduce the problem with the latest versions in unstable - this part of the conversation suggest that even with the latest versions you have the bug and I don't: Ramakrishnan wrote: I installed python-gnome2 version 2.12.3-2 and am still having the problem. Ramakrishnan wrote: Chris wrote: Did you also install the updated python2.3-gnome2 and python2.3-gnome2-extras packages? Yes. Please clarify: 1) whether the problem happens with an up-to-date unstable 2) the highest versions of the packages which I can install to reproduce the problem and which dependency you think is broken I hope I don't sound like I don't give a shit, but I simply can't deal with this problem unless I understand it, so please help me understand it. On a related subject, I just noticed some dependencies were missing, but they are not related to the versions you mention. In particular, we decided to add the following dependencies: 1) let python-gnome2 depend on python-gnome2-extras (instead of a simple Recommends) and file bugs against apps that need to update their deps -- this is uploaded 2) let python-gnome2-extras depend on python-gnome2-desktop and file bugs against apps that need to update their deps -- this will be uploaded RSN 3) add conflicts to ensure the new packages split from the old packages are not installed at the same time as the old packages -- this is incomplete Bye, -- Loïc Minier [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hello, The fix for DSA-1006-1 on wzdftpd broke dependencies as explained in bug report #372531. We would like to see this bug fixed in the next stable point-release. Would it be possible to the security team to fix this package or maybe to the maintainer to upload a new and fixed version of its package? Please, keep us in touch, since we plan to point-release ASAP. Cheers, -- Julien Danjou .''`. Bug#374204: please try sim-0.9.4

Please upgrade to just-uploaded sim 0.9.4 and retest - if problem persist, then please send me more information regarding your configuration. On the first start the new version (0.9.4) work fine. By the 2nd start it crashed again. After I removed the plugin.conf in the Profile Directory it started again once. The second time crashed. Bug#375677: Deferred.errback() broken?
Hello, I've had the same problem with apt-proxy as described above. I'm using unstable with unmodified packages. I'm not familiar with twisted, but I did some digging and found that the Deferred.errback() method claims to allow one to send no argument (in which case the fail argument defaults to None). However, if no exception is currently being processed, this causes another exception to be thrown in the failure.Failure() constructor. I added a small patch to defer.py in the twisted library which appears to work around the problem (see attached). However, when using the system with this patch, my package lists' signatures appear to be broken in some way. This may not be a proper fix, but hopefully it will illuminate the problem for someone more familiar with twisted. thanks, tim --- defer.py.orig 2006-07-04 12:00:49.0 -0400 +++ defer.py2006-07-04 12:01:17.0 -0400 @@ -245,6 +245,9 @@ Passing a string as `fail' is deprecated, and will be punished with a warning message. +if fail == None: +fail = failure.DefaultException(None) + if not isinstance(fail, failure.Failure): fail = failure.Failure(fail)

Bug#375677: defer.py.patch + rm -r /var/cache/apt-proxy/.apt-proxy is work-around
Hello, I can also confirm that after applying the patch AND removing the directory Jose mentioned, things seem to work. After removing that directory, I no longer get warnings about failed signatures. I have a feeling this isn't a permanent fix though... The code that was failing previously had to do with cache aging, and deleting that directory probably just causes the failure condition to no longer be triggered. I have no idea how this would affect signatures... Finally, the patch may not be a correct addition. Perhaps it is implicit that an exception should be getting processed when this is called. If it is a correct patch, it of course should be applied to the python-twisted-core package. tim -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? As I understand it this is an FTP master problem: since the implementation of NEW handling for p-u (around the time of the Sarge r2 release) there have been no syncs of any security updates from p-u to unstable/testing for any package. Either the version in proposed-updates should be added to unstable too, or a new version uploaded. Bug#376434:
severity 376434 important merge 376434 179887 quit It's not data loss in evolution if this happens on a remote server (IMAP for example). It's without doubt an ugly bug if it happens with the local mailboxes, but I would rather call it loss of metadata than a full blown data loss. No point trying to make it look insignificant, I want this fixed too! For that to happen, we need as much information as possible. Pri 1 is to be able to consistently reproduce the bug. Pri 2 is to get a copy of the summary files before and after the incident. It would also be interesting to know as much as possible about package versions, data files in your evo installation and the environment it is working in (which account types do you have, what servers does it interact with) Thanks, Øystein Gisnås signature.asc Description: Dette er en digitalt signert meldingsdel

Bug#376777: apt-utils: apt-ftparchive fails to generate Contents files
Package: apt-utils Version: 0.6.44.2 Severity: serious Tags: help (Backported) apt-ftparchive on ftp-master currently fails to generate Contents files. I've reproduced this locally on sid with vanilla apt-utils and a trivial apt.conf file. | Done Packages, Starting contents. | unstable/Contents-i386: | E: Sub-process decompressor exited unexpectedly | E: Error processing contents unstable/Contents-i386 | Done. 588MB in 335 archives. Took 1m49s Michael's looked into this today but was unable to find the problem and unfortunately he's now away for a while. (Thus the 'help' tag) strace shows that one of the gzip -d processes is throwing SIGPIPE but nothing else particularly useful. I've put one up at http://people.debian.org/~troup/misc/strace.txt anyway. Interestingly while trying to reproduce this I discovered that if I limited the number of debs I was feeding apt-ftparchive, I could make the problem go away. 63 or less files worked, = 64 doesn't. I've attached the local apt.conf too (but it's obviously not useful unmodified). -- James Dir { ArchiveDir /home/james/scratch/apt/; OverrideDir /home/james/scratch/apt/; CacheDir /home/james/scratch/apt/; }; Default { Packages::Compress gzip; Contents::Compress gzip; } tree unstable { FileList /home/james/scratch/apt/filelist; Sections main; Architectures i386; BinOverride override; };

Bug#362482: The road ahead on this bug
severity 362482 important quit I'm downgrading the severity because so few users experience it, so it's not really an etch blocker. That doesn't mean we don't want to see this fixed. As I can read from the buzilla bug comments, a fix for one of the problems has been commited. Scott, do you want me to create packages with the fix integrated? I can make you 2.7.x packages, for example 2.7.4 when they're ready so you can see what is fixed by that commit. It would also be nice to have a clearer overview of what is the most urgent problems right now. In addition, do you have a chance to create new, clean accounts and add feature after feature to try to detect when the problems start to appear? Alternatively, it would be nice if you somehow could provide shell access to a box with such a problem on to help analyze the problem. Thanks, Øystein signature.asc Description: Dette er en digitalt signert meldingsdel

It seems your package contains non-free RFC/I-Ds: usr/share/xemacs21/xemacs-packages/etc/zenirc/RFC1459 editors/xemacs21-basesupport The license on I-Ds is not DFSG-free, see: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=199810 http://release.debian.org/removing-non-free-documentation I believe the options are: 1) Remove the file from the package (which may include re-packaging the source code). 2) Move the files to a non-free package (which may also include re-packaging the source code). If you disagree with this, because this bug is reported for several packages at once, it seems better to discuss this on debian-legal, in this thread: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.debian.devel.legal/25993 The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-dfsg. Bug#374477: on lilo and makedev
Sorry for the delay, exams time! :) On 7/3/06, Bdale Garbee [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Is bug #210377 related? It's been a while, but I think I never felt that discussion reached a concensus on what makedev should do differently, if anything, and so I haven't acted on it yet. I've been investigating a little, and this is the situation, as I see it: - lilo doesn't use makedev, creates 128 block devices with major 43 in /dev/nbd%d - makedev/sid (shell version), creates 8 block devices with major 43 in /dev/nb%d - makedev/experimental (C version), creates 128 block devices with major 43 in /dev/nb%d AND, /usr/share/doc/linux-doc-2.6.15/Documentation/devices.txt.gz says clearly: 43 block Network block devices 0 = /dev/nb0 First network block device 1 = /dev/nb1 Second network block device So, I think the sane thing would be to settle on the official registry way, which is using nbX without partitions. People using enbd can create devices with different names (enb%c%d?), and it could even be incorporated in makedev.d/enbd from the enbd package; and this should not make any problem. Of course, lilo has no excuse to ignore makedev :) The problem may be is that one's tempted to try MAKEDEV nbd, which doesn't work, and you may think that MAKEDEV has no nbd support. It is worth mentioning that the mknod in lilo.postinst spawns from #235805 -- Martín Ferrari
